The world is a wide and weird place. Down darkened alleyways, on rugged roads in the heart of nowhere, and even in the familiar corners of our homes, some of the strangest and most sinister entities are said to lurk. These creatures are not your typical monsters, but - just as ghosts fright and and werewolves bite - they are whispered to have ominous intentions. What follows are tales connected to five such entities - entities which, when encountered, are claimed to have caused nothing but woe.

In 2007, my sensible grandmother saw a Spring-heeled Jack character out her living room window. There had been a storm and the power was out on their side of the neighborhood. But there was enough light for her to see a man in dark clothes and a cap bouncing in her yard. This man bounded over their gate and towards the local cemetery. As I said, she was a no-nonsense type of person and this made the event scarier. I should add that before this sighting, she, and my mom saw a bright yellow light on the kitchen wall. My grandfather did not see it and remember their power was out. Spooky. This happened in East, KY.

I had a strange experience traveling across Dartmoor one night over 20 years ago, traveling the stretch of the B3212 between the Warren House Inn and Postbridge the road goes over a stone bridge and it was there the steering wheel of my car violently juddered for about 10 seconds and felt a sensation of being pulled into a ditch. The sensation ceased and dismissed it as a wheel tracking issue, but I've never forgotten it.

When I was about ten (1975-ish), we lived in a small town in the south of England. I was terrified one night when a figure dressed in a Harlequin clown costume (I could see the diamond shaped patterns on the clothes) appeared in my bedroom and moved towards me. It disappeared after a few seconds, and to this day I have no idea what it was (if it was there), or if it was one of those realistic dreams you sometimes have as you're waking up. Whatever it was, it scared the crap out of me.

During sleep paralysis episodes I have woken up from adrenaline and cortisol ( stress, fight or flight hormones) which does elevate your heart rate and blood pressure. What’s very strange is you can feel like you’ve been in the sleep paralysis realm for hours only to wake and see that 10 minutes have elapsed. Truly bizarre.

My first time was like that. I couldn't breathe and started panicking instantly. Then my (long dead) great grandmother's voice told me "relax like they taught you in class". I'd been taking a yoga course at the time so I forced my facial/cranial muscles to go slack and I snapped right out of it, heart racing and gasping. Since then, I've made honoring the ancestors part of my 'religion'...it's the least I could do to thank her, even if I contrived it all on my own.

I used to get sleep paralysis fairly often-- often enough it stopped scaring me. Eventually my reaction became more of an annoyed "not AGAIN!" than anything else. I never did see anything; however, I did keep sensing something menacing just outside of my range of vision. Afterwards I would often notice that the room while I was paralyzed was different than the "waking world" version.

@@BBulletin Thats how my sleep paralysis was, but there was this one time that I was actually able to "sleep walk" while on a sleep paralysis, if that makes sense? Very interesting. In reading all of your comments I can relate to every one of them. Sometimes I was able to take control of my actions within the dream. Not often but when I did it was a whole different experience. Sometimes I could fly and I really felt like I could accelerate to a near infinite speed and could feel the momentum. Best way to describe it is the jump to light speed scene in Star Wars ( yup I’m old). I experienced it in my crib all the way to 2020. It’s a very strange story the very last time I had an episode. I can try to describe it if anyone wants to hear it. Apologies I’m not the greatest writer. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I’d love to hear more.

