Brandy Taylor Terry I've used the large Lunette that is a bit firm but opens for me every time. Then I tried the large and small Evacup. I liked that it was softer but couldn't always get them to open. So I wanted something in between those two brands in terms of firmness plus I wanted a larger capacity for my heavy days so perhaps I wouldn't have to change at work. That all led me to the Lalicup. We'll see in about a week. 😉

When I first bought my Lena cup six months ago, it was perfect. I loved it so much, no discomfort, perfect capacity. For the past two cycles, I haven’t been able to wear it because it’s been too hard and has been pushing on my bladder and I’ve been leaking like crazy and my cramps have been increasing again and it just feels bad to wear. I’m having trouble finding a new cup to use when my cycles are like this because I have latex and other rubber allergies and it’s just been very hard for me to have a painless cycle and this video helped a lot, so thank you.
@RedHerringTV6 жыл бұрын
Hi Anne! I'm sorry to hear that your once perfect cup is no more :( However, it could just be a temporary thing. Sometimes my favorite cup isn't my favorite on certain days or even certain periods. If it's feasible, it's great to have a couple of cups that you can swap out to when this happens. Have you tried the Lena Sensitive version? Same great cup, just softer :) to ease that extra pressure on your bladder. If that's the one that you have been using, you might also check out the LoulouCup or Si-Bell (maybe found under names Soch Cup, So'Cup, ClariCup Sustain Cup depending on your location). Silicone allergies are very rare and a majority of menstrual cups are made of silicone. The only latex/rubber cups that I know of are the Keeper, Fair Squared and Loovara (Fair Squared and Loovara are actually the same cups). There there's also TPE cups that should be just fine. If you're in doubt, check the company website for an FAQ. They usually have that question asked and answered already. Also, I would probably stick with reputable cup brands. That way, there's less of a chance that additional (unknown - besides colorants and/or hardeners) material was added to the silicone. Good Luck and let me know if I can help you further

The Yuuki Classic is also known as "the Rock" because it's SO firm. I don't know of any cup that's firmer than it :O those are some mighty toned pelvic muscles you got there! The only thing that I can suggest is wiggling the cup down a bit and see if it will open easier. Maybe the rim is just getting obstructed and needs a softer 'wall' to push against to open. Sorry, I don't have any other suggestions for you :(

I just bought the lily cup and I can’t for the life of me get it to open. I believe I have very strong pelvic floor muscles.The diva cup and Lena cup were too firm for me. I have a very sensitive bladder also and if the cup is too firm it feels like I have to pee every five seconds. I’m getting pretty frustrated because I don’t want to spend anymore money on tampons and pads. I’ve already purchased three menstrual cups and neither one of them worked for me. 😪
@Commenter8396 жыл бұрын
I'm not claiming to be an expert, but the lack of holes on the Lily could explain why it wasn't opening- air holes tend to make the insertion/removal process easier. Since the Diva was too firm for you and that's an "average" firmness cup, you might want to look into softer cups. If you weren't already using it, Lena has a "sensitive" cup in clear that's softer than their normal Lena Cups, so that might be worth looking at. Putacupinit.com also has a nifty quiz that can put you in the right ballpark if you don't know what brands to look into. It's not exact science, but a lot of people seem to have good luck trying the cups the quiz suggests to them.
@I_Am_Kayyy6 жыл бұрын
Commenter839 I did take that little quiz on that put a cup in it website. The next cup I was thinking about trying was the Lunette cup. Thanks for the advice though.
@RedHerringTV6 жыл бұрын
Hi CurlyQ! I'm sorry to hear that you haven't found your 'Goldilocks' cup yet :( I know it can be frustrating. First of all, there are menstrual cup FB groups that allow 'destashing' of gently used menstrual cups. Even if you may be opposed to using a previously owned cup, someone else might be willing to buy it from you for a slight discount. This will rid you of unwanted cups and allow you to recoup some funds back. I agree with Commenter839 about the lack of air holes. I find that cups with very small holes or no holes at all tend to be hard to get open as well as release the seal/suction to remove it. The other thing that I personally had problems with during removing the Lily Cup original, was that it doesn't have that 'bump' out of the upper rim. Since it's all smooth, it make it harder to find and cave in to release the suction. If you didn't already buy the Lunette, I would suggest against it. It's actually considered a firm cup and is more firm than the Diva. Out of the three cups that you've tried, which one feels the most comfortable and easy to remove - in shape and length?
@I_Am_Kayyy6 жыл бұрын
Red Herring so far the only one that felt comfortable was the lily cup. My only problems were that it wouldn’t open and kept sliding down. But I think the only reason why I was sliding down was because I couldn’t get the cup to open. But other than that the cup is really comfortable and the silicone is super soft so I can’t really feel it at all but I just could not get it to open.
@RedHerringTV6 жыл бұрын
@@I_Am_Kayyy There's a couple of methods that I use with softer cups that I can't get open righ away. Maybe they'll work for you too. I'm going to skip ahead over my rambling and start where I explain the methods: goo.gl/1jUhRo Turn the volume down a bit. Some of my old videos were really loud. I also use this method with very firm rim cups to shield my cervix from getting hit when the rim snaps open. See if that works before running out to buy a new cup. Good Luck!

