Shurikens actually were more of a distraction weapon than killing weapon. They’d throw them at enemy’s eyes a lot of the time. They would sometimes dip them in poison or even let them rust, so the enemy would get an infection though. Badass weaponry.

This only accounts for hiragata shuriken or flat shuriken. These are easier to throw, and can be given to anyone. They can cut, but impalement and lethality is unlikely. Even still, they are even banned in many countries. The more lethal, were the bo shuriken or straight/stick shuriken. These are closer to throwing nails. Though there are many varieties, if you give a professional each one, they can be more lethal with bo shuriken. Since no power is wasted in rotation they can penetrate deeper. Though it can be lethal, it is still better to use it as a secondary weapon. I hope that helps!

While I get the appreciation for"rare" weapons, for $2,000.00 you can buy a great plasma cutter, a grinding wheel, a drill press, a jig saw, and enough steel to make everything you've shown so far, with the capability to make much more for very little once you have made that first big investment in tools. Circular saw blades are really good material for this type of DIY project, and it's very easy to make a locking mechanism like the"rarest" one you showed, basically by having a circular hole in one blade, a square hole in the 2nd blade and a wing nut to tighten it down. I have always loved throwing stars, knives and axes, but I have found that I get so much joy from designing and making my own, it's amazing what you can do if you just believe you can.

I used to mess around with shurikens and nunchucks back in high school...didn't know they actually had throwing competitions with them. Very cool! Used to either buy shurikens at the local flea market or from Asian World of Martial Arts (which is still in business, by the way). I wasn't any good-I threw at trees a couple times then I was done. Not due to fatigue or boredom, but because they would all be lost in the woods in about 10 minutes. At least I never bought any of value Then I broke out the nunchucks. After I whomped myself a few times I figured it was time to go inside. I wasn't very savvy with the martial arts weapons to say the least.....but dammit I tried. Anybody wanting to whip me would just need to hand me a pair of nunchucks... I'd kick my own ass. Very cool video. You've spent many hours practicing as it shows! I bet you've lost your share of throwing stars over the years! Hard to believe two pieces of steel and a threaded knob is worth $1k... wow.