Your absolutely right. Id never thought Id say this but I never believed in other cyrptids or paranormal other than ghosts or aliens but I saw a warewolf crossing the road this year. It was 7ft tall, all black and its legs were creepy as hell. They were backwards and it ran so fast but the feet weren't touching the ground and it had a distorted motion going on around him like what I was seeing was from another dimension. I still cant believe what I saw still, like I still cant believe those stories are real. No one believes which is exactly how I thought people would react so no surprise there. People are also susceptible to manipulation, suggestions, make-belief and rumors. One's status, office or perceived credibility does not equal reliable, real or accurate account of an event or "encounter". Spring-Heeled Jack is possibly based on real events. Some mad, violent miscreant scaring people and terrorising his surroundings with sexually motivated attacks and vandalism. Hardly supernatural. He evolved into an otherworldly character. If he existed, he was an athletic, quick and agile man with disturbed urges or a sick sense of humour. His supernatural origin or superhuman abilities are embellishment and rumours living the life of their own. I am prone to believe he existed. The clothes he is depicted wearing remind me of hussars or similar light cavalry. Those guys tended to be fit and even acrobatic. Maybe he "took advantage" of his evenings off the barracks or had procured pieces of an old cavalry uniform somewhere. It is even likely he existed. But he was not supernatural.

For the doubles, my sister had a friend who insisted she could never be alone. She would not say why, but was clearly scared. It took a long time for me to learn that she was a bad person. Maybe she had seen her own shadow person. Her boyfriend did, said it tried to push him downstairs. They were a pair of predators.

I waved but the didnt look, they kept looking forward, looking incredibly angry. I wondered what was wrong, but due to the road and traffic i couldnt stop or turn around to follow them. I was close to home so decided to keep going home and then id ring mum who wasnt driving to see what was wrong. However when i got home, their car was in the drive. Confused i went in hte house, dad was sitting watching TV mum was in the kitchen, confused i asked wahat was wrong and how did they get home so early (i live in the UK fenlands, there are very few routes to our house aqnd the one i took was the quickest). They told me they hadnt even left home that day. Now i wonder if these were their evil doppelgangers. Their faces were so angry yet blank

I've had a encounter with sleep paralysis things. I only got the sleep paralyasis for 2 or 3 nights in a row about 3 years ago, never before, never since. I couldn't move, i tried to scream for help, but i couldn't muster a word. I was very scared. I felt like something dark that i couldn't see the outline of properly was watching me from the gap in the curtains. One night it felt like multiple things were watching me. Very scary, would hate for it to happen again.

I’ve only seen the hat man once in a dream. It was like a being made of concentrated darkness who tried to fight me as it’s darkness enveloped me. For some reason in my right hand I felt all of my light concentrate and illuminated my right hand as I clenched my fist and went to connect my punch with his. There was a flash of light when our punches connected and I woke up.

the way to break sleep paralysis is to concentrate on moving a small part of your body, like the tip of a finger. once you can move the tip of a finger, then you can break free. also, avoid sleeping on your back if you are prone to sleep paralysis.

**IF YOU HAVE SLEEP PARALYSIS PLEASE READ** I am almost 40 years old, and I've been experiencing sleep paralysis since I was in the fourth grade (age 8 or 9). I quickly learned **how to snap out of it** . Here's what you need to do: 1) Close your eyes. 2) Take a few deep breaths. You need to be calm. 3) Imagine you're sucking all of your physical energy into the center of your chest. 4) Take one more deep breath, hold it in.... 5) THEN EXPLODE! Try to move your entire body at once. You kind of need to "surprise yourself". It normally takes a 2 or 3 tries of "exploding", but I've been successfully using this method to break out of sleep paralysis for about 30 years now. Thankfully, the older I get, the less it happens to me. And I honestly can't even remember the last time it happened. It's been a few years.

Yeah the hat man seems to be appear everywhere heard many stories about him, some say seeing him is usually a warning of death, but it does make sense plague doctors wore top hats and were usually messengers of death so maybe they're seeing old plague doctors. And death in sleep paralysis seems plausible I had it once and during it I had a blanket wrapped over my head had a panic attack woke up and my heart was pounding and I was soaked in sweat

