Tage could still bring the value up quite a bit over the next couple years for that trade and who would’ve have known that Bergie would go awol midway through the season. The trade seemed pretty good at the time for both parties ROR for sobo and berglund solid top 9 guys and tage Thompson who had a floor of Boyle and could skyrocket to a Thornton, and a second who could be a really good player. Oreilly was a second line center at the time who lost the love of the game which hurt the trade value. Armstrong has pretty much been a genius at trade negotiations stepmniac for steen, lehtera and a first fro schenn, David runblad for tarasenko, the oreilly trade of course and multiple picks turning into parayko, barbashev and Binnington.

Hall is oft injured and was halfway through a contract year set to become a FA anyway and publicly stated he wanted to be on a contending team. The reason Shero was let go was because no one played to their ability this past season and that’s more a coaching issue than a roster management one and because Shero held on to Hynes way too long.

I understand the allure of mentioning Dale Tallon in this video. However, Dale Tallon's firing had very special circumstances. During the summer 0f 2009, Dale Tallion did not send qualifying offers to a set of restricted free agents (RFA) before the free agency deadline of July 1st. Technically, all these RFAs became unrestricted free agents (UFA). Nonetheless, Tallon re-signed all the RFAs but with substantial pay rises. This ultimately resulted in the Blackhawks having to trade great young players like Dustin Bufyglien and Andrew Ladd due to salary cap pressure. The Blackhawks were handcuffed on the salary cap for nearly a decade and it prevented them from winning a second cup the following year. In the end, that was a well deserved firing.

@RobTalksHockey4 жыл бұрын
@@joer8854 I am well aware that they can unload a lot of their current cap. However, that comes with some massive downfall which is depth. Because who do you lose? Obviously Dahlin will be a big price tag, Brandon Montour will be receiving a big raise, Sam Reinhart, Kahun, Olofsson who will be costly. Luckily Buffalo under the right management can strategically deal with their cap. But that "dealing" will come with loss of depth which will be a big issue
@joer88544 жыл бұрын
Player contracts aren't negotiated in a vacuum though. A cap freeze will definitely affect player contracts signed this season across the NHL. Tom Kurvers for the 1991 first round pick is probably worse. Team was a fringe playoff team (back then that meant you were very close to last overall) and a generational talent at the time from their backyard was available for this draft. To make things a little worse, Leafs made a few moves with the Nordiques to avoid the embarrassment of giving up Lindros. Leafs gave up more futures for roster players to improve a little and make the Nordiques a little worse. At least Kessel was around for 6 seasons and Boston didn't fully benefit from these picks (Seguin and Hamilton given away practically); Kurvers was gone before the 91 draft happened. At this point Rask has yet to lead the Bruins to a Cup (played no minutes as a back up in the 2011 run), and likely wouldn't have done the same with the Leafs if he wasn't moved. However Quebec drafted Lindros and flipped him for a truck load of assets that lead to building two Cup winning teams. Devils drafted Niedermayer who helped them win three Cups. IMO based on where the Leafs were in the early 90's and 2000's, having either Lindros or Niedermayer on those rosters has a good chance of pushing the team over the hump. The Raycroft or Kessel trade probably didn't cost the Leafs a Cup, the Kurvers trade likely did.

He's pulled some decent trade to cover other weaknesses such as previous poor trades, and more glaring, poor drafting and development.

You are kidding right? Poor trade? Where are the bergevin trades we didnt win?? I cant seem to find one... he did very well with what he had been given at the time... he had mccaron and leblanc as his prospects and now he has the best prospect pool with primeau KK poehling caufield ylonen ikonen romanov fleury

