Hey everyone! The audio quality may be off this video. If you didn't see my most recent community post, during the production of this video, my headphones and microphone decided to die out on me (yay), so editing audio was a bit of a hassle this time. I'll get this fixed ASAP and hopefully this is only a one video thing. Anyways, thanks for sticking around!

I recently did a clean install of Windows 11 and went into it with an open mind after being pretty against the idea of getting it up until that point, and frankly had no interest in it. It was nothing but frustrations, and compromises for me. In my opinion, an OS upgrade should be an improvement of experience overall, and there was pretty much no improvements for how I use my computer aside from minor things like the new Snipping tool and the dark mode implementation on apps like Notepad (I actually prefer the classic Notepad, though). I'll also say that there are elements of the UI that I think look nice, such as the icons and the rounded windows, so I'll give it that, but I genuinely feel that Windows 11 ran less smoothly than Windows 10 always has for me. I don't really have any way to prove this, but I notice very minor things when there's little bits of lag or performance dips or whatever. Maybe it's just my PC, I don't know, but it's only 2 years old. If it weren't for third-party software to "fix" the taskbar, the Windows 11 vanilla taskbar is objectively a downgrade in every way. I don't see how anyone could like it personally. Microsoft took away such basic options that have always been part of Windows since Windows 95 (i.e. showing labels which is something I just don't want to give up), and I find that very hard to just accept as an "upgrade". When I came back to 10 it felt such a huge relief because things just looked good, and worked well again. If Windows 10 were to disappear tomorrow, forcing me back to 11, I can say that I'd definitely be okay with it and adapt because third-party software exists to improve the experience, but after giving it a fair chance, it's just not for me right now. Going back to 10 felt like such a substantial upgrade, and I found it funny that Windows 11 lets you install Windows 10 without saying a message like "You already have a newer version of Windows" like it used to do.

The performance issues with Windows 11 aren't just you. And you don't need to prove it. This has been heavily documented. Machines using Windows 11 generally have slightly worse performance in games and applications. There's plenty of benchmark videos on KZbin comparing Windows 10 to 11. And 10 always comes out above Windows 11.

1: it's an operating system, not a theme park. 2: it's more consistent, but less practical. One example: connecting to a VPN is 2 clicks in W10 and 5 in 11 3: once again I beg to differ. The new taskbar is harder to use, when you have several windows open it involves more clicks to get to the window you want to. The start menu is just a disaster, at this point it's easier to just use a CLI to launch an application One counterpoint why I had briefly considered upgrading: gWSL, the ability to run graphical Linux applications. However this was introduced back in Win 10 in the betas, so not a technological difference, just MS trying to make people change.

Honestly, I upgraded to windows 11 on my Laptop, and it’s great for me. My only issues were issues with the taskbar being annoying and the new frustrating and redundant context menu design. I fixed those issues with a couple of programs, those being retrobar and startisback11. These programs instantly make windows 11 a lot more familiar and easy to use due to the explorer enhancements, and I prefer Windows 11s visual design over windows 10s, so it’s a perfect setup for me.

Really the convenience part of right click on a .7z or .zip file then go to 7-zip to see a list of extraction options is missing from windows 11 even after installing 7-zip. I have to open the file then select the file to extract then tell it where to extract them too. Thankfully it still allows me to make a folder in that window but the convenience part is gone. Another part that is missing is just the way to cut and paste or copy and paste files moved. Thankfully you still can do Ctrl+X and Ctrl+C to cut and copy then Ctrl+V to paste. Unsure of Ctrl+P for print still works as i only have windows 11 in a VM and not connected to a printer. Windows 11 seems to have simplified everything down and the redundancy of windows 10 was good. Having 2 or 3 ways to do 1 thing was good. Thankfully command prompt in user and admin modes are still there with all the commands since Windows 7 too. Taking away IE was a bad thing. It was there for legacy software that is no longer updated. So it broke software and it will be a program that people will add back in. For me really i don't use it but software i use does use it as it is the most compatible between OSes until now. All the devlopment software i use seemed to install correctly and the git clone seemed to download and update correctly. The program compiled correctly so the OS doesn't interfere with software it seems. Still getting to it all was a pain and i ended up just pinning everything to the taskbar instead of trying to use the start thing at all. For an avg consumer use i still would say to pin everything they use to the taskbar as start is almost useless now. Setting got a rearrange again. It was difficult to find the stuff i had to to set up a desktop UI i was used to seeing and interacting with. Still even with it being difficult it was still able to do what i needed it to do. I am thinking if i make Windows 11 the host system i would just make a script to change everything as almost everything needs a change from default in my mind. Thankfully they left alone regedit.exe. It works like it has since windows 95. I replace notepad with notepad++ so no comment on notepad.exe being the same or not. I think I could get used to it if I had to but as I don't have to most likely I will wait for Windows 12 to come and hope it is better than Windows 11.

