Hi, I am 76 years young, I started low carb because I am a type 2 diabetic who was on medication which wasn’t keeping my blood sugar in check, my numbers were always 160, 200, even a few times 300. If I’m honest though, what I realized was, I would eat all the carbs thinking the meds will take care of it, which of course was wrong. I got to a point when I could not afford $559.00 for a 30 day supply of meds, and thought what do I do now? So, I did some research, found you and Dr Jason Fung, learned so much about how the body works, started very low carb, and immediately for me, my numbers came down, it proved to me it was what I was eating that was my biggest problem! My weight is not a problem now, the weight chart says 126 for my highest weight, I am 5 foot 2 inches, I weigh 136, so going by that, I have 10 pounds to lose still. My blood sugar runs in the 80’s and 90’s mostly now, I have proven to myself it’s definitely what I was eating. I will never go back to carbs, it’s one of the hardest things I have ever done, but one of the most rewarding in terms of my health. Thank you for all of your sound, reliable information!

And isn't it so infuriating that had you not discovered the Keto lifestyle change, nobody would have likely pointed you in the right direction. More importantly, the medical approach would've been completely the wrong approach. Glad you found the 'correct' path.

Same. Hashimoto (on NP Thyroid), Graves, insulin resistance, had trouble tolerating gluten/grains, a carb addict, aching muscle and joints, fatigued, etc. I've been keto 10 months and feel better than ever. Giving up carbs/gluten/ sugar has given me my life back. I no longer have aches or fatigue, and my mind is so much clearer. I've also lost 27 stubborn pounds. Prior to keto, I couldn't lose 5 pounds and keep it off!! Low carb is a life saver.

I am solid evidence of a low-carb diet being super-essential, beneficial for joint, muscle, bone health. I had a severe brain injury in October of 1994, was in the hospital about 6 months, out-patient rehab for 6 more. My main 2 residuals were/are slurred speech and very challenged balance. Both have gotten better, or maybe I've learned how to work them better. But I used to fall ALL THE TIME. I somehow noticed when I lost weight (I had lost 5 lbs for some reason) that my falls were less consequential. So I scanned the Internet for weight loss and came upon DB almost immediately. She became my mentor. She advised me to lose about 5 lbs. (I was already at an okay weight.) I did by following her advice, low-sugar and -carbs. My falls still happened, but I bounce back up unbelievably well (as Keith sited). Now, more than 25-years later, I still occasionally fall, but not as much and it's absolutely no big. Usually. And, I was one of the first people to join DB's Freedom program. And I love it. And you 2 Fit Docs. Thanks for everything!

Hello! I've noticed improvements in my skin and joints and weight loss of course. However, the most impressive difference/improvement that will keep me keto for life is the fact that my asthma is not a controlling factor in my life anymore. I used to need an inhaler multiple times a day to the point where I wouldn't even walk the dogs without one in my pocket. Now I have a disk (Advair?) that I was using twice a day and now maybe twice a week. I don't even think about it. Even things that used to cause me allergies have no affect on me anymore. I know most people, myself included begin with wanting to lose weight ( I was 206 lbs) and couldn't shake it no matter what I did. I am now around 123 pounds and feel like my health belongs to me again. As I continue -- for the moms -- I am noticing improvements in my stretchmarks and sagging belly (4 kids) not disappearing but genuinely improving. :) I wish I knew about this 30 years ago.

Going low carb was the best thing I ever did. In Nov 18 I was 195 lbs at 5'7, with triglycerides over 400, A1c at 7 . Primary care dr put me on Metformin, which made me ill. So I looked up type II diabetes on youtube, found you guys among others that promoted Keto. So I did my homework (i have a BS/MS in biology and chemistry as well as Pharmacy). Quickly realized I had to go low carb and went all in. I year later, I was at 150lbs (decided to stay there), Triglycerides down to 60, HDL up to 90. But the best thing is no inflammation , (had chronic Achilles tendinitis), and focus and memory greatly improved (i am in my early 60's). So just do it!

The most surprising thing for me has been a drastic improvement in my dental health. I've had bone grafts, root canals, and have a couple of implants; I was on a quarterly cleaning schedule to help preserve what I have left. For the past 3 or 4 visits the hygienist has remarked at how "perfect" my teeth are. Yesterday they said "let's schedule you four months out and if all goes well, we can probably go to a six month schedule." Now THAT is a positive change that makes me very happy! Thanks for another great video, Docs!

I made hubby breakfast and supper on Father's Day. The only thing that was keto was the broccoli salad with supper. I had more carbs in that one day period than I have had on any other day, in ages. The next day, I couldn't get out of bed until 1 in the afternoon from the pain in my joints. I slept and did a LOT of stretching to just be able to get out of bed. Hubby asked what was wrong and he was shocked to find out the little amount of food I had the day before had that much effect on me. Keto is great for getting rid of inflammation! He now truly understands why I am so strict about what I eat. (I'm not a reach for a pill kind of person unless I really have to)

From a doctor, about 20 years ago, I learned that a lack of nutrients is one thing that causes hair to turn gray. So it makes sense that when we eat less nutrient deficient carbs , we likely eat more nutrient rich vegetables, and that makes for no gray in our hair. Another thing for me is taking a good probiotic, one that has to be refrigerated. Probiotics helps us absorb more nutrients from the food we eat. I am 60 1/2 and still have my dark hair! (My husband is 62, takes the probiotic and still has his dark hair, too) All my friends either color their hair or are gray. They just don’t believe that diet has anything to do with it. One friend, 6 years my junior, was gray since her 30s and has always eaten mostly junky food and she has had several bad health issues. I am in good health and take no medicines. Good numbers every check up. We eat REAL food, not processed junk and we cook at home, so we can control ingredients.

