I would say, for the Si side, that the comparison is not blunt, but rather that Si doesn't want to be deluded by the "shiny" aspects. The focus is on what stays consistent through time.

Oh Em Gee! I love the shiny aspects as an INFP! lol. But I also wish I could stay more consistent with everyday things, especially for the sake of improvement (I guess that is my inner STJ whispering in my ear)… but then Ne takes over and follows all the shiny things. lol & sigh

I've always disliked how INFJs are typically described as planners, and I think it causes a lot of confusion. Si is maybe more likely to actually do a step by step plan, but I like to think that Ni likes to "prepare". I'm not a planner predominantly, I'm a preparer. I want to know what to expect, how it might go (as you guys said so well in the video). I want to feel like I'm prepared to handle any details that may arise. If I feel prepared and I've thought it through then I'm okay with the idea, and can be very adventurous. For example I enjoyed skydiving and love roller coasters. I love my adrenaline pumping, it actually makes me feel calm, but I have to feel like I'm prepared to enjoy it. For skydiving, I did a ton of research first, and even with something that's not as safe, I can enjoy it if I feel as though I'm informed enough about the subject to avoid danger. It's all about me being able to come up with solutions or mental experience in order to avoid a catastrophe. I'm actually good in a crisis, but my preference is to avoid it as much as possible. Edit: Also wanted to add that I really enjoy things like skydiving and rollercoasters due to not being able to live in the moment. Situations like the aforementioned force me to be in the moment. It's difficult for me to just be in the moment without a potentially fatal or dangerous situation, sadly. 😂

INFJ Ni/Ti - I've always held to the personal belief that if you've walked 10 steps you've seen the world. The physical world means nothing to me, as I could never experience the same feeling that people get by 'doing' things, like riding dirt bikes, or horses, having dates, mingling, dancing...etc. The common view is that if you're not active that somehow you'll regret it when you're 70 -- I don't believe that at all, that somehow by experiencing activities somehow it raises a meter called 'life-fulfillment' like some videogame. I think what people are trying to say is that the experience is meaningful, and that somehow dampens the dread of death, it's just that for some activities are also an end in-itself (ESXP). Meaningful activities for me have always been abstract rather than physical -- I get 0% enjoyment unless it's weightlifting, videogames, or shooting guns. As a kid I might has well been crippled mentally because I never wanted to 'do' anything.

#5 I totally see in myself as an INFP… and I see it strongly in INTPs I know in certain (social) context. I totally know what I think about myself, but have a super poor sense of how other people view me… And if I do get fixated on what others think of me, it tends to be a negative space since it is the lower part of my stack. INFJs I have known, I wouldn’t say their sense of self is balanced, as mentioned for IJs in the video… but more like, they require a lot of feedback from others, then they will take a lot of time to decide if they “do the thing” mentioned by others. But because the way Ni and Ti work, that equilibrium is often in flux, as if constantly testing out what others (Fe) are saying.

Thank you for this video. I am sometimes unsure if I truly am an INFJ, but while hearing your thoughts on the signs, I kept getting flashbacks of some moments. Especially when it comes to "foresight". Even if I get into risky and chaotic situations, I am well aware of what I am doing and how this could turn out (though I'm most certainly dissociating at the time), otherwise I would have left the situation. Regarding this sensitivity to other's opinions and own identity, I do have BPD which probably is why I can take other's opinions to heart.

Okay thats weird. As an INTP who actually might be an ISFJ, I agreed with all of the points except the last one. In every way I'm an ISFJ except the last part. I've had phases in my life where I DID swing back and forth between unawareness of the tribes view of me and then hypersensitivity to what the tribe thinks of me. Re: #3 Oh I know some I..FJs that end up having NO idea how they got somewhere!!! In these cases I can see it (as one of my NE many possibilities). I'm sure this is mostly due to their Ni/Si ( my experience is more with Ni friends) not matching with their projected outcomes....them being wrong about how the thing was supposed to go, so they can't understand it. as an INTJ, i compared the calm of a white wall with the calm of chaos, and realised that embracing chaos without losing calm was an effective alternative route to peace that was interesting. Living in the moment becomes a necessity to avoid spiraling into fractal potentials. There are so many unknowns, so many iterative potentials, that what becomes important is not the probabilities and potentials themselves, but rather the pattern of them. Once the pattern is seen, the details, that dive into the fractal dimensions of getting lost in introversion and calculation, is unnecessary. Seems to me your descriptions match people who are stuck, and have not looked at their weaknesses and blind sides in order to become whole

You have to hold yourself back from taking charge - IxxJs take charge only in familiar settings, and they need permission to do so 3. You find yourself in precarious situations that are risky and you have no idea how you got there. - IxxJs want to have control over chaos and tend to forecast ahead - any risk is predicated on sufficient research or planning 4. You’re very good at living in the moment - ISxJs are more focused on the past - INxJs are more focused on their vision 5. You have an extreme relationship with how people see you-swinging from unawareness to hypersensitivity to outer work feedback - IxxJs are fairly balanced with interacting with the group, and they can more naturally see others’ pov

Ni and Si are about personal experiences. But for IJs with Ni, Si as a first function, those personal experiences are for other people. IJs need to be asked by their tribe to go somewhere, do something. So they don't seek experiences, that are not useful to their tribe.

@@darkteletubby7674 doesn't sound like it to me... But I do agree with what he's saying, when I really think about it (I'm ENFP with INFJ best friends, and these types need me to ask them to have "experiences " with them). I also make sure to incorporate what they like too, so it's a win-win. Are IJs aware that they NEED this?? I didn't know until this comment made me think about my ENFP/INFJ dynamic. @@kellikakes81 After learning about cognitive functions for a while and then observing people through this lens, i realized that there are no tribe over self/self over tribe people. We all have similar levels of tribe relationships. ISFP is as tribe oriented as ENTJ. But his responsibility towards a tribe is Fi - to be responsible for preferenced of their tribe - to rank things from most important to do to less important. Just like ENFP responsibility is Ne - to collect understanding of how things/people influence each other (Ni) and give summary of that collection to people. But it has to be requested from the tribe. They will not just be interested it whatever. Demand for it comes from the outside. Our second function is what we usually use to communicate with other people and it is our most comfortable function. Third function is our own. We let nobody to have a say in its use. And fourth is for fun. And if somebody else wants us to use our first function, they have to provide information to our 4th function themselves.

@@kellikakes81 INTJ here. Experiencing new things and moving outside of my comfort zone is definitely easiest when it’s with other people, though it’s also the kind of thing where, intellectually, I’m aware of this fact, but it can be hard to remember it or be aware of opportunities where I could take advantage of this knowledge.

@@kellikakes81 On tests of both cognitive functions and letter dichotomies I seem to score high on both INTJ and INTP. I generally will identify as INTJ because it seems like it might be a little closer. I also have two INTP siblings, one of them extreme in preferences, and I can at least tell that if I'm an INTP, my preferences aren't as strong as either of those two. I'm kind of content to just sit around at home by myself for ages, but I also don't feel any particular need for new experiences to be "useful to my tribe" or have anything to do with them whatsoever. Or to be done in the company of a "tribe" member. If I feel an interest in trying some activity, like maybe learning some new dance in a class, it's more likely I'll just go on my own without asking any friends for support or company or whatever.
