How about, not everyone goes camping to party, I’ve seen more of that cause issues than any other, this idea of “I’m camping, I’m going to blast the bass, hoot and holler until the wee hours of the morning” there are people there to get away, get some quiet, try to relax. Maybe they need to hit the road early for that long drive home. Everyone paid money to be there, you didn’t pay more than others did. This entire video gets down to, have respect for others.

As a full timer, my wife and I ALWAYS leave our site cleaner than we found it. The last part of leaving a camp site is to walk the site. 1. You make sure you did not accidentally leave that water pressure regulator behind. 2. It is just plain nice to leave NO trash behind for the next person to worry about, let alone in the fire pit.

We camped very weekend when I was a kid. My dad’s rule was that I had to police the campsite and the goal was to always leave it cleaner than we found it, even if it was one little piece of paper or bottle cap that wasn’t ours. I still follow that policy & am trying to teach it to my grandkids.

Another one I would add to this list is turn your lights off at night. I don't want to see your trailer lite up like a damn Christmas tree all night. If your going in for the night there is no sense in leaving all you exterior lights on. Some of the lights on these newer trailers are very bright.

All of these are reasons why my wife and I have the same conversation every camping season: do we want to keep doing this? We usually conclude it's about 52/48 keep the camper and keep hoping for the best. Some people just suck.

Great video Josh, well done. This is why so many want to boondock and get away from that 10%. I think people are so scared of other people, because so many are able to go from 1 to 100 on the rage scale, they are afraid to say something or tell others when they are doing these things.

Just got back from a 2 week trip and there were only 2 issues, but it happened at every Natl. Park campground. 1. Yapping dogs and 2. Running generators all day long.

I’ve noticed that generator users are very mindful to position their generator to minimize how much they hear it. But, apparently not even a remote thought of how the position of their generator affects the noise levels for others. I think it should be a flat out immediate eviction rule for generator use between sunset and sunrise. If someone is such a consumption hog that they can’t go 8ish hours on batteries then they don’t belong in a campground. Go to an RV Park(ing lot) where you can more easily avoid the natural world that you apparently don’t like.

Awesome video. Something that I always do and have instilled with my kids is that the site is always cleaner when you leave that when you arrive. Picking up some trash even if only a beer cap or a twist tie ( the beer cap could leave a nasty mark is you are bare foot) will make the camping experience better for the next person. We always do a final check of the site as a family before we leave

Your 'go slow' tip hit home for me. Early on, I came into a camp ground way to fast. Someone waved angrily at us, and when I looked in the mirror there was a huge cloud of dust behind us. I felt terrible! I now try to remind myself that I'm not on the highway any more, slow down!

I always take a camp shovel with me and just plan to clean out the fire pit and cigarette buts around my campsite as just part of normal set up. Go into it with that mindset and be pleasantly surprised if you I don't have to. Great tips/rules here. Thanks Nerd!

We had to deal with this one at our last campaign experience: Take your wind chimes down when there is a storm outside. This is close to the "don't blast your music," level of public politeness.

I totally agree with all your points but especially about dogs. We have two dogs that go with us everywhere. We keep them on our site and when they are on our site outside they are on a tether. When we walk them, they are on a leash. Regarding barking, one of our dogs can bark a lot if they encounter a dog they don’t like. Our solution was really simple, he now wears a bark collar. Problem solved. Irresponsible dog owners make it difficult for the 99% of responsible dog owners!

One point of contention I have is when people want to leave early in the morning, they don't prepare the night before. What I mean is, don't try to hook up your truck at 4 in the morning, don't bang your door shut either from your truck or RV, don't start gathering things up that morning, all the while talking loud or yelling to each other because you can't see what's going on or don't know what has been done because you can't see and are frustrated, don't wave your flashlight around or turn your truck headlights on so you can see all the while shining then into someone else's camp sight. There is nothing that makes me more grumpy when I'm camping than getting woke up early in the morning listening to someone packing up, running their diesel truck and waving their lights around. Most of these things need to be done the night before including hooking up to your RV so you can leave as quickly and quietly as possible.