Video was very informative, can you recommend very low cervix menstrual cup brands available in India. My cervix is around 4 cm, i m unable to find menstrual cup for my length.
@RedHerringTV3 жыл бұрын
I would consider 4cm or 40mm to be a medium/low cervical height. That being said, here are a few cups in India that might work for a medium to low cervix: StoneSoup - Wings Cup is available in three different firmness levels. It lacks a stem and has a flared rim and rounded base which are great for a low cervix. Nari-Yari - Available in three different firmness levels as well. It's narrow and has a flared rim and rounded base. Soch Cup - Available in two sizes, this cup has a flared rim and rounded base. There are four channels the length of the body to help the cup fold up smaller as well as helps it open when the fold is released. This cup is on the softer side. If you have a moderate to heavy period, the Wings Cup or the large Soch Cup might be better options. If you would feel more comfortable starting with something mor narrow, the Nari-Yari or the small Soch Cup would be my suggestion. Good Luck

Is si-bell small soft as si-bell large?
@RedHerringTV3 жыл бұрын
The small Si-Bell seems slightly firmer than the large. This is true with many small vs. large cups because of the diameter size. The only time a small and large cup has approximately the same firmness is when the company takes the firmness difference into account and adjusts the durometer (hardness of silicone) before it's turned into a cup.

First of all, I'm so sorry for such a late reply. Second, I'm so proud of you for having the courage to give cups a try at 14 :) It takes a lot to over come the "ick" factor that we've been taught in society :( The Diva cup (even in the small size) is kind of a big cup. What exactly hurts while you're inserting the cup? Have you tried water based lube to ease it in? How's the cup after you get it in? Comfortable? I'm thinking maybe a smaller and maybe a bit softer cup might be easier and comfy for you.

@RedHerringTV3 жыл бұрын
Our bodies change and what works for us for several months or years, just might not work for us ever again. But then again, it can also just not work for us one time and then will work again another. It could be something seemingly unrelated like diet, weight, workout, medication, etc. If it's possible, pick up a cup with a wider diameter or a cup with a different shape. It's great to have two different cups for times like these. In my experience, two different cups have been handy for when my cervix feels like dropping lower than it normally does and my usual favorite cup/s become uncomfortably long, or when my pelvic floor feels weaker (around my period). Relaxin, a hormone that is released during menstruation and pregnancy, can cause laxity. I can't say that this is the reason, but it could be part of it. If your cup continues to give you problems, put it on the shelf for this period but don't get rid of it yet. It just might work again next month. Good Luck

OK.... SO WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE CUPS TO USE??????
@RedHerringTV6 жыл бұрын
I swap cups very often since I'm always "testing", but the one I probably reach for the most when I'm not testing would be the LaliCup medium or large :) Other cups that I reach for regularly: Yuuki Rainbow both sizes EvaCup large MyCup both sizes Saalt large Super Jennie small one other cup not on the market yet... :D Although I can use several different shapes, sizes, and firmness, please don't use my favorites to choose a cup for yourself. I would suggest locating and measuring your cervix to find out if you might be more comfortable with a shorter or longer cup, and determine if you might need a softer or firmer cup depending on if you experience bladder or bowel sensitivities.

