In March 1920, several items, including clothing and religious artefacts, mysteriously caught fire in the Pillay family's home in Needamangalam, India. At first ascribed to accident, it was soon feared the cause was supernatural - and possibly demonic. What followed was a series of strange and haunting happenings, poltergeist in nature, that led to the involvement of the Church. Today, this true case of poltergeist phenomena has largely been lost to history, despite being well-documented and, at the time, feared...

It would be interesting to know something about Mr Pillay's children at the time of these events - ages, emotional states, intrafamilial conflicts, etc. In so many poltergeist-type situations, a disturbed or deeply unhappy child (often a young teen) seems to be a focus of the manifestations. Of course - and discounting simple trickery - that possibility only opens up a new set of imponderables...

You echo many of my sentiments. I have no doubt that those involved were experiencing some of the events but that others were embellished or misinterpreted. My guess is that a skilled therapist or interrogator would have been a more appropriate choice for solving this family's issues.

This was not a so-called "poltergeist". This was a demon that was trying to turn the father, or the entire Christian family, away from Jesus Christ, our only means of salvation. Unless an actual exorcism of the house was done it would not leave.

A manifestation by a living agent kinetically expressed , affecting the environment that it's projected into. Usually by an emotionally stressed or repressed person, often traced back to s post prepubescent but not yet adult person. Usually typified by apports of object dispporatiion of same including couns and objects that seem random but unable to be easily acquired, fires, loud sudden noises, things thrown at people, breakage the development of a personality over time not all at once And overwhelming malice... Gold star for your correlation, dead in...sometimes it is... As for fakery, you ever noticed how at first in these accounts there's no possibility everyone says that oh I watch them nothing could have happened they could have done anything. But it is after scrutiny when there is a push to have this verified as being non-human activity that suddenly there will be instances where it seems or is caught to be fakery. In these instances you'll almost always find that there is an expectation that's put out by these people that are there and parents children anybody that's in that household will after a time of being inundated with when will it happen when will it happen when will it happen they do it in order to keep those people there when nothing happens. You also know that that's often the case but nothing happens whether people there registering it happens when they're out of the room or not there at all that's because that person could be contrary in themselves in their thinking in their subconscious feeling that's my opinion but again Dead on I myself have done these kind of correlations with these cases and it seems like these are commonalities across the board there's also one other thing that you'll see in PK manifestations? The port or the appearance out of the air of liquids that's recently drop rain or they'll be an oil that's produced it'll be something that's produced that thinner that is impossible for it to be happening indoors or at all there was one case that the Peking manifestation in developing its own personality of time. Directed of a person that expectation is being met and produces the personality that someone who could take that became manifestation and they think of manifestation could have its own record remove the smell the smell of flowers their oil and produce it elsewhere. That's the other dangerous thing about this weekend they can persist after the death of the original person who produced it

If people can experience a "ghost" by seeing it, feeling it, smelling it, whatever, then it must exist in the physical world. If we can detect it with our senses, then we can test it. Cameras and other instruments can detect and record things that our eyes can not. If we can actually see things with our eyes, then we can detect and record them with other instruments. We can measure and record things far beyond what we can experience with our senses. We can detect atoms and gamma rays, extremely high and low frequencies of sound that are beyond what our ears can "hear", and yet people claim to be able see ghosts that can't be recorded or be able to record ghosts that can't be seen. If you can see something it can be recorded. There are many things that we personally can not experience but we can test and manipulate. We can broadcast television and radio signals through the atmosphere, that we as humans can not detect, but radio receivers can pick up and decipher, and playback visual and aural information that we understand. I am not saying that there not things that we do not understand. But to claim that that there are phenomena that humans can experience ( see, hear, taste, smell, touch, etc.) that can not be measured scientifically is ludicrous. If a human experiences something that can not be measured, then it is either an active imagination or a hallucination. paranormal experiences are easily explainable, based on faulty activity in the brain. Reports of poltergeists invisibly moving objects seem to be consistent with damage to certain regions of the right hemisphere that are responsible for visual processing; certain forms of epilepsy, meanwhile, can cause the spooky feeling that a presence is stalking you close by - perhaps underlying accounts of faceless “shadow people” lurking in the surroundings. We can even induce these using magnets, - When we become afraid, blood flows from the fingertips from the major muscles of the body as you get ready to run or fight, and that can make you cold. You also become hyper-vigilant, so you start noticing footsteps or voices you wouldn’t have noticed before, and start assuming this is some sort of weird paranormal activity. Anthropomorphism is common way that the brain evolved to understand events, If your ancestor heard rustling leaves they had a choice. Assumed it was predator running away or stay making no assumptions. First choice held no risk. Guaranteed survival. The second choice ended in death if you were wrong. Over time those who anthropomorphized these events had more children. Research has found that believers may have weaker cognitive “inhibition”, compared to sceptics. That’s the skill that allows you to quash unwanted thoughts, so perhaps we are all spooked by strange coincidences and patterns from time to time, but sceptics are better at pushing them aside

