I find it funny and annoying when people say Venus for instance has the hardest living conditions and its near impossible to live there. Yeah. For US! If an alien species lived on Venus it wouldn't be harsh cause they were born there so they would be built to live in that climate. For them living on our planet would be impossible.
@cablecar108 жыл бұрын
The origin is the hard part. You need abiogenesis (life coming from non-life) to occur, which is an incredibly improbable event. Venus does not have, nor has it had, conditions that scientists believe to be beneficial to the creation and maintenance of organisms. The reason we have highly adapted life in harsh conditions on earth, say deep sea heat vents or in extremely cold places, is because microbial life developed in the right conditions, then evolved as conditions changed. The complexity comes much later than the initial life.

I literally just thought of the movie 'Mars Attack.'
@superzilla7848 жыл бұрын
Yes, I heard about that on Discovery Channel once. they said it's impossibly for life to exist on a planet with high gravity even though all other living conditions have been met. so we'll never see anything like the Saiyans or anything that would be a beast if it was here on Earth because it comes from a planet where a feather weighs 30 tons. I'm pretty sure that on another planet right now, aliens are saying it's impossible for Humans to exist. just because it's impossibly for us, that doesn't mean it's impossible for someone else. as Ian said in Jurassic Park, "Life finds a way."

@robotictoast658 жыл бұрын
It's just to follow the rules of science. If no evidence exists to back a claim, it cannot be made. Also, all scientific claims have to be falsifiable. The belief in the possibility that we just practice geochauvinism should guide scientific discovery, but should not be deemed credible as of current. Unfortunately, even more so, there is more evidence that life requires food, water, carbons, and oxygen to exist than there is against the claim. This is because there are no infinite stable elements in the galaxy that we know of. The larger the atom, the less stable it is. Our current periodic table basically has all the elements that matter in the known universe, and we are stuck with the elements that are most likely to make stable and numerous chemical bonds, those being Carbon and Oxygen.

Scientists keep saying life can't live on a certain planet because it doesn't have water, or it's too hot, or there's no atmosphere. But what if the life on a different planet has adapted to its surroundings? What if THAT life can survive through intense heat? Or THAT life can live without oxygen and there is a different type of gas they breathe? I mean animals that live in the desert can survive the heat, right? And another example is fish. We can't breath under water and we always have to come up for air at some point or we will die. But not fish. They have to stay under water to live. So what if life on other plants can live in THOSE conditions because you know, they live there??? That part of this "aliens can't exist" thing has always confused me.
@lelmone68568 жыл бұрын
DrawingFreakForever Well, carbon is one of the most abundant elements in the known universe (beaten out by several orders of magnitude by stuff like hydrogen and nitrogen, but still), so it stands to reason that whatever physical life is out there would most likely be carbon-based, and there's a limit to what conditions carbon-based lifeforms can adapt to. For one thing, H2O is basically a requirement for any carbon-based lifeform, which is why astronomers make such a ruckus whenever solid or liquid water is found.
@anonymouscandle12238 жыл бұрын
Lelmon E6 True but scientists have also said Sillicon based life could exist and there also might be elements that life could be based on that we haven't discovered yet, maybe it's not abundant enough. Or maybe our basic knowledge isn't as advanced as we think. It was only recently discovered that water has another form we didn't know about and most of this world is covered in it. We know a lot, but nowhere near enough to say that life can't evolve out of other elements or in extreme situations.
@jamesmeritt68007 жыл бұрын
Silicon life would have issues excreting the products of oxidation. It would, quite literally, shit bricks. At the cellular level this is a bad thing. Neat idea, though.
@wesswaful7 жыл бұрын
didn't read any of the other comments but its just those are the conditions we know life is able to exist with... theres too many planets to waste time looking for life on seeming uninhabitable conditions. I don't understand why scientist look for water or earth like characteristics in other planets in order to even consider the chance that there might be life on that planet. If there is life ON ANOTHER PLANET why should it need to be similar to LIFE ON OUR PLANET? We as humans need certain things but that doesn't mean they would need the same things we do. Maybe that's why they don't find anything.They expect to find, and only look for what they know.