Great job as always Josh! Here’s another one that I feel falls more into the “good practices” category. It’s a really good idea to make sure that the power post circuit breakers are turned off before connecting or disconnecting your 30 or 50 amp snake. I try to make a habit of leaving the power post breakers off when I leave my site to help protect the next camper hookup from connection surges. I also use a quality surge protection and ground fault sensing device on my trailer.

At each campground, whether we've been there before or not, I like to walk around; "get a lay of the land". So after set-up is complete, and I've cleaned up our own campsite, I take a trash bag and "picker upper" with me and clean up loose trash in the common areas. Part of relaxing is not having to look at trash, and it's a little therapeutic for me too and appreciated by other campers. We've got a lot of thank yous when doing so.

My biggest campsite pet peeve are cigarette butts left all around the site or in the firepit. I am not shaming, but just asking for campsite courtesy. I always let the campground manager know when I find a site that I felt did not reach a cleanliness level that is basically standard. Watched an old movie with my middle school-age daughter. She asked why EVERYBODY is smoking in it -- including many high school kids. Had to laugh and realized how far we'd come in that regard But.. it takes one family who smokes like a freight train to dirty up a campsite. That's for sure

I agree with the dog. We take our dachshund but he has a shock/vibration collar just by putting it on him he knows to be quiet. I dislike the barking and letting them roam through the park. We just got back from camping and there was a Great Pyrenees barking all the time by us. Not pleasant. Love that you did this video. All of the areas that you talked about were spot on. Never seen the poo hose thrown on a table. 😮. I’ve camped a lot and one of my biggest concerns is that campers take a hatchet to the trees for firewood. I’m like 😡.

All of the pet ones are bang on Josh. Huge pet peeve of ours and we have always had dogs. Sadly, one of our dogs we could never take camping as she was afraid of (and would bark at) so many things. We always said a campground was her version of hell....so she never came with us. So happy to now have a dog that happily hangs out at our campsite with us.

this is the reason why we stick to Canadian forest service campsites at fishing lakes.rarely any kids,most of the campers are anglers/hunters so early to bed,early to rise,they are mostly seasoned campers so they have the camping courtesy, the sites are always clean because you pack in/out.the only issue is unregulated genny hours and maybe a little fast to drive in/out on their atv's,but generally way more behaved than managed campgrounds,which for us is a very last resort and we still try to stick to a provincial park if we can.they are generally laid out so nobody can cut through your site and are very well managed.

Regarding dogs. We have a portable pen that we take with us. it has 3 foot tall by 2 foot wide panels. We have 16 panels, which gives our dogs plenty of space.

Very good video Josh, as always! I have kind of a suggestion to add. Please don’t use playgrounds or pools as a babysitter for the kids. This past summer I & my granddaughter were at the playground & a little fellow about 4 years old was playing & he fell off the slide at the top. He was clearly injured & no one seemed to know who this little guy belonged to. I probably gave up really quick to find his parent & a parent did show up when the ambulance arrived. Maybe a one off but the lifeguard told me it happens a lot. It truly is most likely not the majority of parents- at least I hope!

Our dog goes camping with us every time. We also make sure he stays in our campground, and is unheard from others. Not only uncontrolled dog barking; but, loud TV/radios are very annoying when camping. Fast driving (30+ MPH) stereo blaring 'golf carts' are the worse.

I have noticed I have the same issues at home with dogs. My dog is not dog friendly! I adopted him when he was old. I have been trying to fix it, but he is old and grumpy. He is always on a leash, and I am always with him when he is outside. I have so many neighbors that walk their dogs off leash, and the dogs see my old grumpy guy and come running to play. I am not at the dog park in the complex for a reason! He is an aggressive dog! Loves people, loves kids, and hates anything with four legs! When other dogs are on leashes then I can work with him, and he improves a tiny bit. He is 12 years old! When they just come free running at us, all I can do is pick him up and turn him on his back. He is on a harness, so I can grab him easily. It scares me, because if he escalates something with the other dog, I could end up getting hurt too because I am now holding him. He is 8 lbs. of terror when other dogs are around. It is embarrassing, but it is what it is. He will go out with me when I get my RV and move full-time into it, and the rules will be the same for him there as they are here. That is if he lives long enough. He is old and slowing down seriously!