Makes you wonder. My upbringing was...shall we say difficult to be polite? I recall after one particularly stressful day when I was in my mid teens (I think) we awoke to find the extractor fan above the oven ripped off the wall and slammed into the oven beneath. I had heard nothing even though my bedroom was not far from the kitchen. Not a target I would have chosen but made me wonder what my subconscious was up to.

Wow, Laura this may easily be the most disturbing tale of demonic infestation that I’ve ever heard of and it even rivals that of film and television which are of course highly embellished. The specific event which truly takes me to another level is how the deceased daughter was also being abused, and that’s definitely not any “normal” type of any haunting, which of course in itself isn’t normal anyway. And as your usual delivery of these stories are left to our own interpretation, this one doesn’t seem to leave any room for confusion. To know the details and to have it documented in his diary, not an attempt to profit whatsoever, again, brings me to believe it 100%. And again, that can take a toll on anyone! What does bring me joy is that the father stated his devotion to God and guarded his soul with his faith, does again put me at ease. So in the always expected and never left wanting, way that you bring us your amazing work, and your delivery and clear attention to detail is fantastic. Thanks again Mrs. Rowton, and I will be waiting for your next notification!! 👏👏👏

As someone who lives with a spiritual attachment, I count my blessings that mine is merely irritating. I have an invisible creature - possibly a snake or spider or similar - touches me and often just tickles or confuses me. I feel the sensation of something on top of my head, constricting my scalp. I can move it if I place my hand flat there for a while. I originally thought it was some form of psychosis - especially as it happens in the early hours of the morning often around 3am - but not after being able to take hold of the entity and make it stick to others. Also it will sometimes cause others in the room to itch. Checked everything from worms to parasites to skin afflictions and allergies. All negative. Has survived 3 house moves but it seems spiritual because it manifests particularly strongly when I am partying hard or for a good few hours (especially around 3am - 4am). Part of me loves it - because I always imagined these things were stories from those with vivid imaginations. Now I am certain that there is more in this world than what schools teach us. Always see things out of the corner of my eye, and weirdly, the more you are harassed the more you can see or sense other paranormal phenomena.

Please pray to God to have it removed. A lot of demonic hauntings start out mild or small then the more YOU ALLOW them to manifest and assert their presence the more VIOLENT they get. Look up Alastair Crowley drawing of a demon( he didn't call it a demon but supposedly it was inter dimensional started out benevolent and LATER GOT VIOLENT AND HARRASSMENT. ) Cover yourself with the blood of Jesus. It maybe a demon connected via your bloodline maybe an ancestor summoned it or was so negative it attached itself to your family and because YOU ALLOW it it attached itself to you. It sounds like somebody in the family's neighborhood has "sicced" a demon on their household. Somebody had an awful problem with the man. I don't mean any disrespect whatsoever, but I wonder if there can ever be any cross-cultural remedies employed that would work to help rid anyone similarly afflicted? I 'm originally from the Southern region of the U.S., and this stirred in me a recollection of what's known as a "Hag Catcher" that would have been engaged to alleviate the trouble. The proper methods such a one would use would not only stop the activity in this man's home, but would make the entity rebound upon the human cause, possibly causing that one's death.

My own mysterious, malevolent force in my house right now is a blind 6 week old foster siamese kitten who keeps making things go bump, crash, and scratch, followed by quickly pattering and scrambling footsteps. Especially when churches and Christian missionaries made sure that those refused to convert were mistreated in their own country. And those who converted were given special treatment. People like pillai were converted given positions of power and put in charge of pressuring people into converting. These churches and missionaries were so wicked that they would go to tribal areas, put a piece of bread in a river/stream and once the locals consume the water, the “priest” would tell these people they were now converted 🤣 No wonder people did not like Christians or Christianity in those regions. You do need to ill treat people or give them worldly riches to have them convert if you truly believe that your faith is good. Christianity/missionaries however always used wicked methods to convert people. And then there is this crazy rhetoric that Hindu Gods and Buddhist monks are demons and their spiritual practices are demonic. Way to win hearts lol. Having said that it is sad to see the west stray from basic Christian morals and fall to the invasion of Islam.

