from the perspective of a consumer, i dont care for graphics as much as i do a uniquely constructed garment. that leads me to purchase items from Yohji. Smaller brands that accomplish this are Adam Small and Somar. i do enjoy Paynestar who does more work with graphics but the cuts are still very well designed. anyways focus more on the garment than the graphic.

Don’t follow trends. Focus on creating timeless garments & graphics. Design with that mindset💡 designing to follow the latest trends takes away from being creative and original in the first place. You have to identify your logo from the jump so people can get familiar with seeing it in my opinion. I understand what your saying like why would someone just buy ur logo but I think thats where the marketing comes in, for example supreme the name alone is luxurious which is appealing.

great video and a lot of good valid points. however, i do disagree with a few. but as stated, it’s all opinionated. for one, logo tees will never go out of style for any brand. they are timeless. my brand has less than 1k followers and logo tees are my 2nd most popular item and my number 1 most requested item to restock. i think if you have a good logo, you don’t need much brand identity when starting out. logo tees are also a cheaper option when starting out. second, i agree the butterfly thing is overused but i think it should be more for brands that have nothing to do with that aesthetic that need to stop using it. you can tell when it’s a fiverr idea they had or if it actually identifies the brand. lastly, finally someone agrees with the statue tees. i’ve hated those since the first time i seen them! side note tho, there are many giant brands whos whole identity is bootlegs, so as much as i agree with you, i don’t see that going anywhere anytime soon.

To add, avoid as much as possible to follow the trend of ian connor, and his sicko brand. many of the start-up streetwear brands look very similar today. as my college professor says, a brand is the reflection and essence of the owner or designer, don't turn your essence into something universal just to follow trends.

Gotta agree with the ian connor's sicko part, copies are getting way too generic. Although I disagree with not following trends, it's an excellent way to generate sales for your brand but of course, do it without sacrificing your brand identity.

@@IntuitiveDesigns Sure bro, there are trends that someone can apply to your brand, for example vintage finishes, worn with the effect of cracked silkscreen, as in the t-shirts of the 90s. but applying to a vision of your brand. We see that in brands like hellstar and others, but there are trends that people copy exactly and that are like the main insignia of the brand they are copying, for example Ian Conor with the girl's t-shirt and his logo or the futuristic and Indian type of typography. Then it is no longer inspiration but a reproduction of someone else's vision and concept, and this is what happens with most brands in the USA nowadays. Besides tiktok as a prime mover. Where thousands of videos are published with these trends, then everyone follows the same. In the end the brands that do something very different are the ones that grow exponentially and take over the industry.

graphic tees/hoodies are the basis for starting a clothing brand. it is cheaper and more cost-efficient, it's just how it's always been. once you scale up and you get some cash flowing in, then you can experiment with cut and sew. you should know custom pieces cost a lot to produce (even for samples) too if you're a designer.
