5 exercises that will help you test your body’s flexibility and guess your body age group. Prepare yourself for anything because the results may be unpleasant. Warm up before you try the exercises: you can either jump, do squats or leg swings. And now that you're ready, let's find out your true body age!
TIMESTAMPS
Shoulder Joint Flexibility 1:16
Spine Flexibility 3:08
Neck and Shoulder Girdle Flexibility 5:06
Hip Joint Flexibility 6:52
Knee Joint Flexibility 9:01
SUMMARY
- The most effective exercises for this purpose are all the different kinds of stretches. So, be sure to do them at least once a day to increase your shoulder flexibility. You can also try a simple exercise that you can do pretty much anywhere, even during a little break at work! Raise your right arm up and bend it at the elbow so it would be behind your neck and head. Slide it a bit down your back. Now, reach behind you with your left arm, so that the back of your hand.
- Let's try to do a small exercise that you probably did a lot during your PE classes at school: stand straight and keep your feet about shoulder width apart, then just lean forward (without bending your knees, though!) and try to touch the floor with your hands. Is it challenging for you? Let's find out what this says about your body.
- To improve your condition, start with neck flexibility exercises. You can tuck your chin until you feel a stretch (keep in mind that it shouldn't be painful!). Another great option is taking your neck backwards, again, until you feel a stretch. (oh, that was good…) Repeat each of these exercises about five times. Now, what about shoulder girdle flexibility? For that, you can do some kneeling exercises. Begin with a kneeling position so that your feet are under your hips. Now lift your hips and raise your straight arms over your head at the same time.
- If you want to improve your hip joint flexibility, remember to do the following exercises regularly. Just like with pretty much everything that is connected to the flexibility, stretches are the answer here. First of all, sit upright so that both of your legs are straight. Then bend your right leg, pull it into your chest and hug it tight until you feel a stretch. Again, if it's painful, it's not a good sign. Try to make it effective, but still safe. The second good exercise is a seated stretch. Sit with your knees bent out to the sides. Place the bottoms of your feet together and bring them as close to your groin as possible. Then just lean forward until you feel a stretch.
- Knee joint flexibility can be improved, just don't be lazy and add a couple of exercises to your daily workouts. The simplest thing you can do is knee bends. Just lie comfortably and bend your knee as far as possible until you feel a stretch. Other powerful stretching exercises go like this: place your feet together and then slowly take your heel towards your bottom until you feel a stretch.

The comment below mine is 100% correct. I was a professional choreographer for 25 years, working with the best dancers in the world. Some people, no matter how much they practice stretching, will never be able to touch their toes, etc. For the average person, unused to stretching, the exercises shown here are perfect if you wish to injure yourself. If you must try them, please work very gently.

I’m a female who is extremely not flexible in the hips. I was admitted into the prestigious High School of Performing Arts in New York City when I was 15 as a Modern Dance major... I danced Daily for hours there at school and after school 5 days a week. I could never do a split... my hips are tight and that’s how I’m built it has nothing to do with anything. Sure stretching is good for you but this “ test “ is not really a test of age...

@@elikristiane3953 Flexibility is actually the hardest thing to maintain as someone who has been superflexible via yoga - when have stopped for 2 yrs all my flexibility goes. I have to retrain back bends, splits etc. In fact I have to retrain eveything. Flexibility takes time and once you get it you have to keep training it or else you lose it. The hypermobile folk exist and they make up all the contortionist and circus performers but the rest of us just have to train and cannot stop training otherwise we are as stiff as you.

Down dog, and heels being flat on the ground, is about hamstring flexibility, not knee flexibility. Also, all of these exercises have absolutely nothing to do with age. You could be very young(under 12) and not be able to pass these "tests" or be elderly(over 70) and pass them easily. If you stretch regularly, you will gain flexibility.....simple as that.

Yes, it's true you could be very young or very old and do these exercises, however after 50 I notice a lot of adults start loosing basic flexibility -- they start getting stiff, less flexible, get small aches and injuries. With practice this doesn't have to happen. Hiking, dancing, biking, using machines won't give you a fluid spine and strong joints like yoga (or stretching) will. Of course strength and aerobic exercises are important as well - I don't think this is fraud at all!

Most definitely. I work with the geriatric population. I see some people in their 90s who are strong, flexible, and independent, and I see some people in their 50s and 60s who have extremely limited range of motion in their joints. It's all about taking care of your body, starting when you are young and continuing as you gets older.

this is a benchmark. There are lots of women that cant do this and lots of men that can't. Flexibility is the key to health of bones and posture. Theres several long term studies that indicate longevity based on stuff like this - one is if you can stand up from sitting on the floor without touching knees or hands on the way.

