Today we have Coach Ashley and Coach Ashley teaming up for a 5 minute PLANK Workout! Find a little room, get your stability ball and you're ready to go!
The plank is a foundational core strength training, offering benefits that extend beyond just sculpting a six-pack. Primarily targeting the abdominal muscles, including the rectus abdominis and transverse abdominis, planks also engage the back, shoulders, and hips. This comprehensive engagement leads to improved overall core stability, a crucial element in maintaining a healthy spine.
A strong core serves as the body's central support system, enhancing posture and balance while reducing the risk of back pain. As the plank requires isometric contraction - where muscles are engaged without movement - it not only strengthens the superficial muscles visible on the surface but also works on deeper muscle layers that support the spine. This dual-action approach provides a solid foundation for spinal alignment and reduces the strain on the lower back.
A strengthened core by regular plank exercises, acts as a natural corset, supporting the spine and mitigating the impact of daily activities on the lower back. I gave this a thumbs up. BUT was NOT giving it thumbs up when I first did it! I've done this 8-10 times in the last 2 weeks. Today was the easiest. She's right "you can do anything for 5 minutes".
