I was at the skatepark yesterday and there was a rather heavy guy, likely 200-230 LBS in his late 30s or early 40s who was in a flat area practising ollies and kickflips repeatedly for two hours. When I left to go to work, he was *still* there, and now jumping onto ledges. I am 215 and lean, and only wish I was as good as this guy! Work at it folks... if someone who is over 200 LBS with a beer belly can do this so well, anyone can learn!!

weed nose practicing during quarantine is the best because less people will see you fall (it’s totally normal to fall but some people stay away from it because of that aspect, so think about it less people are out so less will see you fall, and the less nervous you are the less you actually do fall so it all works out) plus once quarantine IS over then youll look like an OK amateur instead of a newbie at the skatepark because u got all the practice in :) i suggest doing it in ur neighborhood or streets/alleys and stuff and if ur roads are as sloped and cracked as mine and it makes u too nervous (it did for me at first when i got back into skating but im used to it now) then find basketball&tennis courts in ur area and skate on those, tennis ones in particular will be softer landings and they will be emptier places than skateparks n parking lots will. hope this helps :)

@RikRiorik
@RikRiorik 4 жыл бұрын
I had my ”click” today. When things just locked in place for me. Started trying to skateboard now 10 months ago after only trying it as a kid. Been trying to do ollies on and off for 7 months or so but not really intensely. But for about the last two months I’ve been doing it a bit more intensely. But have been a bit terrified since I’ve managed to injure the same wrist twice in a week so been afraid to commit fully and slip out and land with the same wrist again. Today though I landed 18 rolling ollies in a row. Some a bit sketchy for sure but some that were probably the best I’ve ever done. Overall the pop sounded so crisp today. The slightly delayed slide felt so good and on point. I really felt the board level out. The difference between my old ollies is that now I felt and percieved the entire motion from start to end almost in slow motion in comparison to just landing before with no clear idea of how I ended up there.

been doing the same, but since september been really practicing every day. and i can relate to this. i have done a few now where it was like slow motion i actually had time to process and feel my foot leveling me out. Before it was all over in a blink and i could never be consistent or work out why it was good or bad that time. There are many factors to ollie i guess, it just takes different amounts of time for the timing to click in your head.
@RikRiorik

@@ThisIsDownstate love it! Yeah I find you’re constantly finding some little thing that’s part of the bigger picture to work on be it height, stability, keeping straight or just levelling out. Or any number of things connected to these. Keep practicing is really the best advice. Enough attempts and eventually you’ll start figuring it out.

It's easier moving due to the forward momentum. To beginners, everything seems easier stationary because there is less of a risk of falling. It is easier to level out an ollie stationary than it is while moving. Slightly.

Your advice about working on perfecting smaller ollies is working wonders for me. It's helping me really get down the form and movements required that I've been weak on. Also really focusing on kicking forward with my front foot to level it out. Thanks! Im a mom and sometimes feel like I should give it up because it's weird for a mom to skate but that feeling of popping a solid ollie is just too good to give up. Any tips on working up to ollies up and off curbs? I've never been able to overcome my fear of ollies anywhere other than flat ground.

The "tackle small Ollies" tip really helped me out -- For some reason, in my head, the science of performing an Ollie while moving doesn't quite compute at this moment, but with that tip in mind I am able to consistently Ollie (small ones so far), and now, I can pop the board while moving without compeletely losing it the moment I pick up my knees. I am now more confident than ever that I can finally learn to get over curbs at speed. Even the good how-to videos don't stress the importance of the little Ollie. I don't comment on KZbin Videos but you, sir, deserve the credit where it's due. You rock! 🤘🏽

My issue is commitment. I'm so tense when I try to Ollie on concrete that I can't commit. If I could just get passed that I would be able to Ollie great. But again I just started skating 1 week ago. So I got some skater trainers and I'm going to just practice riding getting comfortable on my board and pushing. Try Ollie's later.

Matt Peak I have been skating for about a month now and I am still learning the Ollie. But suddenly when I woke up this week I couldnt ollie, it was like I lost all progress. When did u get comfortable with your ollies? Thanks
@mattpeak2226
@mattpeak2226 3 жыл бұрын
@@jetmak6975 about 5 months to learn it rolling. Don't learn it stationary it's a waste of time TRUST me. Start rolling slow. Baby steps. Skating is VERY VERY hard and takes a VERY long time. But to your point about waking up and losing all progress, that's totally normal. Happens all the time. To everyone. Even Nyjah. You didn't lose any progress brother trust me. It's all in your head. In fact I just had one of those days last week. I couldn't even ollie. But I found a way to fix it and it's all mental. You have to completely zero in man. Totally focused on you and your board and nothing else. Push yourself with each and every single ollie. Literally try your hardest each and every single time. Think about everything. From squatting lower to lifting your front leg higher and popping that back leg harder. Think about and visualize every thing that you do. You can make bad days a learning experience. But man the biggest piece of advice I can give you is something every skater will tell you because it's true and the ONLY way to get good is do not give up. Keep going no matter what. Skating is so hard and takes SOOO LOOONG to get good at. With time you'll get more comfortable and confident on your board. It just takes a long time man. Keep at it!!

