Engaging in self awareness... does feeling guilty about saying something in a way that was misunderstood but you already apologized and they understood but you still feel terrible about it count? I think it’s Self awareness but it’s not forgiving myself!
@kenny-nk5db4 жыл бұрын
Sarah Stevens I think that would count as self awareness. you feel guilty about what you said, even though the other person understands. as long as you’ve recognized what you need to focus on more in your friendship and how you can improve it, then yes i think that’s self awareness.

Aww... your a good person even when nobody stands with YOU. You still stand with OTHERS. But you need to talk to your friends how you feel otherwise they won’t know
@maciejkleszczynski98084 жыл бұрын
Friendship like any other relationship is a form of transaction. Not of money, but of things like entertaiment, emotional support, status in a group, attention etc. Some parts of these are more valuable to ones and other to others. If you are giving something for free that may indicate three things: 1. You take joy in giving other people stuff and that is enough for you.-->Noone bothers to give you anything in return unless that makes them feel better about themselfs. 2. You are in a sense "rich" and dont really bother giving people stuff you have enough of already.-->Noone bothers to give you anything unless they think they may get something else such as status in a group. 3. You have bad products and are desperate to sell anything by lowering prices. (Nobody knows your products batter than you after all, so if you think they are worth nothing it is safe to assume they are.)-->Noone who cares about their status or longer term relationships wants to trade with you unless they feel pity for you and helping you would give them enough joy. . Concepts such as unconditional love basiacally mean a situation in which a person takes enough joy in making another person happier that they dont need anything else in return, but following such an idea;istic concepts leads to toxicity in a long term. You wouldnt want to be in a relationship where the other person doesnt even pay attention to you nor supports you emotionally, isnt funny or whatever else you could actually like in a person. The concept most likely exists as a simplified version of "a person doesn't care about money, status or inconsistancy in your behaviour", but that sentence is just my guess. . Edit: The 3 examples apply only to situations in which you are not in a long term friendship already./you dont exchange stuff with that person. If you are already in a friendship it may just be that somone doesnt know or doesnt want to trade a product you are interested in and only gives you something like entertainment while you need emotional support. In those situations you need to tell them you would like to trade this kind of product or find another friend with whom you trade that. You do not need to trade the same things with everyone you know. One person may want entertainment for entertainment, the other emotional support for giving them attention and that is ok. Everybody is diffrent and should be treated accordingly.

Ngl, I started tearing up when watching this video. I had a close friend of 8 years that we end up going through a nasty breakup (in terms of friendship) because she decided to talk shit behind my back. I remember I did my best to be there. Listen to the same things over and over while trying to give my insight. It wasn’t enough so she had to talk shit about me when I talked to her about my feelings (while feeling vulnerable). Going through it, helped me realize how important it is to be grateful and to be a better person to others who are worth it. I want to always be a great person to my friends and family. Yeah this is making me tear up because I never was this opened till now and this video gave me hope that I can keep moving forward. Thanks.

For someone to qualify as a true friend in my book, they should be a good listener, they should comfort me when I'm either sad, stressed, frustrated, scared of something, or if I'm mentally unwell, they should respect my thoughts, my feelings and my opinions. And most importantly, they must be invested in being around me and not be jealous when I hang out with someone else or when I achieve something.

@user_name35tdekb43 жыл бұрын
Just needed to point this out. Being a good friend doesn't always mean saying "YES" to everything. Trust me, I've done that. I always thought that I'd be a bad friend if I didn't help them out. And it's partially true. You gotta help your friends. But, you gotta know when to say no. If you keep on saying yes, they will take advantage of you. This doesn't necessarily mean they are a bad friend and it's not usually because they want to take advantage of you, but it's because you gave them a chance to take advantage of yourself. So say "yes" to your friends but always know when to say "no". TL;DR : Don't always be a people pleaser

I was once friends with a person with BPD. We had a really beautiful friendship until the day she lashed out on me and I had a terrible reaction. I panicked and felt overwhelmed by her attack. I told her I didn't want to speak to her again. I finally calmed down and we talked though it, but after that conversation, she vanished. I think we were both to blame, but I know it was for the better. The breakup made me value and cherish my other friendships more than ever. You know what to work on. Ask yourself why do you have this kind of relationship with yourself and take your time to deal with each aspect you list. Next time your thoughts navigate towards any aspect you already listed you are going to use arguments that already worked agaisnt it. If they dont work it means you need to reflect on that aspect from a diffrent angle. If you find new thought patterns that put you in this state repeat the process on them. I am sure you can do this and feel better about yourself again. The process may not be fast but it is effective. Good luck! :)

Great video! I have a few friends I'm blessed to have in my life. I've always supported them and they've done the same foe me. I do care about them and I think what makes me a good friend is that I listen, understand, and really see their perspectives in life. I love communicating with them. Sometimes I check up on them and they do the same for me. I think having a good friendship is nice to have. You can grow, interact, and appreciate the ones you love. Nothing is perfect but good friendships are a blessing! My advice the friends that DO care and vice versa are worthy for a lifetime.