Could you talk about the stem too? That's what bothers me but can't cut it (high cervix). I'm very sensitive down there but pretty active, so I was considering the saalt original, any suggestions?
@RedHerringTV5 жыл бұрын
Stems in particular? I did a video just on stems but it was more general and not specific cups. What type of stems do you like? What exactly gives you issues? The ones with a hard ball, grip rings, tabs styles that don't bend. Are you looking for soft, flexible, stretchy...etc? Is there a cup shape that you already like? I can throw a whole bunch of cups out there with soft, flexible stems but the actual cup might not be what you're looking for.
@pao25295 жыл бұрын
@@RedHerringTV I tried two cups (an old mooncup and Italian brand Fiordiluna) and I can't use them 'cause the stems bother me. The latter has a hollow stem with rigged spiral grips and the first has hollow stem without any grips, but I can feel it anyway because the final edge poke me like crazy. I need the stem because I have a high cervix but I'm very sensitive down there. I guess a very soft flat stem shouldn't bother me but I'm also pretty active, so I'm afraid a soft cup may move too much or not open immediately. The cups I tried are both pretty firm and opened just fine, I didn't feel them inside though. I just purchased another cup on Amazon (not a famous brand) and keeping my fingers crossed!

Why do they have little holes near the rim?
@RedHerringTV6 жыл бұрын
Those are air holes. It helps with getting air into the cup to help it open after it is inserted, as well as help it release the "seal" or suction that it might have created around your cervix when you're removing the cup.

It's a bit hard to answer that. My experience with softer cups might be very different than the next person. It depends on if you're looking for a soft body cup, soft rimmed cup, or soft overall. Also, bell-shaped or "V"-shaped. They will all be very different.

The meluna you talked about being different with different sizes. Is that the case with any of the others on your list that you know of?
@RedHerringTV7 жыл бұрын
Most of the small sized cups feel more firm than the large of the same brand. The only thing that I could come up with that would make this so, is that on a smaller sized cup the base and rim (firmer parts) are closer together than on the larger cups. The base and rim of a large cup are spread out more making the centers feel more soft. If that's the real reason, I'm not sure. BUT the MeLuna are TPE and acts differently than silicone IMO.

Ahhh...I just replied to your other comment and I was asking if you had another cup to compare it to. I see now that you're trying to pick your first cup. Do you know the height of your cervix? That would help give you an idea if you should get a short (small) cup or something with a little more length. A shorter cup might feel more comfortable for someone with a medium to a low cervix. A long cup will be easier to reach for someone with a medium to high cervix. There's nothing worse than trying to remove a cup only to find out that it rode up and now is hard to reach or out of reach. Not all longer cups are labeled as a large-sized cup. There are long but narrow cups that may be comfortable to insert and still easy to reach. I'm going to leave a couple of videos that will give you some things to think about when looking for your first cup: How to Choose a Menstrual Cup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4Cxgat7fraSr9E How to Locate & Measure Your Cervix: goo.gl/KDuxQK If you're set on purchasing either the Lunette, Korui, or Lena and are only concerned about the firmness, here are my ratings on a scale from 1-5 with 5 being the firmest. *This rating is only between these three cups and no others. I haven’t tried any but the Diva. The diva here was kind of expensive so I’m trying to do some research before I invest in another. Thanks for your reply! The Diva is DEFINITELY too firm. I couldn’t use it after the first day because it just hurt so much.

So glad to have found your channel! Subscribed and watching numerous vids lol. I did want to ask if you'd be able to suggest some cup options. I have a low cervix and I used to use the Lunette but it would drop down, I'm guessing it means I need a wide and short cup. I have a Lunette small (i.e. haven't given birth) and my period isn't heavy just crampy. Also I exercise but just gym workouts.
@RedHerringTV7 жыл бұрын
You might actually just go for the larger size cup even though you don't need the capacity. It might help keep the cup from sliding down. Since you have a low cervix you might want to try a bell shaped cup like the LaliCup (med) or Super Jennie (small), or a bell shaped cup with a flared rim the Lena Cup (small) or the Sckoon (large). The LaliCup and SJ have a decent sized rim and will allow your cervix to sit inside of the cup. Both are softer than the Lunette. The LaliCup has a bit firmer rim than the SJ making it open easier. If you're interested in the Lena cup, I would suggest the "Sensitive" version since you mentioned cramps. The Lena "Original" is pretty firm and I don't want that to add extra cramps :( The Sckoon is a short cup even in the large size and is soft and "gummy" and shouldn't cause you extra cramps, either. The difference between the bell shaped cups and the bell shaped cups with a flared rim seems (at least for me and some others) that the flare rim rides up and sits a bit higher around the cervix. It's one of the reason I like to suggest it to someone with a low cervix. I choose different sizes of the different brands because I think they might help with traveling down. However, you might prefer the smaller sizes anyhow. If you'd like to see some comparison pics of these cups against the small Lunette, I'd be happy to send you some on either FB facebook.com/redherringtv or email redherringtv@hotmail.com Just shoot me a message on either with what pics you want. I can do comparisons of the sizes I mentioned or all of the small sizes, or even both. :) Thank you for visiting my channel! I hope that I can give you a hand in finding a cup that's comfy for you :D

