If you have a pantry with a door without glass you can make a spice rack to hang on the inside that covers most of the door. I made one for mine and it really created much more space in the pantry along with great organizing. I also incorporated a basket for onions and potatoes.

I have a 12" wide upper cabinet for spice jars.. Just made a shallow-depth u-shaped shelf to allow stacking the smaller bottles around the perimeter of the first shelf, two bottles high but one bottle deep. Visible. Accessible. A few taller items (salt/pepper grinders, spray oil can) sit out in the middle, easily reached over. I am so glad to see the back of that stadium bleacher style 3 tiered insert! It was very wasteful of space.

For pots and pans use drawers in the base cabinets. We've had them for years and love them. No more kneeling on the floor to get pots from the back of the cabinet. Besides, it's dark in there.

For pans, I have on of those big open cabinets above the fridge. I fashioned a post and beam out of 2x4 for the spot across in front of the shelf with robust hooks I opened up a bit. Didn't even have to nail it in, used shim wedges. The pans hang across the cabinet. Couple of hooks on the post for lids. Don't really access the stuff in the back much at all and that requires a step stool. But the pans are just within reach to take on and off the hooks without a ladder. For spices, I used hurricane clips and 1 x 1/8 short cutoffs to make a mezzanine around the cabinet just tall enough to hold the tall spice jars or two short ones around the perimeter. Although that still leaves the main shelf to get piled up.

I saw the extended drawer design on Pintrest and have plans to do them in our small kitchen. I like how your design doesnt require drawer hinges. I havent built them yet but plan to do so without the hinges. You made the task a lot easier to understand. Thank you!

Instead of using wax to make drawer organisers slide easier use some thumb tacks on the bottom of the upper one and they will make it slide much easier.

Rockler wooden drawer slides... With a cabinet spice rack that has a plexiglass front and sides. They already have this on the Market, but you can easily build one for half the cost. This will be one of my next kitchen projects for sure. That, and maybe the cutting board holders...

Your plate cabinet reminded me of a cute space-saving trick I stumbled on a while back. I moved stuff in my office and ended up with an extra magazine rack - the kind you put on a book shelf to hold magazines upright. So I re-purposed it to hold my paper plates and make more room in the cabinet.

I used to make lots of stuff out of live edge if you dip it in shellac and let it dry it really helps preserve the lose bark. We’d usually dip it twice and than sand the faces smooth. Great video though always enjoy your content!

I like the idea of pot/pan lid storage, spice storage, and a canned-goods rotation/rack system. Hope to see your interpretation of these ideas. Also, loved the ideas you have shown in this video. I suppose the pot lids, depending on the handle style, could work like wine glass tracks (maybe on the inside of other cabinet doors where the pots are stored?) Thanks for the great ideas.

As a note for your pots and pans. If your Kitchen allows it, your Island would be a good place. Hang small flower pot chains. Then use hooks. Different size hooks for different size pots or pans. Have done this with great results. Out of the way but easy to have ready. Or get a circle one. Have seen these used. Happy wood working April.

When my husband and I remodeled our kitchen, we built in toe-kick drawer underneath our cabinets and the provide a ton of extra storage. I’ve also built sliding stacked silverware trays, which freed one larger to remove so I could replace it with two taller doors to allow for a pull-out pot hanger.
@jimdavis87264 жыл бұрын
for your spices I built a pull out rack in one of our cabinets. I used 3/4 inch ply wood what ever the size that fits in the vertical area of the cabinet and attached a piece a sheet metal to both sides of the plywood. I then cut 4 rails the same depth of the cabinet and attached drawer glides to 2 of the rails and the plywood at the bottom and the other rails were at the top of the cabinet as guide rails for the plywood to slide in between.

Ooh, just in time for me getting rid of so much clutter, and using up the wasted space in my drawers. I have used the idea of doubling up the shelves in the cupboards, but I just used 2 tins of baked beans (the same height) to mark my holes for the pegs..it turned out fine!! 😁 😁

I enjoyed this video very much, and a couple of the ideas I will definitely use. But I have one small critique. Whenever I use pocket screws I try to place the holes where I cant see them. The higher of the natural edge shelves I would have considered putting the screw holes on the top since most people aren't tall enough to see them. Another option would have been to screw the shelves from the inside of the cabinet.

OH! I also increased the depth a couple of my drawers (they're sooo shallow!) by making a new drawer box to put full extension slides on the sides, and then gluing and screwing the new bottom to the bottom of the drawer box so I gained over an inch of depth making the potato masher and ladles fit much better! 4" drawers are way less than that!

A Propane torch will soften the sharp edges of the PLEXIGLASS. Just move the flame quickly over the rough edges and they will shine. Warning - hold the flame too long and the plastic will bubble and warp. If this is your first time - Try it on scrap.

Maybe a idea for the spices, you can make some sort of carrousel with 2 or 3 levels and what can rotate and with the centralpin attached under your cabinets. For the rotating part, you can use the parts for rotating a shelf to support tv's like they use to do back in the old days.