I thought the same many times, the images, if not actually from the story, retract from it. I didn’t want to comment about it as I was worried I wouldn’t explain the issue well enough and have it be misunderstood and cause any aggravation. So it’s nice to see you can just see the concept stated and you can reply with an explanation with no malice at all. Probably sounds like something not worth mentioning but most people have excuses to react aggressively and I was expecting some level of misunderstanding here so just goes to show the good professional person (assuming people?) that creates these videos.

How did the neighbor know to knock on their door and tell them something fell on the roof, if they didn’t know what it was, yet or that it belonged to them? Usually, if you hear something hit the roof, you’d just check to see if there was damage. I know it’s common for houses in Indian cities to have flat roofs with access to them from a door. If it were that easy then why not just go up and check it out? Why wouldn’t the neighbor have found the crucifix and brought it back when they knocked on the door? Why would they even be telling them about it before they knew what hit the roof? Was the house where the crucifix fell positioned lower than the other house, so that something thrown from the window might land on the roof of the other house? Was something changed in the retelling of this story at some time? Hmm 🤔

Probably saw something on the roof but couldn't tell what it was so knocked on the door and said something fell on your roof

Hi there Love your stories I believe you are based in beautiful England (not when temp is under -10; don’t mind me I am Portuguese) and I tried to reach out to the team of bedtime stories but with no reply ; you should try and gather information about a pub from a town called Shrewsbury …..the pubs name is “ the Nags head” . Tip :the room at the first floor; and the shrine at the back. Love your stories.😊

If there is in fact, a theory about our thoughts and emotions having an effect on physical reality, I have a personal experience that might pique this communities' interest. Mind you, I'm still slightly skeptical that it was anything truly paranormal, however, I also have no other mundane or reasonable explanation. For context, I have unfortunately suffered from anxiety and depression for most of my life. When I have a depressive episode it can feel, apathetic, lethargic and stressful, to paint a picture. I was having one such episode driving home from work after a very stressful day. Invasive thoughts of totaling my car to end my suffering were present, and emotionally charged, but I had no plans to act on them. (Also, I am safe and currently investigating treatment options for my illness. This event happened around 4-5 years ago now.) When such invasive thoughts could be dangerous, is when the depression has you feeling so lethargic you feel powerless to stop them. Not frightened, just exhausted, almost disinterested. Why all this detail about the sensations of mental illness? What happened next, in my experience, did NOT feel like an episode of depression. My hands were in the 10 - 2 positions on the steering wheel, when suddenly, I felt what I can only describe as another pair of hands, at positions 9 - 3 trying to wrench my vehicle to the left with great force. There was nothing there, and though I describe it as a pair of hands, I felt no such sensations brushing up against my skin. The force seemed to be exerting itself from those positions. Worst of all.. it felt malignant, hateful as though it wanted to do me harm. I was utterly shocked and terrified. I am not a religious person, but being a bit of a nerd, I decided to call upon Archangel Michael for protection in that moment as I was desperate. After a few moments of resisting, the force and malice vanished. I arrived home safely. I had never experienced anything like it before or since. If I recall correctly, I don't think hallucinations can occur as a result of this pair of mental illnesses alone; nor do hallucinations have a tactile component, only auditory or visual. I like to take a respectfully skeptical approach to the paranormal as it makes more sense to look for mundane causes first. Even then, I am not entirely certain my mental health was to blame. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I have wanted to share this story for a while among those who are open minded and curious about high strangeness. I have been fascinated by it all my life, but never thought I'd actually have such an experience. Sorry for the long post, and stay safe out there!

When one of grandpa's house was exorcised in the 1970s an unusual amount of dust like ash was left in the area. The spiritualist who conducted the exorcism was asked to describe what the thing looked like so he told my dad who was a teenager then and grandpa to touch his arm so they can see it for themselves but none of them worked up a courage to do so. The exorcist just described it as an evil spirit that is very black and tall. He then said the neighborhood was densely populated by spirits mostly good and benevolent but he can also see markings that were signs of evil presence but nothing to worry about because he said the place is guarded by beings who wear white robes and don long red hats.

Usually a poltergeist doesn’t respond “intelligently” but just feeds off the energy that we give it, so this must be an actual demon(s).

As much as his deceased daughter being in dark place and the family's suffering saddened me .. I am pretty sure it wasn't their daughter who spoke about her suffering from dead .. but thay very insidious entity who is playing with their minds making them suffer mentally draining them using their daughter's name .. these entities can learn a lot about a person and his/her past via the entity stuck to each human called 'Qareen' (in Islamic tradition) that Qarren of any person looks and sounds exactly like the person it is attached to and tells his secrets and needed information to other entities that want to hurt that person .. I wish they could found out about the reality and not suffer