Before anyone switches over to windows 11 for its features, I feel it's very important to point out that windows 11 takes the "Microsoft wants to know everything about you" problem much farther than windows 10. An Ordinary Gamer made an amazing video on this issue from what I remember. If you enjoy the limited privacy you still have on windows 10, do not switch to 11. Best choice would be to completely move over to linux but linux isn't as user friendly and I can understand why most won't ever use linux.

Windows 11 is just Windows 10 with a new skin for the most part. And some people even go out of their way to revert as much of Windows 11 back to Windows 10 so the system becomes “usable”. Me just have no love for rushing new features for no reason unless I have no other choice, hence I am still using Windows 10. But man, after watching this video I am ALMOST got convinced to upgrade to Windows 11, until I realise how unfun Windows 11 is with the missing of usable right click menu, imo worse start menu (it is a freaking APP!) , less customisation, less feature in Control Panel and Settings, among other reasons.

If you're hellbent on sticking to windows 10 for as long as possible (I've moved on to Linux Mint Cinnamon July 28 2020 and couldn't be happier)..you have the option to put whatever you want dead center ish using a "toolbar folder"> Right click taskbar...unlock it. Create a folder anywhere you want. Then paste or left click drag into that folder any thing you want including separate folders such pictures, documents, etc). Go back to taskbar right click it..move mouse to the arrow over on " New " and you'll see selection show up talking about "create toolbar.folder". When you select that, you can navigate to where that folder is you created that you put whatever you wanted into it.. when you select it and hit ok. ... Then left click on the tiny three vertical dots on the far right hand area of the taskbar.sns hold drag it left..until you have them where you want...you'll see the text and icons of the stuff you added in the folder show up. You can also right click any empty area near those items and untick the " text" and title " to only show the icons although when you mouse over each item....you can still get the pop of what that item was named as. I've done this since the xp days and always have put all the stuff I want one click access to as a centered deal and love it

I upgraded to Windows 11 on launch day (Oct. 5th, 2021) for whatever reason and there were tons of bugs, as probably the most common one, was the audio not working. I had to use a tutorial just to fix it. Lots of bugs. One thing I hated the most was the stripped features. Like not being able to drag a file into a certain program and stuff like that. I used this feature the most in Windows 10 and was disappointed when I found out it was gone in Windows 11. If you didn't know, there was this feature in File Explorer that allowed you to move files with the click of a button, labeled "Move to". It was really convenient and quick and I used it a lot. This isn't a completely negative comment however as I've grown to like Windows 11 as the months went by (Since the bugs were fixed over time) I still don't like the fact that some features were removed that were really convenient but still, It's a decent OS and I have it installed on my main computer and laptop.

I personally probably won't be upgrading because I prefer the look of 10. I tried it but 10 feels more snappy and quick. The file explorer doesn't really bother me, I have the ribbon hidden and just use keyboard shortcuts like F2 to rename, Del to delete, ctrl+c/ctrl+v for copy paste. The animations also feel slow compared to 10, while it adds fluidity to the OS I prefer the animations on 10 because they're quick yet fluid enough like maximizing windows and the start menu opening. Task View in my opinion isn't that great of an upgrade, as I just disabled the activity history/timeline and now it's just a clean simple window overview mode with the multiple desktops at the top. I also don't like the new control center thing, i prefer the dedicated icons for volume, network, etc. Honestly I might switch to Linux after Windows 10 support ends unless if I like Windows 12, but that would have to come out before I switch to Linux. Maybe I might go the KVM virtual machine route if I really need Windows on Linux.