Hello There! I'm sorry for this late reply, but thank you for visiting my channel. I think the MeLuna medium classic is a good place to start. It's soft and narrow. If you haven't purchased the cup yet, I suggest getting the "stick" stem. You can always trim it down if needed. Good Luck

Hey ma'am, i am able to use only firm cups..... Can you tell me why is it so?
@RedHerringTV6 жыл бұрын
Some people just have a much easier time getting firmer cups to open, and others have a very toned pelvic floor that may collapse a very soft cup. I don't fully know your situation so I couldn't really tell you why you are only able to use firm cups. Have you tried several softer cups? What are the problems that you have with them?

Hi! I’m using the blossom cup but I’m getting cramping :( and i also feel like I have to pee really bad for about 2 hours after I put the cup .. the cramps only stop when I take the cup out. I’m afraid that my cup is still to rough for me.. I’ve been thinking about the Lily cupA because it doesn’t have a thicker silicone rim like the blossom .. what do you suggest ? :(
@RedHerringTV5 жыл бұрын
I replied to your other comment but you left some additional information here so, so will I :) Feeling the need to urinate more frequently, feeling like you didn't fully empty your bladder when you do, having a slow urine stream, or experiencing constipation are common signs of a sensitive bladder/urethra or bowel and that the cup is most likely too firm to be comfortable. Again, can you tell me what size Blossom Cup you have and if the length is comfortable and easy to reach when you need to remove it. I can't really give you any suggestions without extra details, but I can tell you that the Lily Cup A & B are the same length. I typically suggest these for someone with a high cervix. If you're using the small Blossom Cup and you can reach it easily without bearing down, then I would have to take a guess that you have a medium to a low cervix. In that case, I wouldn't suggest the Lily Cup. This is why I need extra details. I might also mention that the Lily Cup originals do not have any airholes. This can and has caused some issues with a very tight seal/suction while removing the cup. I'm not saying that this will be the case for you, but it's something to think about.

What cup would you recommend for high intensity training? I mean I could just remove the cup and reinsert it before the training, and after, but I found with my current one.. I ran a 2km distance and began leaking :/.

I need a cup firmer than the Yuuki Classic, any recommendations?
@RedHerringTV5 жыл бұрын
The Yuuki Classic and the MeLuna Sport are the firmest cups that I know of. Can I ask how the Yuuki Classic is causing issues?
@ChloexLashay5 жыл бұрын
Red Herring thanks! How I sleep at night causes my cup to open. During the day I don’t have any issues and at night I still continue to empty my cup at the same duration, but when I sleep in this one particular position which is the most comfortable to me my classic yuuki leaks.
@RedHerringTV5 жыл бұрын
@@ChloexLashay Hmmm, I'm not sure that it's the firmness that's causing your issues. Are you using the small or large Yuuki? If your cervix is sitting inside of the cup, it could be taking up some of the capacity and laying in your favorite position just may be what makes it spring a leak. A higher capacity cup or maybe even one with a different shape might work better or last longer.
@ChloexLashay5 жыл бұрын
Red Herring I’m using the small yuuki currently. I’ll try your suggestions of both a different shape and a larger capacity at night and see how that works out. Thanks so much for your help!

Hello! I'm really sorry for this late reply. I hope that you were able to find some information on which cup might work for you. If not, I would definitely recommend locating and measuring your cervix before buying a cup. It could make a huge difference in finding a cup that will be comfortable as well as easy to reach. Here's a video that will give you some things to think about when cup hunting. Hi, im from india. im using the Alx care large cup. Its length without stem is approximately 53mm. Its a soft cup. Im using it comfortably during the day. It also does pop open easily each time. But at nights it leaks during my heavy flow days even if its not full. I tried to keep the cup a little low and not ride it high up inside just in case the cup has popped open next to the cervix. Tht didnt work either. Also about half an inch of the cup remains outside (though it doesn't bother me). Do u think i shd go in for a shorter length cup and a more firm cup? I also cant figure out the length of my cervix. My whole index finger goes in n i can't feel anything inside other than muscle.. I also tried the stonesoup teal green regular cup with the same problem. Pls help. Im totally confused.

I'm sorry that that was your experience with a menstrual cup. There are so many cups on the market, it's just finding the right one for your situation and anatomy. There should never be any pain during any part of the process. If you ever want to try cups again, I would be happy to help narrow a few down for you. But if you don't, I totally understand why.
