This is how my 4 children and I live in my small NYC apartment. No I’m not proud of it, but I’m also not ashamed. Before this we lived inside a room (yes, one tiny room). Then I was able to afford a 1 bedroom. Now I’m about to afford a 2 bedroom. My dream is to get a house. I live paycheck to paycheck just like everyone else. I struggle just like everyone else, but through it all I’m thankful. I’ve been working hard and praying for guidance. To be honest, some days I think I’ll never get out of this apartment. It feels impossible! It’s impossible to save and survive. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but I won’t stop trying until I get it right. Welcome to my reality.

So true. I have a friend who was a personal nanny for a rich couple. They only trotted out the kids when they wanted to show how great they were and then shooed them off with a rotating staff when they wanted to get back to “living their best life.” Kids knew what was up and where they lay in the priorities and already showing out for attention. These children are so very obviously loved, and that’s worth more by far.

Ran into this by chance and as a man, a man raised by a single mother, a single mother who doesn’t alway see how heroic she was in raising my sister and I…. This brings back memories and I can honestly say your kids will grow up better people because they can see what you doing for them and clearly showing that just because you have less doesn’t mean it’s a reflection of you. I see pride in that home and as a man, a black man at that, it brings tears of joy to see this. Keep pushing my sister. Your kids and yourself will be the change we all seek.

IMO Just like in the show ( USA tv show ) , UNDERCOVER BOSS , I believe a lot of those in authority are disconnected with the living experiences of the majority. I would rather have LOVE and less possessions in my " HOME ! " IMO , this is what a " HOME ," looks like , not " housing ."

Why we have to put strong in front of black woman all the time? Strong and independent black woman. This catch phrase is the reason why most of y’all are single mom’s. SMH 🤦♂️

Or even just "mother" without referencing skin colour. Why divide us on colour? All mothers who are trying their best are strong, in my opinion.

Be proud of yourself. You are working with you have. You are beautiful and appear confident. Your children are gorgeous and your home looks clean. This may be your start but better will come. Though better may not look like a designer house. Health matters more than wealth. Peace of mind too. You live your truth. Hold your head high.

It was 6 of us in a 2 bedroom. Thank God it was a 1 1/2 bath. Basically when one jumps out the shower, water still running and the next one jumps in. Dad was a master drill sgt. So we know how to wash, get clean and get out. As far as sleeping goes. It was where ever you went to sleep. It was big beds in both rooms and a large sectional. 3 of us usually ended up on the couch cus we went to sleep watching TV. To date we are really close and not modest at all😂. Best days of my life.

You should be very proud! Your kids are loved. You are setting a great example. Many people are impressed by things and money. I have 7 siblings and my mom made ends meet with very little money. She was amazing, she didn't care what people thought. You remind me of her.

Thank you for posting this. I often feel very down, looking at posts on here and on Instagram because my life looks so basic and uneventful compared to the glamorous influencers or even other people on there. Those posts are enough to make one feel so miserable. Thank you again - there are people like me out there, and it’s alright… 🙏🏼

Absolutely no judgement here, your doing an amazing job looking after your children, keeping them warm, safe, clean, fed and mostly loved. Doesn’t matter whether you live in a tent or mansion, it means nothing without the love and care you give your children. You’ve smashed it❤🥰