Honesty. Thank you so much for validating that honesty is a core component for a healthy friendship. I've noticed some "friends" had a habit of lying when they really didn't have to lie. Those lies weren't harmful so I kinda ignored them until a series of incidents happened that they caused and they try to get away with it. I've always practiced honesty and tried to be very tactful when confronting them, but they either became downright rude, fake apologise or force me to apologise to them when I caught them red-handed. And it's always me or someone else's fault, they were never to blame even when it's clearly their fault. And it's really unhelpful to have low self esteem due to relationship issues, so I consulted a few trusted people outside of this "friends" circle. All confirmed that I had tried my best, very willing to improve myself if I really did anything wrong. Heck I even apologised to one of them for giving me trouble! Cause I understood my part in contributing towards the incident, but this doesn't erase the fact that they're the one who caused it. Three attributes that these "friends" didn't have bcos they refuse to genuinely reflect on themselves, admit their wrongdoings, let alone improve themselves. And they shift the blame all the time!!!! So many excuses and nonsensical logic!!!! So I door slammed those "friends" damn hard, and again my low self esteem and self criticizing tendencies kicked in for letting those people in, and for having have to kick them out. I hate myself. Damn those poisonous creatures. People who love playing the victim can go f*** themselves. Thank you again for making me realize that habitual liars, dishonesty and blame-shifting should not exist in a healthy relationship.

Maybe YOU are the problem.. sorry but it might be the truth. Lots of people are blind to their own mistakes. Lots of people tend to think of themselves as the “perfect” person and that they are “such a great friend” or that they are “so truthful” and “real.” People tend to think of themselves as something wonderful and always put the blame on everyone else around them. A lot of people tend to pity themselves.

I just got back in contact with a friend of mine after 3 years. Within that span I had gone through some rough stuff and had become a more humble person by practicing self awareness to get through it. I noticed it effected me some, but my friend told me that (and he had no idea what I had gone through) although we had been good buddies, he now felt like I was becoming his best friend. It was surprising, but felt really rewarding to hear that I was making a difference not only for myself, but for others as well! Give it a shot!

I wish I could just show up more tho bc I know they miss me and I miss them so so so much but I just need to be alone right now. I've been alone for months now and it's not that I am scared to be social, but I'm just still working on myself and I dont wanna accidentally hurt anyone while I'm still hurting somewhere deep inside. I'm just done putting on masks and I told them the truth about how I need to get my shit together before making plans to sit down and hang out with a friend for an hour or two or more. There's only like 3 people I really have the energy for and even with them they know I need my space if I'm not constantly talking to them.

I'm thankful that I have a real best friend in my life. True friends need not be prompt in replying to you but when they do they always make you feel so loved. Talking with them is the best feeling in the world. One important thing to remember is we all have our own lives. And they can have their exams and deadlines. So please don't be mad at them promptly. Also don't forget to pour your love on them.

I always seem to attract toxic friends that take advantage of my kindness. I think it's important to be self aware of what you want out of a friend and understand boundaries so you're being a loyal friend but not being used for their benefit.

Being a good friend requires someone to enjoy silence, have gratitude for themselves and their friend. I think what makes an excellent friend is to be honest, making an effort to reconcile and see them at their best, and also to be independent too. Being indepedent and loving your own company is a fantastic way to be a great friend. & a really excellent friend will never make you prove how great you are as a friend. I am enough as a friend, and jsut being myself is enough.

I try to be a good friend,, and I think I am. but sometimes I can be harsh towards my friends (I dont actually say anything) but they often are upset and need my help, which is okay because life happens! but sometimes I get fed up with it and I get mad that they need my help again... I always feel bad for getting mad at them because Its not their fault at all they have problems.

So basically, 1. You engaged in self-awareness 2. You practice forgiveness (to yourself and others) 3. You listen well 4. You display a commitment to friendship 5. You are honest makes you a good friend. And then after all this you get betrayed and being boss around by your friends. And then try to forgive them everytime and at some point you give up, and decided to end the friendship. Then she or he called u a bad friend. _.

A good friend is a hard bed, able to relied on to help you through the darkest nights, but still able to not let you sleep through the morning. They are your railing in the storms on which to clutch, but they do not allow themselves to become your crutch. They are your whetstone, only opposing you that you may become sharper, more useful, and more dependable. They see the light and warmth of your flame and they feed you to be a light to be appreciated by more. They seek to put you on the height, but only when you shine so bright as to illumine all the world. And they give you the gift of performing all of the above for them. For sometimes, I find, that serving others is what we really need, no matter how minute or small the task may be.
