Yes. To all of this. Especially rules 1-2. It really bothers me when people say you "can't" wear a shimmer in the crease. I do it all the time! And the no shimmers after a certain age. I work in a bank and had an 80 year old customer who always wore a shimmer on her lid and it looked GORGEOUS! Never over done, always tasteful, looked better than mine sometimes, ha! I appreciate this video so, so much! Thank you for having a different opinion than others and telling us it's ok and makeup has no rules!

I usually wear the rose and berries for my green eyes, but some days when I'm having issues with sensitive eyes and allergies, those colors can make me look stoned. So, green eye makeup is a better alternative.

Thank you!!! I just recently noticed (to my big surprise) that shimmer in the crease and even over the crease does NOT accentuate my agedness. I like the way it looks! I don't care if my wrinkles show more, it might still look nice, somehow softer, more lively or something.

OMG! I finally stepped outside my comfort zone and put a shimmer in my crease. I wanted to use my Colourpop It’s my pleasure palette and wanted to use that dark royal purple shimmer. I don’t like the look of a dark lid so I decided to take a bold step and put it into my outer corner and then blend it into my crease. OMG 💜💜💜 it turned out so great.

I so agree with this! I used to only wear shimmers and I kept hearing people say I need a palette with more mattes and don’t put shimmers in your crease and I had the naked 2 palette well it didn’t give me much matte options and I honestly loved shimmers and didn’t get the hype with just matte shadows in crease. Now I like matte shadows but I do find formulas that honestly can emphasize dryness and texture even more than shimmer shadows! Also I disagree too about wearing same color eyeshadow as your eye color. My eye color is hazel so when I wear green eyeshadow I feel like it emphasizes the green in my eyes more so than any other eyeshadow along with purple- a lot of brown shadows make my eye color look blah.

A lot of high end makeup commercials (Charlotte Tillbury; Tom Ford, etc), their models have shimmer on the crease, and it looks beautiful. Like you said, very editorial/magazine like:). "Rule" to break: No bold lip if you are wearing a bold or bold-ish look... Hmm, I am so guilty of this! I love nude lips, but sometimes you just have to go bold all around! LOL! I am almost 49, and I break ALL the "over 40" rules! LOL!
@akirarosenthal5 жыл бұрын
1. Totally agree, with Asian monolids, the shimmer in the crease is the only way to get colour to appear as all the rest of the colours roll away into your eye. 2. I haven't set my face with powder in ages. With an excellent foundation (not matte), it was sufficient for the skinlike effect and still last the whole day; the foundation melds with my skin. 3. Can't comment since I'm in my 20's. 4. In the words of Samantha Ravandahl, brown poopy eyes works with every single colour. 5. Sometimes when I wake up late, a slap of foundation and brows (I use a dark brown/ grey colour, so it can be used for contour as well) is sufficient.

Yes to all the things! 🙌 And in regards to your last point, Sam from Pixiwoo made a video a while back about how sometimes makeup artistry is more about what you choose *not* to apply than what you choose to apply. Eliminating certain steps can make the look all the more impactful. i.e strong winged liner with no eyeshadow or a red lip with minimal face and eyes. It's definitely something I try to keep in mind when doing my makeup now. 😊

I also agree with doing every step everyday is pretty unnecessary. In the summer I don't really wear highlight because I get sweaty so I find it is a bit much.

I love shimmer in my crease! Matte shadows just don't look as good on me. I prefer a shimmery look on my eyes. & I'm 35, I'll wear what I want! Lol I totally agree about setting a cream with a powder. I'll go over BB cream with a light dusting of powder to keep it actually on my face since I live in South GA where the humidity is incredibly intense. I wear a lot of cream products, though, because I have dry skin, & I definitely don't set them.

Just yesterday I wore a shimmer in my crease and I do my makeup steps based on what I feel like that day... sometimes it's just a bb cream and powder with bronzer, blush highlight... sometimes it's full on foundation with the other face steps. Sometimes I just spot conceal.. it all depends on my mood. I generally do the blush bronzer highlight... it's just the base that I tend to change up.

"Still not feeling it" after I try to refresh my look (by switching to an updo, for example) is a way I think we all spend too much time being. You look GORGEOUS! I get frustrated sometimes when my hair doesn't look like I imagine that it should; then I "fix" it and regret that because it looks 'too perfect'. It's probably something like you were saying, that we want what we don't have. I often recognize that I consider myself ugly based on judgments I don't apply to other people (like, "ugh, this is a bad picture of me because my bangs are unevenly separated" (already--what?!) and then, "oh, wow, this picture of Taylor Swift (where her bangs look amazing but if they were mine I wouldn't think so) is so beautiful and I LOVE how cared for but care free her hair is") As a related aside, I was born in 1985 and really appreciate how stunningly '90s you look here - almost a part two of your '90s supermodel video.

i agreeeee! also when it comes to green and blue eyes, there are some issues. 1. if you have blue eyes and light skin, it can be difficult to add demension to make the (blue) eyeshadow define 2. for green eyes, there like red, yellow greens and blue grreens. yellow greens will make green eyes more green but blue green with pull the yellow out and make the eye more blue. i have green eyes and avoid blue unless im feeling a challenge- ialso avoid copper and yellow.

1- your hair is always ON POINT whether you liked it or not 😍😋 2- Rules Made To Be Broken " Yes Ma'am " 3- Listening to these rules made me think in two opposite thoughts !!: 1- Matte & shimmer are for sculpting & contouring the eyes "like an enhancing process" 2- The same concept but misunderstood by applying it as " a correction / perfecting process" for perfect version of ourselves! And now I just realized Makeup isn't treated like an ART & FUN ! I'm not generalizing (that's a hard word to type lmao 😂😂) But we can see with our own eyes what's happening with Appling makeup !

The "no shimmer in the crease" rule is one that I personally follow. I have a fleshy lid area and slightly hooded eyes, and need the definition of mattes. I'm not lucky enough to have beautiful, prominent brow bones and a naturally well-defined crease. But yeah, the only "rule" of makeup should be "do what makes you happy".