Regarding the dog .Most campgrounds rules state to keep your dog tied or on a leash. But always someone doesn't follow the rule. We sometimes take our dog and she does not seem to like other dogs. Just this year we had a dog run out when we were on our bicycles. Luckily our dog was contained in a bike trailer that were trying to get her used to. My husband almost wrecked when the dog ran out and all the owner said was their dog was friendly. Good grief we would have had a dog fight if we would have been walking her. We also see the trash sometimes in firepits and cigarette butts all over the campsite . Great video Josh to remind everyone to be courteous to others but your right some people don't care.

My husband and I had a lovely time camping last week. However, the guy right next to us, was text book what NOT to do. Super trashy campsite. It’s like he had emptied out his RV and all his stuff is strewn around. Putting trash in the fire ring where animals would get in it and scatter it around. He also had a very bright light that stayed on 24/7. Luckily for us he was on our backside and he was quiet. I really enjoy your videos. Nothing like canoeing up river over 6 hours , find a lonely campsite beside great fishing rapids. Then having to cleanup garbage, empty beer cans to leave a good site for the next campers. Love your videos! Thank you for the dog information! Mine is trained to ignore other dogs and people. I don’t want other dogs to run up to me. I have had one aggressive dog get my leash all wrapped up in my legs with my dog trying to get away from the other dog and make me fall. At 63 a fall is not a good thing. The barking issue is out of control lately. Dogs are not babies they are dogs and need to be trained not to be constantly reactive. If you can’t train your dog leave it at home.

Amen! There are too many dog owners who don't take the time or make the effort to train their dogs. I recently heard dogs barking at 2 am and it didn't occur to the owner that this might be annoying to others. I'm very disappointed that campers have no recourse for dealing with this. Posted camp rules almost never address the issue of barking dogs.

On the fire pit thing, there are a TON of people who think metal foil will burn. It doesn’t. I maintain a backcountry campsite where all trash has to be carried out, and that’s the one thing we constantly have to go through and pick out of the ashes even when people have otherwise been pretty clean. In addition to fire pits, latrines are also not trash can. If you put bottles, cans, diapers, or feminine hygiene products in a latrine pit, somebody else has to fish that back out, and that’s not a good time.

Another great video! I do not have any social media accounts not sure how best to get ahold of you. I would love to see a video on RV safety. You know, what to do incase of a fire, medical issue, safe setup (enough wheel chocks), etc. Every spring we do a fire drill. Remind everyone how to get out, where to meet, etc. In our HTT, with the bunk end windows they are also zipper E-Exits. My rule, those zippers MUST be kept top and center, This way you can find them to escape quickly incase of a fire. Love all your videos!

We've experienced too many occasions where neighboring campsites 'smudge' burn trash in the mornings and all the smoke travels towards our site and camper with open windows and door. Not an odor anyone wants the breath or have inside their camper.

My biggest issue camping was people that eat around the campfire at night throwing chicken bones in the woods, my dog considered it an appetizer and scanned the area all the time, throw them in the fire or the garbage, it could end up in a bad situation and costly vet bills.

If there is large number people try to.park cars and trucks in parking area instead of jamming up main road or blocking neighbors. Don't run gensets after nine pm. Put out fire pit when through using it fire hazard. Don't use gasoline as fire starter. Your back side camper left side is in neighbors front yard your sewer connection. Make sure connection is secure. Having black leaks smelling up other person front yard. Try to set up and tear down before evening time

Josh - Great Video and right on. Got an addition for the dumping issue - especially for folks who use pony tanks (those blue demons on wheels) - ALWAYS USE A BLESSED HOSE! We had an individual who simply tipped his tank into the drain as the wife and I were in the next site having breakfast. The downwind was ... disagreeable. Always use the hose. And, although we should not have to say this - NEVER NEVER NEVER use gasoline as a campfire starter or accelerant. Bad stuff happens. (Saw this at the next campsite - was a wonder the genius didn't end up more well done than the hot dogs he cindered.)

When I was a kid in the 70s and 80s going camping with my family and with the boy scouts non of this was necessary to tell grown adults to do people using common courtesy on how to be respectful of others. Now small children where a totally different story as they needed to be told these things by their parents. What is the most disturbing to me is that I know that grown adults today need to be told these things over and over again each and every time that they go camping or doing anything else for that matter. Its really sad that people just don't care about being respectful of others.