I had eaten way too many during the stay at home time and I could feel the blood sugar issues returning, the cravings for more carbs, sweets, etc. It was horrible. It has taken me about 2 weeks to get back on track. I couldn't do my intermittent fasting without feeling lightheaded and dizzy. I am finally not craving more snacks carby foods or sweets. I upped my veggies and healthy fats like butter and olive oil. Feel so much better mow. Great video 2 Fit Docs!

Can you do an episode on how Dr. Keith is dealing with a damaged metabolism from years of insulin resistance. Do you think your metabolism can be repaired through Keto by making your cells sensitive to insulin again or do we need to accept the damage to our system and make permanent dietary and lifestyle changes?

Minimal hot flashes/flushes, if any at all. I also take DIM to help, but I noticed that if I do eat refined carbs, the hot flushes increase. Used to crave ice cream but no more cravings. I occasionally make a frozen avocado smoothie if I want something like ice cream.

Hi , I loved your video I have been on low carb no sugar for a few months now and I have lost 8 kilos, sure it was hard at first but much easier now, I feel great I found your video very informative, I was astonished at the connection to skin tags, I have a few which I am looking forward to watch disappear now, once again thanks .

I thought that giving up bread was going to be a nightmare. However, I got myself an almond flour based 'flatbread' recipe and that does the trick. It's very low carb and it's a delicious filler for one of my two meals.

Hi guys, a little background about me. I just turned 65 weight around 180 dealing with diabetes for 27 years and in remission for stage four cancer. I exercise three days a week with weights and hitting the heavy bag. When you said 125 carbs was a good starting point I couldn't disagree more. I was told by a dietician that eating 240 carbs a day was a good thing. Gee I wonder why I put on so much weight. It wasn't until I had my heart attack and nearly twenty stay in ICU I switch to IF and eating less carbs of around 60 per day or less. I switched to keto and got my weight at one point down to 165. Now I am back to 180. My biggest problem is around my waist where I am pretty solid every place else.

having type 2 and lowering my carbs has put my blood sugar under total control. It is not hard to do basically all you are doing is eating normally and cutting crappy bread, pasta, rice and junk food.

Do you believe in increasing your metabolic flexibility by adding a “Boost Day” of carbs every so often?
@getter_done4 жыл бұрын
Darren N I personally add in some healthy starchy carbs every 2 or 3 weeks (one meal). I realize not everyone agrees with this, I understand this fully. I think some doctors say this is okay.

You guys are great! Question: have you evaluated the difference between walking as exercise vs the gym and weight training in getting the keto numbers to go up? Low vs high impact? I'm seeing vastly different results and it makes me curious.

What's your opinion of very dry champagne once in a while? BRUT
@charlesherrick74004 жыл бұрын
Great question, so here is the Google answer..."If champagne isn't your style, clear liquors (think hard liquor: vodka, tequila, gin, etc.) at about 40% alcohol will likely be your best bet, these are considered “Keto alcohol.” They have no residual sugar, so no carbs. ... Choose a brut or dry champagne, drink responsibly, and celebrate."

charles herrick How about some wine and how much if possible. Would a bottle be ok.?
@HombianceByTerri4 жыл бұрын
@@jasonkilbourn8159 It depends on the wine; the drier, the better. There tend to be 4 to 5 carbs in a glass of wine, if I remember correctly. The biggest detriment is that your body immediately stops burning all other sources of fuel and spends its energy burning off the alcohol, which is a toxin to the body. Any food you consume will likely be stored as fat while the body is burning off the alcohol. All that said, I love wine, but it does halt my weight loss, so I limit it to only a glass or two when I do choose to have some.

For decades I had patches of keratosis pilaris on my upper arms. After having been on a keto diet for nearly a year, one day I suddenly noticed the skin on my upper arms was smooth, with no signs I ever had keratosis pilaris.

You will also save money. I find cutting carbs has curbed my hunger tremendously. I can eat two, and sometimes one big healthy meal and feel satisfied all day long. I put the extra savings into buying high quality grass fed meats and organic veggies.

Question! When I started Keto and lost seven pounds, pimples, or maybe hives, popped up all over my face, neck, and chest. Pimple-sized, but itchy, and no whiteheads. I've heard that toxins are stored in fat cells, is that true, and did that seven-pound weight loss release some toxins?

Good information. I like the comments re low-carb at under 125 grams of carbohydrate. Not everyone needs to be under 20 grams. Eating these carbs with or just after the major evening meal is a strategy that works for some. Not me, mind you: I run better eating nothing till the afternoon, and then beginning caloric intake with (near) pure fats, as in a keto-coffee (butter, MCT) and/or 100% (no sweetener) cacao bar; my steak in the later afternoon (4pm); a whey shake (or three-egg and whey mug cake) about an hour or two later. At 60 y/o, after losing 120 lbs. on a beef-heavy low carb, calorie-restricted diet, have maintained the weight loss for a year eating this way. On the other hand, my wife, who never had the weight to lose, maintains her 125 lb. shape eating most of her 100 grams of carbs with/after the evening meal; she will eat eggs or chicken, walnuts-and-sauerkraut when she needs something earlier in the day, then in the early evening beef and some veg before the sweet potato and frozen mango.