My red wings were on the receiving end of an absolute robbery of a trade. This season they acquired Robby Fabbri (former 21st overall pick) for Jacob de la Rose. Fabbri really displayed his draft pedigree this year in Detroit and I hope we sign him long term.
@mack81544 жыл бұрын
Tell me about it. I'm still scratching my head on that one... Fabbri wasn't getting any playing time when coming off back to back knee surgeries, and didn't have any time to find his game again. Can't really complain much given my blues were doing so well, but still to give fabbri away for absolutely nothing, and then see him find his game quickly was painful.
@cschroeder86504 жыл бұрын
@@mack8154 Fabbri was hurt way too often. And being a small forward, we already got a couple of those. Would you prefer Fabbri or Robert Thomas? I'll take Thomas... :-) De la Rose gives us another wrecking ball when needed.
@mack81544 жыл бұрын
@@cschroeder8650 Oh no doubt Thomas. Thomas is going to be a star in this league. I'm expecting 70-85 points a year from him in a couple of years. Only thing I want is him to shoot a little more. But, with fabbri we could have built his value up and got a lot more for him, that was my issue. But, army has done amazing job constructing this team and don't have many complaints for the job he has done. That's really only trade I was upset with. Fabbri should've at least gotten first round pick or something close to that, if we had waited to trade him. De la rose will be gone next year. And he didn't do anything for us for real. So, why not just hold onto Fabbri? He was making like 900k a year. And had a really high ceiling, and at very least let him gain his value back before you dump him for nothing
@tamarafisher15524 жыл бұрын
Fabbri wanted to be moved to a team that could give him more ice time.

Tallon got fired because he missed a bunch a deadline on several important contract tenders, giving guys like Byfuglien, Versteeg and Barker 3-4 million a year as opposed to high 6 figures if he got the the contracts in before the deadline. Bowman reaped the benefits of Tallon's incredible rebuild, and has segued that into a 10 year tenure with the Hawks. Hopefully he is gone this offseason.

Nobody gonna mention Feb 2017 trade: TBL aquired: Erik Cernak and Peter Budaj, LAK aquired: Ben Bishop.. who played there only 7 matches before free agency and Dallas signs... It was the time when Quick was season lomg injured, while Budaj made pretty decent season... not to mention Erik Cernak being this years Stanley Cup winner, being important team defender... this was madness trade for me

“Has your team ever made a bad trade?” Look at the entire Blackhawks 2018 offseason when they got rid of panarin for a lackluster goalie who was bad for an entire season and was the only time he saw net and hjalmarsson for someone who has potential but hasn’t necessarily shown it completely yet...

I'm an Oilers fan. Bad trades is all I've known. Gretzky back in 1988 for whiny Carson and some money. Pronger in 2006 for nothing. Smyth in 2007 for practically nothing. Hall for a slightly above average defenceman. Eberle for Ryan Strome. We got guys like McDavid, Draisaitl, Nurse, and Klefbom sure, but we drafted them and had to develop them. I do like Ken Holland though. He pulled off quite a move when he traded away Lucic, and to Calgary of all places. I thought we would be stuck with that guy for years.

Shero got fired for more then the Hall trade. He resigned a losing coach who was his buddy, only to fire him after the fans chanted "Fire Hynes" so loud you could hear it on the telecast. Along with a few other things

This season is not going very well but their future is bright. Mitts has had a injury riddled season but the following players are part of our future...... Krebs, Quinn, Cozens, Tuch, Joker, Dahlin, Samuelsson, Power, UPL, Portillo, Levi, Johnson, Fitzgerald, Tage, Peterka, Mitts & 2 extra 1st round draft picks & just as many 2nd round draft picks in the next few drafts. Plus I am not including any of the other 2021 draft picks.

As a Blackhawks fan, one trade that is never mentioned and was terrible is how the Hawks traded Panarin to CBJ for Brandon Saad who never had the incredible potential of a guy like Panarin. Panarin in his first 2 seasons finished with at least 74 points.... I don’t know how you openly trade such a young talented prospect and not request at least a 1st round pick in return. Who knows if they could have added 1 or 2 more cups in their great run over the last decade..
@capdown68284 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you've done it but you should research undeserved firings of head coaches or teams who failed to keep a good head coach. The beginning of your video made me think of the idea and also the fact that Washington let Trots leave. Didn't even give him an offer.