On the topic of fire pits: Backcountry camping we always use a portable fire pit now. Only took one bad experience where some bozo had raked some unfired .22 cartridges into the ashes. Fire got hot and cooked ‘em off. Luckily the wind berm was high enough that there weren’t any injuries, but yeah, only takes once.

Another reason to slow down is many campgrounds have gravel roads and nothing is worse than eating dinner outside when a dust storm comes drifting through the site.

I love your vids! Always super informative. Honestly I believe if more people were raised camping with the fear of black bears coming into your campsite, there would be more good neighbors lol! I was also raised tent camping so seriously those black bears were super scary!!! I have some questions and maybe they can be addressed in a future video: 1. What's the best advice you can give to someone coming from a tent camping experience in their younger years to moving into a 5th wheel? 2. We don't have dogs but, we do have cats. Any special advice for camping with cats? lol 3. what's the differences between a furion and a truma instant heaters? 4. what's the difference between electronic and hydraulic leveling systems? Is one more convenient than the other? 5. I have yet to find a video that explains solar powering in a way that I can understand. Volts? Amps? What can be run? I see all these packages available and have no idea what any of them mean lol! AGHHHH!!! Unfortunately my husband has put me in charge of all the researching lol

1) Keep your space neat have respect for neighbors and having places to camp. This includes your rig. Broken steps, wrecked bumpers, repair as you go..Police your campsite daily picking up litter and small parts that may have fallen while fixing something . Leave the everything including the kitchen sink ouside means you need to leave more at home or in a storage unit. . 2)Humming bird feeders are better if it's a must, you must have. Remember once your gone those poor birds your feeding my not find another food source. Remove any feeders at night. Store in tight container out of reach of wildlife. Seed and shells on the ground do attack mice and other creepy crawlies at night. Even bears, raccoons, skunks and other wildlife show up to seek out a nibble.

This is a pet peeve when you get stuck with a spot close to the shower house, but EXTREMELY loud unoiled exhaust fans you can hear a football field away, and those undampened doors that slam all hours of the night. Nothing to do about the first but it would be nice of people helped with the slamming steel vault door after quiet time.

We have had a couple of vacations mired with drunks. They are loud and the ranger joined in with them, could not believe it. Also a drunk who peed in front of people when the toilet was just in front of him . I also heard when you rent your site for the day and people walk through and fall in YOUR fire pit. If they hurt themselves they can sue you because it is your site. Like renting an apartment. Also we have had someone come in so late at night they parked next to us on our site. Then turn on there generator and out door lights ( next to us on our site). Some people don't have a clue.

Good video and something that I would like to see repeated a couple times during camping season. There's one issue we have here it's screaming kids after dark. Yes, it's fun to play hide and seek or scare each other in the dark, we all did it, but not in a campground. Music is another issue. Please keep it low enough to talk in a normal tone while it's playing. I know it's hard not to crank your music, but maybe a set of headphones would help you avoid the hairy eyeball from other campers? One thing we can't avoid is a car full of inebriated people who don't give a rats pah too tee when they pull in at 11pm and crank the music and yell. We have had to pull up camp a few times because there are no camp attendants, but that's in northern Canada so might not apply to USA uncontrolled campgrounds? Josh, thanks for listening.

I camped this summer and the people next to me let their kids scream, yell, and run through my campsite until well after 10pm quiet time. I eventually had to say something. I get that the kids are having fun and the adults are drinking and don't want to deal with them, but you're not the only people in this campground. And the carloads of inebriated 20-somethings are the reason I gave up frontcountry camping a few years back, and still refuse to go on long weekends. A little basic respect and courtesy goes a long way.

Full disclosure - I'm not an RVer and I haven't been camping since I was a child. I clicked on this video to see how many of these points were basic common sense. I was not disappointed. Don't get me wrong, this was a good video. I am just always amazed how many people lack common courtesy.

I have not seen much speeding in campgrounds fortunately. I think most people either have kids or expensive rigs or something they care about that keeps it under control. I wish you you could do a similar video on general parking lots where it is more like a combination of demolition derby and sprint car racing then sane driving.