@rain64138 жыл бұрын
+Lake Bass So aliens are like legos?
@BeelZeDemon8 жыл бұрын
+Joce lyn I'm no expert, but I think it has to do with bacteria and evolution. If a planet's conditions are too warm, bacteria cannot survive, and the condition for anything to evolve into a life form is very unlikely. Likewise if a planet is too cold, once again bacteria cannot survive, and the chances for life to evolve are low, however they still regard frozen planets as the most likely hosts for alien life. That being said, Titan has liquid methane lakes and rain occurs often. They're planning on sending a boat probe on the surface of titan in order to test it and eventually scan the water there for any kind of alien aquatic life form; so they're not necessarily looking for water as an evidence of life.

The thing is, we think that Life is something separate from the Universe. at least we FEEL that way. We feel as if we're anomalous. But Life is a process of Nature. It depends on what lines you draw yourself to define what is Alive and what isn't. Scientists (for good, sound reasons involving our practical categorization of Life) don't count minerals as alive. But they certainly have a process of change themselves, even if it is so slow that we can't measure it or classify it. In my own opinion, the Universe is a process of Life. It's alive itself, even if some parts don't seem like it. Remember that those parts that aren't alive cause what we consider to be Life to arise and animate. I Think that we shouldn't be surprised to find beings made of gases out there in the Cosmic Void, maybe as big as our solar system. I think that we shouldn't be surprised to find beings that have genetic structures of silicon and sulfur and aluminum. If it's a way for Energy to gain animation through Matter, it will find a way. but that's just my own opinion on the matter. I'm not a Scientist and I'm one of those flaky spiritual types so my words are about as serious as a bad joke here in the internet. Believe what you find to be reasonable and sound, but be willing to be surprised.

@LeviAckerman-ln8kt8 жыл бұрын
the pictures that were shown on the last topic were often Dyson Spheres. A Dyson sphere is a structure around the star to utilize all of it's energy. If we'd be advanced enough to build such a Dyson sphere with the current distance (so it's diameter would be ~300.000.000km) it'd offer a surface of 7.685.000.000.000.000 km². Compared to The 510.100.000 km² (that aren't completely utilizable at all) it has a surface that is ~15.000 bigger than that of the earth. See why such systems could be built by aliens? They use all the energy of the star and offer far more space. With 100% sustainable and environmentally friendly and responsible behaviour we could easily host 10 billion humans without any of them starving etc. (but that's another debate). If we consider that if the earth would be all usable, we could easily host 30 billion people. Now expand this by 15.000. Such a sphere could easily host 450.000.000.000.000 people.
@alfredherbolario87068 жыл бұрын
Damn
@LeviAckerman-ln8kt8 жыл бұрын
Electric Shock But honestly, a civilization has to be pretty advanced to build such a sphere. You need ludicrous amounts of material that has to be transported troughout space. If such a sphere exists, I think it was built by a Type III Civilization.
@Up8Y8 жыл бұрын
+Levi Ackerman I don't know about it being "environmentally friendly", considering such a large structure could potentially use more resources than you could get from a single planet.
@LeviAckerman-ln8kt8 жыл бұрын
Up8Y Of course you'd need numerous planets. That's why I am not sure if a dyson sphere makes sense for a civilization.

ummmm, you need a liquid for life, as well as SOME energy supply to do something.

Science does not exist in a vacuum and recognises this as such. One thing science does though is create models and test them: this is your evidence - and so based on current evidence, this is what science tells us. You know how in alien movies when they meet the humans they call them carbon based life forms. I think what the movie is trying to do is suggest aliens bodies don't have to follow the same guidelines as ours suggesting on their world's they may have evolved in a completely opposite way than us they may even be comprised of elements we don't even know about. But as I'm saying this I also have to bring up that creepy area 51 recording from that talk show. His description was "They are not aliens they are interdimensional beings always around you just cannot see" which brings the question could these things they are meddling with be demons which would explain them being hidden to normal mortal eyesight and explain how they can appear anywhere seemingly without issue as they aren't from this realm. So yeah I have you like three conspiracies one of which I kind of put together a while back being the demon one lol but yeah those are some things. Obviously nothing official as of late but thoughts are thoughts.