So I learned to skate when I was 8, just pushing goofy for 2 years, and got very comfortable. When I was 10 I started to learn tricks, and I have absolutely no idea how I made this mistake but I learned my ollies regular, and never did them rolling. When I saw the problem, I started to learn pushing regular but over the years I never fully got comfortable, most likely to me skating on and off for 6 years. All I learned in 6 years was better board control and higher ollies riding regular. Now 16, I finally decided to just say fuck it and I’m just relearning ollies goofy instead of regular and it’s a real damn struggle

also i have a little tip. when you are pushing your front foot forward to balance the board dont think of it as a slide. try to do the pop and front foot forward together in 1 motion. and sometimes it doesnt work because your back foot is on the board so it cant go higher. so try to jump as high as you can (try to jump and bringing your knees to your chest)

I had that same problem trying to ollie while moving after I got it down while in a crack and on carpet it turns out I wasn't sliding my foot very much at all and after I worked on that it was fixed. So I would suggest putting more emphasis in to sliding your front foot. Thats what worked for me!

So do you know the song that says slide to the left, slide to the right, okokok so when you do your pop depending on if you're goofy or not which im not so when i ollie, i go down bend my knees, come up and pop my foot at the top height of my jump and SLIDEEEEEE TO THE LEFT well its more like jumping with the ollie

I think what really helps when learning how to ollie while moving is to do what number 3 says. Try to do smaller ollies first to get control, and then when you do have the control, practice getting them higher.

I have a major tip for anyone still struggling. I used to not be able to get my back wheel off the ground at all and it was mainly all because I didn't pop hard enough (due to me being scared to pop hard for some reason and that could of gone alot easier if I was already comfortable on my board) and I also did the foot drag motion somewhat but I only dragged it up a little or bearly at all. I also had the timing all wrong because I kind of took it like steps (pop, drag, land) but really its just supposed to be all at one motion. I finally got my ollies off the ground after getting educated about them and really understanding the proper way to do them. It wasn't just that but it took me a lot of practice and I mean alot like 3 hours a day straight. PRACTICE IS VERY IMPORTANT TRUST ME IT PAYS OFF AND I LEARNED THAT. but annyways here is a list of things you should know for your ollies: 1. Bend your knees and use them as a spring when you jump 2. Actually jump while doing the motion 4. Think of the pop as a flick of your foot 5. Think of dragging first, because the pop is really quick and it will happen if you know how to do this correctly. (This works for me when I think about it because it helps me always get the timing right but it doesn't work for everybody) 6. When all 4 wheels are in the air push down the foot that you dragged down to the ground, while lifting the other foot that you popped. 7. Alot of vids or ppl dont mention this but the drag foot placement before you ollie is super important. If you are a bit taller put the foot you drag with closer to the foot you pop with. If you are shorter like me put the foot you drag with further away from the foot you pop with. (BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOUR FOOT YOU USE TO DRAG IS STILL CLOSE TO THE MIDDLE) 8. Land each foot on the bolts 9. If this still doesn't work go back to the simple motions of pop, drag, and land and keep on doing them over and over. The best advice I can give to you is to practice you will get it eventually and be consistent like do it everyday even if you just try 10 a day you will see some improvement in a week. If you have any questions feel free to reply!! Have a good day/night YALL CAN DO THIS I BELEIVE IN YOU🤗🙃

@agentnukaz1715 6 жыл бұрын
IAN DAVIDSON Sounds like you need to stay centered over the board and stick your foot out or pull it up so it doesn't hit the board. Ball of your foot should be near the edge of the board behind the bolts, do an Ollie and flick at the conclave, keep your leg out until it's done flipping. If you get credit carded, your not sliding your foot up the board like an ollie.

In case it helps anyone, the game changer for me when transitioning from stationary ollies to moving ollies was to lean my weight on my front foot while doing the moving ollie. I think stationary ollies conditioned me to put most of my weight on my back foot because I was thinking about the pop a lot. If you feel like your board is going to shoot out from under you forward when doing moving ollies, try leaning your weight on your front foot before popping.

if you want to ollie higher then put your front foot further back from the front bolts, skate a bit faster than you are comfortable with, and when you go to slide your front foot make sure you roll your ankle and slide your front foot up the board as aggressive as possible.. Also, to get better quicker, make yourself ollie over something. Pick something that is taller than you are comfortable with and dont stop till you do it. if youre like me skateboarding doesnt come naturally like it does for these instagram kids so you gotta be stubborn and force it. i have been skating for 2 years now and im still practicing my ollies everyday.. you can do it if you put in the work. Cheers john!