My problems with Windows 11 is it sacrifices potential and freedom for simplicity and looks. Outside of security and future support, I currently don’t see a reason to upgrade to 11, which is not too much better and actually may be worse in some aspects. For people who take gaming seriously, I heard that 11 reduces performance and while that may not (always) be the case, I don’t see 11 itself making gaming better than 10. I also don’t like how MS is forcing us to make MS accounts just to operate our own computer with 11. At this current time, there is no legitimate way to make a local/offline account and MS is even going as far as to try to patch the bypasses to workarounds with people who don’t want to make a MS account. So you have to let MS take your data and if you’re not connected to the internet, there’s going to come a time where you won’t be able to use your computer period. Overall, I don’t recommend 11. The extra security is nice, but it’s not worth sacrificing my freedom, data, and lack of reason to upgrade to 11 when 10 is just as good if not better as far as usability is concerned. I genuinely hope a future update or even Windows 12 will make this comment of mine redundant in the future, but for now that’s my view.
@zurkke
@zurkke Жыл бұрын
There's no extra security whatsoever, just Microsoft doing Microsoft things at scaring you to use their latest services. And yes, performance is worse, I saw visible difference not only in that, but also higher temps, bigger RAM usage by useless processes and services in the background, etc. I gave up and went back to 10, LTSC version. Yeah, just ignoring the fact that it has poor compatibility, less out of the box features, heavily focused on command line, arguably worser looking ui, and is slower than Windows on modern hardware.

@@thebestgamer5248 the UI issues can be fixed by switching to a different de aka Desktop Environment. Linux is not slower on modern hardware or on old hardware unless you bloat it with say, GNOME DE. Most of the time it's the opposite. Linux is lightweight. Also the command line is inevitable. Just learn how to use it in the same way you learned how to use the start menu when it changes all the time. Also Android phones use the Linux kernel. The web basically runs on Linux. The "compatibility issues" are with windwoes apps. Get WINE, Bottles, Lutris, PlayOnLinux, Proton, some dxvk support, and done! So stfu, you clearly don't know what you are talking about. The command line is NOT scary, in fact you can try to avoid it most of the time and only use it as a back up. Learn how to use your damn computer. It's much easier to tell someone to plug a command into their command line rather than Open this... Click that... Exit this app... Then you find out they opened the wrong app. Less out of box features? No way not! I can change almost anything to my liking. You want a windows feature? Well I'm pretty sure it's possible!

4-finger gestures, really ? I'm not fu**ing octopus ! 😂😂😂😂 And I really dont like the new start menu in Win 11. Its really big mess compared to 8.1 and even 10 ... Why they got rid of live tiles 😭. I liked them so much ... Its looking like I'll still gonna stay with 8.1 and 10 at my computers ... Its uncomfortable for touch users to click on small icons instead of clicking on big tiles ...

i upgraded to windows 11 on my laptop when it first came out, i was getting horrible battery performance after installing windows 11 on it (battery life literally got halved). Had waited a couple of months to see if they fixed the issue as a lot of people had the same problem as me but they didn't. Also, the overall OS feels significantly slower and i don't know why but scrolling through the file manager feels really laggy on windows 11. Again, though that it would be fixed in a couple of months but it wasn't so i ultimately had to switch back to windows 10. Microsoft purely focussed on making windows 11 "aesthetically pleasing" and overlooked the fact that the os itself is pure garbage.

Dude, You should Move to Windows 8.1 from your Windows 10 since it’s way lighter and better than 10. Windows 8.1 gets updates until 2023 so you can upgrade to Windows 10 by then. Windows 11 is only a 1 year old OS, like Windows 10 were almost no different than Windows 8.1 but more fancier and some more stuff to do. Microsoft removed Tiles for desktop too. And Windows 8.1 were the same as Windows 7 itself which Windows 7 looked and still looks like Windows Vista.
