Another really good fish alternative for nigiri/sushi is tomato! if you marinate it in soy sauce, kelp powder and other spices of choice it really gives you the texture of fish, and also a bit of the flavor! :) I've been using that a lot for my poké bowls
@CheapLazyVegan3 жыл бұрын
totally agree!!! we use tomato as "tuna" in our poke bowls that we sell at our cafe - great minds think alike!

DO you remove the skin?
@monemori3 жыл бұрын
@@andreavanpelt3599 I do, personally. You can boil the tomatoes with a small incision for like 1 minute and then cool them, and it will peel off easily. I think Rose has a video on tomato tuna sushi on this channel :)

A recent discovery I found was to add flax oil to add that fishy fatty flavour/texture. Because flax oil has omega 3s like salmon, it really imitates the mouth feel of fish and adds a slightly fishy flavour (more subtle than seaweed). Life changing!
@kassidybrown40543 жыл бұрын
Some vegan DHA/omega 3 supplements are made with algae oil (fish’s original source for that fatty acid) which has a similar flavor. I recommend Vivolife because it also has lemon flavoring added which lends well to the oceanic flavor the supplement can have.

Hi Rose, I love your channel. I'm hispanic and my family has been making ceviche forever. Since going vegan we have made it with hearts of palm and soy. Ceviche means cooked in lemon juice so, it should be juicy. We put lemon juice, lime juice, bloody mary V8, and seasoning. You should try it, it's delicious 🤤

1:24 THIS IS BRILLIANT Honestly, I am 100% going to try it out as I love roasted peppers, I am a big fan of sushi and I can totally feel how this makes for a great substitute texture and flavour-wise! I have to put these in some maki rolls and serve them to my fam (as this is their fave type). Thank you from the bottom of my hear for this amazing idea! Also, if you want to make the pepper-peeling proces easier, put them in a bowl just after getting them out of the oven and cover the bowl with a big plate (you know, not to use the plastic wrap) so that they steam a bit - it helps to get the skin off! Oh, and I am wondering: maybe it would be worth marinating the roasted peppers in some fishy-tasting broth with some kombu/nori/wakame? I will have to try it out :D

I wrongly assumed for a long time that mushrooms were high in protein because they are substituted for beef in so many recipes. I'm glad you talk about protein so much. I feel like I have known a lot of vegans who held the position that you don't actually need very much protein in your diet, and I feel like this idea has been perpetuated in the vegan community for a long time; so it's nice to see people reiterating that you do need protein to have a well-rounded diet and feel sated after a meal