Thanks for the video. As for me, it inspires me which test to take if I want to check my level of flexibility, not the age of my body. It's only a result of taking care of your body in terms of stretching not the age of your body.

Neither age nor health affects flexibility like this! I am 63, recovering from C DIFF that went 7+(?) years undiagnosed. I'm up to 100 lbs, up from 60 when I was finally diagnosed 10 months ago. I am still struggling with incredibly weakness... BUT I can still put both legs behind my head, put both palms flat on the floor bending only at the waist, and so on. I am not healthy but I sure am flexible!
@debbieshaw9018
@debbieshaw9018 5 жыл бұрын
Barbara Stortz @ I am 61 years old but first of all good for you. I'm very flexible myself but I don't think as flexible As You Are, I do workouts or I had been need to get back into them and stick with them I do legs, ABS, weights not over 5 lb. I have a 8 pound weights but rarely use them as it bothers my back and shoulders, my favorite upper thing to do is push UPS and low impact, as far as flexibility I Amaze my boyfriend when I sit in the car and we're talkin, I usually take my shoes off and sit cross-legged I can do a lot of stretches and I tried some of them on this video I'm going to have to work at stuff like that the one where you put your hands in a prayer behind your back, always thought I was really good at flexibility till I seen that one and I can halfway do it always thought I was really good cuz I can put my arms behind my back with my hands like fingers laced and stretch clear back so I thought doing that is really good until I seen the prayer pose. I can put lotion on my own back which freaked my aunt who is now deceased freaked her out cuz she couldn't believe I could do that .I have to work more on my flexibility because it makes me feel young and it's good for your health even if you have health issues it's good for you. I have a friend / boyfriend who is 70 years old and he's had some health issues he had to have his hips worked on or one side anyway and he used to use a cane which he does not now so I've been getting after him that he could do better and needing to join a club to work out and if he wants to be with me he has to get fit. I took him Walmart shopping one time he said it was amazing to watch you, you flit here you flit there, I like speed shopping you get a good workout course I'm careful that I don't run over other customers. Just what is this condition that you have, c-diff I've heard of it but I can't remember what it is, I'm sure it can't be good so good for you and what you're accomplishing is great.🌠

As other people may have said in this comments section a lot of the advice given in this video is unrealistic if not dangerous. Take for example, the picture from the thumbnail. It's not a good guide, some people for example will never be able to do the 'reverse prayer' even with practice. In fact being able to do it with little effort, especially without practice can be a sign that you're too flexible and you could benefit from seeing a doctor about it as it may be a medical condition.

This has nothing to do with age, I could not do this stuff when I was a teenager and still can't today...after a lifetime of healthy eating and playing sport, some of us are just not that flexible even with tons of stretching.

Everyone who tellls me they are stiff have rotten stretching technique and most of all horrendous impatience. sorry this is a year late but I am a PE and Yoga teacher. People who are flexible ( not the hypermobile ones) just have patience and are prepared to do some intense stretching 2-4 times a week. I have seen people cpme to my classes huff puff say they are inflexible and never see them again. The ones that stay simply improve - they will neva be superflexible but more flexible than the average person.

Women are by design more flex than men. Could you make a video that shows what good flexibitily be for a mid age 6' 200lbs man?

True, mostly, but there are some unique women that are not flexible. Everyone is different.

This has nothing to take with age. It's completely dependent on flexibility of your body. All the images here doing the exercises are done by women and women are naturally flexible than men.

harsha Sri While that is absolutely true, there are some exceptions. I've met a man who is about twenty years older than me, and he's way more flexible... (I was 16 when I first met him. He was 35 or 36, and he could easily do the splits.)

10:05 "add a couple exercises to your daily workout"... my daily workout right now consists of trying to reach the box of cereals on the top shelf in the morning and putting my pc down on the floor from my bed without slipping out of the blanket, what do I do ?

5) You find it easy or difficult? me: I find it impossible! ....wait a minute...to do these exercises you need to be pretty slim because you can't bend yourself in two when you have a big belly. So it depends on your size not on your flexibility only

Fräulein Traveller exactly, and I am very skinny and I used to be less flexible than the average human (but now I’m very flexible cause I did cheer and gymnastics and I stretched every day). It has nothing to do with your size, but just how much you practice and how flexible you are naturally :)