Great video as always, I will consider the quill and ink society member ship as I've been a fan of you both for years now. Otherwise thanks for the great KZbin vid. P.s. I've seen the hat man, he's no joke and had two shadow people at his side when they visited me during my sleep paralysis. On the bright side all I could do was literally pray as I lay frozen to the bed and in such a futile act I thought at the time a brilliant white light appeared and seemingly burned them out of existence engulfing me in strong feeling of love almost as receiving a very warm hug from a loved one. After that I never saw him or the shadow people ever again.... It was terrifying though, I've never felt so helpless. Cheers 🥂

I didn't know hat man was a known entity. I used to wake up hyperventilating not breathing when I was a kid. I would look out in my grandmas backyard and there was hat man standing in her backyard watching me. I would scream to my mom and family there he is pointing out back. Nobody was ever able to see him except me. Hat man revisited me when I was a teenager and tried to smother me with a pillow in my sleep. I woke up and fought him off when I realized what was happening. He backed up in a manner like that of someone floating to my cracked bedroom door and then slid through the crack backwards facing me as he vanished. He is about 7 ft tall and looks like he is dressed as a detective from those old cop shows wearing a trenchcoat with a top hat. I will never forget watching him slink out of my bedroom after trying to smother me. I'm 41 and that was over 20 years ago.

I had two sleep paralysis episodes during the course of a week a few years ago where i heard someone sprinting up my stairs and run into my room where I was sleeping. In one of these instances I was grabbed when they ran into my room. When i was grabbed I immediately snapped out of it and of course no one was there and bedroom door was shut. I think it was just my brain playing tricks on me, but who knows.

When I was 3 years old not quite 4 I had a horrific encounter at night during a thunderstorm. I was in bed with my mother sleeping and happened to wake up just as lightning struck outside but very close to the house. I saw what I believe was a skeletal apparition standing at the edge of the bed looking directly at me. I started crying and demanded my mother turn on the light, and she woke up and frantically went to the light switch. When she turned it on and reached to grab me nothing was there! This is my earliest memory, and it has had a profound effect on my life. Oddly enough I am an artist, and have drawn, painted, and carved more sklls and skeletons than anything else since the age of 8. I am 46 years old now and still wondering what it was I saw that night!!! 💀

I put these videos on to help me sleep but when The Hat Man came up i was instantly awake. I've seen him several times for as long as i can remember but only when I'm awake, a lot more since the pandemic. Brimmed hat, trench coat, no face, basically just a shade, always in the same door frame. In my case his legs end at the knee so he's just hovering, when i see him he's in the corner of my eye then gone as soon as i look directly at him. I have VSS (visual snow syndrome) +some childhood head trauma so i thought it was just one of those/both acting up and occasionally making me see things, weird that enough people have seen him to make a group about him though.

This is odd, Thursday night/Friday morning just gone, I saw the hat man. I wasn't asleep I suffer with insomnia and I tried to tell him to leave and tried to kick him. He was standing over me by my bed. Freaked me out because I couldn't move no matter how hard I tried but I heard myself saying go away, get lost. Then he was gone. My room is very dark and he was darker than anything else in my room that I could see his silhouette in contrast to everything else. I couldn't sleep after it had this uneasy feeling wash over me. Has never happened before and told my mam and friends about it the next day. I have seen shadow people but this was something else the feeling I got off this thing weirded me out. Just odd to see you mention him because I tried explaining it to them. So thank you for reconfirming I'm not the only one who has seen this thing.

When I was a child my grandmother asked me to look out her window and tell her what I saw. I thought it was strange but did as she asked. I reported each thing I saw including my uncle sitting in his car. She stopped me there and asked how I knew it was him. I replied that I knew it was him because he had his hat on. My uncle had died 3 days prior to this incident but I forgot that. She got a strange look on her face and told me that she was seeing him too. It looked kind of shadowy but the hat was distinctive. Since then I have seen the hooded figure people all the Grim Reaper a few times. Usually just before I hear about a death of someone near me. I don’t usually see shadow figures, it’s very rare. I believe that they mean us harm. Grandma said, “Don’t go searching for demons, you might find one.”
