I too swapped from MK. I’ve been wanting to get into SF for a long time and this guide was spot on and to the point. The frame traps section alone really helped. Too bad I still suck, but I’ll get there!

can someone confirm if the medium combo at 0:53 still works? I can do the combo up until the spinning kick. please help!

It works just not when you are right in their face, it requires some spacing as shown in video. I don't suggest this combo, instead go for mk xx hk xx qcb hk/dp hp.

Excellent guide. When and where would frame traps be useful??
@FlightlessEsports3 жыл бұрын
Frame traps, or often called block strings, are used on offensive when you want to pressure your opponent. A frame trap means if they press a button of a certain strength inbetween it, they will get hit and you can go into a combo. Can be tricky but most characters have a light > medium frame trap, and when the medium hits you go into a combo.

I can’t do LK to DP HP to save the life of me 🙃 granted I’m new to SF but I’m having so much trouble . Any tips?
@FlightlessEsports3 жыл бұрын
Try holding forwards when pressing LK, then move your stick or dpad to down forwards then back to forwards. This is a shortcut, but will get you a feel for how fast you needed to be. Remember when cancelling from light moves you need to be really fast! You'll get there, keep at it.

I can't get any of the frame traps starting with LP or cr.LP into Standing MP the dummy always gets a jab in between, how are they supposed to work?
@FlightlessEsports4 жыл бұрын
So there is a 4 frame gap between lp/crlp and crmp, and a 5 frame gap between lp/crlp and mp. Ken needs to abuse gaps and strings in his game plan, and you will normally start your frame trap with crmp into a light, or go light to light button for tighter frame traps.
@justterrell9564 жыл бұрын
Sounds like your pressing buttons too slow. If your plus there is no way the dummy should beat you out on the jab. Or your using the wrong moves

Great video but wat do some of the commands mean? Like QCF and DP
@FlightlessEsports4 жыл бұрын
QCF stands for quarter circle forwards. You start from down input and rotate to forwards input, input down>down forwards>forwards. QCB stands for quarter circle back which is the same starting point of down, but you end up with a back input rather than forwards. DP stands for dragon punch. Start at Forwards, move to down and rotate to down forwards. This website will explain the notations visually. wiki.shoryuken.com/How_To_Perform_Fighting_Game_Motions You will see these notations like QCF, HCB(Half circle back), DP and more in all fighting games.

This is sick! but Im having trouble with the Light combos, the link from lights to Hdp seems impossible to me :,/
@FlightlessEsports3 жыл бұрын
Light combos are some of the hardest in the game to be consistent at, and unfortunately it does take a bit of practice. But once you can get it down consistently it applies across every character in the game, especially with a dragon punch input! Eventually you won't need to tense up to get the combos, and you will have the muscle memory do it! Good luck!

@@FlightlessEsports thanks so much for the support. It really helps a lot. I'll keep practicing!

what does cr and lp mean
@FlightlessEsports2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sebastian, cr stands for crouching and lp stands for light punch. You can see notations early on in the video.

Why use M DP instead of H DP for anti airs?
@FlightlessEsports3 жыл бұрын
M DP is Invincible to airborne strike attacks on frame 1 to frame 7, while HP DP is strike and projectile invincible on frames 3-6. This means as soon as the input for M DP is registered, you are invincible to air attacks and for double the amount of time HP DP is. This is the same for most characters with a DP.

Good luck getting these in matches all my opponents just block everything with ken unless i get them in a corner he does not have alot of mixups.
@feri7mble4 жыл бұрын
I guess you came from DBFZ or something like that? No character in Street Fighter has true high-low mix-ups. Mixing up your offense is all about throws in these games. You have to make them think you're going to throw them to get a hit. Also making them think they can interrupt your blockstring and catching a walk back with a low are things you should think about.
@brandonrice11244 жыл бұрын
@@feri7mble I switched to akuma he has true mixups with the flip i feel like every character needs a kit like this i was a 56% player with ken now i am a 72% player with akuma to many people know kens attacks.

@jacksonbradley68424 жыл бұрын
@@mikeperes2828 Alright so I think the closest thing to Shroryureppa in SFV is Ken's EX Dragon Punch, his V trigger 2 is Shinryuken and the more you mash it the more hits come out. His Critical art Guren Enjinkyaku can often be hard to time precisely to hit especially after V trigger 2 combos. Ken also doesn't have a parry in SFV :(
I'm here because i'm too much of a scrub to play other characters lol

How to play Ken. SHORYUKEN
@THEVIGILANTEHD4 жыл бұрын
Hes a little one you forgot. In the corner: HK (CRUSH COUNTER) - VT1 - LP SHORYUKEN - LP SHORYUKEN - HP SHORYUKEN Massive damage and massive style points. Also HK is a really effective, and easy, meaty after you foward throw someone in the corner. Just be carefull with people with long 4f lks like Sakura.
@FlightlessEsports4 жыл бұрын
Yeah this is a good combo, quite specific but does plenty of damage just felt like it was additional and not too common.
@THEVIGILANTEHD4 жыл бұрын
@@FlightlessEsports Thought so too. But you'd be surprised how many CC HK you can land after you throw someone in the corner. 100x multiplier if below gold.
@powerk213 жыл бұрын
Does it work with HP (Crush counter)
@THEVIGILANTEHD3 жыл бұрын
@@powerk21 No, only HK or cr.HP. They have to be airborne for it to juggle 3 times. If you hit CC s.HP in the corner with VT1 active your best combo is probably s.HP (CC) - VS1 - b.MPxHP (Chin Buster) - VS1 (HOLD) - l.DP - h.DP If you don't have VT1 active its the same, just skip the l.DP and go for the h.DP only. Those are the staples. There are more advanced ones like (in VT1) s.HP (CC) - EX.FB - l.DP - h.DP but those are way harder to hit confirm.
