I wish more people understood straight naturals. I ended up relaxing after being told I was “heat damaging” and actually my hair was better and healthier when straight natural! Now I’m trying to work my way back! Your hair is beautiful!

Thank you so much. And yes many people only focus on the heat damage part which in many cases isn’t really heat damage, I’ve had better results overall by being a straight natural

I love being a straight natural!!! My hair routine is shorter and I am retaining so much more length ❤

@bless_up7624 i haven’t lost my curl pattern. I wore it straight all of 2023. Just did a wash n go last week and it looked the same as before I used heat. I flat ironed once a month, sometimes twice a month on 390 degrees with one pass. I also do my blowouts with a Revair dryer not a regular blow dryer. This protected my curl pattern I would never ever get a silk press at a salon. In the summer I just wear a headband if my edges sweat.

@bless_up7624 you won’t lose your curl pattern! I think my other comment disappeared. I flat ironed monthly all of 2023 and now I’m back doing wash n gos to give my hair a vacation from heat. But my curl pattern didn’t change. One pass with the flat iron on 390. A GOOD flat iron like Paul Mitchell. Good heat protection. You only need one. I use the primer from bumble and bumble. I also own a revair which gives me damage free blowouts.

I find that it’s helpful to reframe how you think about things. Having your natural get a little big and have volume when it is humid is benefit. I can tell you how many wyte women have come up to me and complimented my natural hair and said that they wish that their hair had the type of volume that my hair did. They had to use hairspray and a round brush, blow dryer and volumizing products to get their hair to have more body and not be flat and stringy looking.

I don't know if it's considered still 'straight natural' or not, nor do I care. I just know that I recently did an at-home keratin treatment on my type 4, utterly NOT heat trained hair, and finally got something looking like a straight look. My coils are still definitely there when I wash my hair, just about 25% looser, which is the difference I needed for definition without heat and actual straight hair with heat.

I wish people would have never made natural hair so complex. I grew up with mostly natural hair (I was texlaxed for a short while as a child) and even the majority of childhood being natural, I was what people now call a “straight natural” my mama took me to get my hair straightened every 2-3 weeks, and in between that time my hair would either be braided, twisted, or lightly combed or brushed out. I don’t like how something so simply became so complicated over time, not to mention people literally trying to vindicate others over what they do to their own hair. It’s hair-it’s going to grow, have fun with it, enjoy the frizz, enjoy the body, and experiment if you like !

This video was really informative. I've been struggling with my natural hair & I decided that I'm no longer wearing it in it's curly state. I have multiple curl patterns anyway, especially in the front & nape it's like a 3c curl & the rest of my hair is 4a. This is why my relaxed hair suffered bc my hair didn't process all the same which led to breakage & shedding. I attempted straight hair natural but my curls in the front & nape became looser. I was worried about it & cut it off last year. Fast forward to now & I got my silk press & trim & same problem happened. She used heat protectant & everything. My stylist said that area is just gonna grow in & perform that way bc the texture is just loose & that just bc u lost ur curl pattern doesn't mean it's damaged. I tried wearing wash & goes but it looks so bad bc of my multiple hair textures & looks messy. The solution would be a curly cut but they cut the hair so uneven. So I'm back at square 1. It seems to be that I need to find a style that makes my hair uniform. I don't believe I will become a straight hair natural bc straight hairstyles aren't compatible with my lifestyle so I bought a curling wand & will just pretty much do all the steps a straight natural would do but instead of flat ironing I will wand curl my hair with a hot spray to set it. It's pretty much the same concept. I got some K-18 to attempt to nurse my lil front piece back to health & stay heat free until my next silk press in January BUT it's looking like a round brush blowout & curling wand will be my signature style. I'm gonna subscribe bc I need to know which products to use.

I can totally relate. I’m going to go back to straight natural . I love my curls but the different texture curls drive me crazy sometimes. However I don’t like my hair to be bone straight. I love my hair full and I would roller set it and it looks beautiful with my hair getting almost to bra strap

I'm currently transitioning back to natural. I'm 5 months in. When I made the decision to go back, I knew I wanted to be a straight natural like when I was a little getting my hair pressed. The last time I was natural I didn't have a plan and it was just too thick and too much for me to handle, so I relaxed it. This time I have my plan and ready for this journey. Thank you for this video it helps reassure my decision ❤

Your hair looks really strong and beautiful. I enjoyed being a ''straight natural'' for off and on without heat. I would just put my hair in a military bun after washing it and then style it and wait for it to dry and then brush it out and use oils and stuff. But my hair gets sooooooooo dry, I guess because it is high porosity or something. But being in the military weakened the front/edges of my hair I think and curly hairstyles always come with soooo much shedding and breakage no matter what. This is what I want to do once or if my hair ever heals from the constant military styling. Your hair is sooooo nice!

I want to be a straight natural. I was tempted to relax, but I'm going to blowdry every wash day. I'll flat iron every other wash day, or whenever 🎉

I'm still on the journey. I would flatiron one wash, then blowdry only the next wash- as I had weekly wash days. I plan to try to silkpress only this month and wait 2 weeks to wash. The journey continues. I plan on incorporating more bond building and protein treatments .

How often do you put heat in your hair? My silk press only last a day! I don’t think my hair is used to heat. I’m so lost 😂
@ItsJustJojo1119 ай бұрын
Usually once or twice or month as far as fully straightening it with a flat iron but in between washes I do use the flat iron sometimes to touch it up, hope this helps ! ❤️

Hi JoJo…quick question ..how do you keep your hair moisturised during each wash & straighten? I have a good deep conditioner routine but not sure if I’m supposed to be doing more? I just wash my hair and deep condition when it starts to look oily/dry/reverting
@ItsJustJojo111 Жыл бұрын
I just add more oils and moisturizers between washes as well, I just kinda observe when it gets dry and I will add more as I see fit, & thanks for watching! ❤️❤️❤️

I feel like heat training is a myth. I have been a straightened natural for over 2 years since the last of relaxer was cut off. My past shoulder length 3c/4a hair shrinks up to my ears when wet. How is this supposed heat training state achieved? Whats your leave in for blowing out to stretch and flat ironing?

Is there any difference between using a flat iron or hot comb? Are any more damaging then the other?....do salons even use hot combs anymore😂

I’m not sure 🤔 honestly I only use flat irons at the moment

I use both. I do my blowout then hot comb my roots before my silk press.

Oh sweetie don’t use a flat iron in between your wash - just Use a circular blow dryer and style with pin curls or bendable rollers. Don’t damage your hair - too much heat -

Hmm I would suggest maybe using more oils and serums when you flat iron but not too much to wear it makes it stringy if that makes sense

Or you could have build up. Try clarifying before straightening. Joico clarifying shampoo is excellent without drying the hair out. Follow up with a moisturizing shampoo and a deep conditioner.
