Oh, you're an ICU nurse! Right on! I'm a paramedic in Toronto and I understand your stubbornness about submitting yourself to the "patient" side of things (although I have Crohn's disease and was hospitalized for 6 days a couple months back), but the whole time you were telling your story I was like, "GET YOURSELF TO THE HOSPITAL!!" I'm so glad it all worked out, though. 😅

I've always said that nurses and school teachers are the true unsung heroes of our society, and we ought to swap their wages with what we pay professional athletes and Hollywood actors. (The slightly longer version of my story is that, after 16 years of working on ambulances, I became permanently disabled as a result of physical health problems related to the Crohn's and mental health problems caused by PTSD. There have been many nurses who have made a positive difference in just my own life even though they were being overworked and underpaid.) I'm sure you'll go on to do great things in life, and I hope you know you're appreciated even at times that it doesn't feel like it!

⚔️ That's so scary about getting sick on your trip. As a nurse, I agree, we don't do well if we are put in the patient position. I'm so glad you made a full recovery and were able to enjoy your trip!

I had a severe case of food poisoning earlier this year that left me feeling like I was dying. It was the worst headache and nausea I’ve ever experienced, and it lasted for days. I ended up in the ER. It seems like food poisoning is worse than it used to be. I can’t imagine going through that in a foreign country-I feel for you.

Bali looked amazing and exhausting. So sorry you were sick - and sick people on a plane would have had me so anxious and upset. It was memory making for sure. Thanks for sharing it all - travel is not always sunshine and unicorn farts and I love when people keep it real.

Sydney - I'm so sorry for your food poisoning experience in Tokyo. I had food poisoning in January this year and CANNOT even IMAGINE having it in an airport/on an airplane. I'm so glad you felt better in Bali and were able to rally! Thanks for sharing some of the trip footage 💞 Looked like a blast!

I enjoyed how this turned into so many types of vlog and loved every part. Well not the you almost dying part, but the surviving to tell the story part yes! Bali looked beautiful and I’m so glad you were able to enjoy it still. I’m really wanting to read all three of these books and just need to finish a few more series before I let myself start in on new ones…

Listening to this like a podcast while I clean my house lol. That night in Tokyo is terrifying!!!!! I was also so worried you were having an allergic reaction reaction when the story started, so glad to hear you talking about it in hindsight!

when you mentioned you were like a cat and on your fifth life, it made me think of a book I just read that you may like! Especially as an animal lover 😊 It's a cute tiny little book too. It's called The Ghost Cat by Alex Howard. It's set in Scotland and it's about a kitty cat born in 1887, and we follow him (yes he's the main character!) through his 9 lives over a 120 year span. I don't want to say more than that but just know that it is adorable and sweet, at times heartbreaking but endearing, and also humorous. I mean.. you get to be inside a cat's head and it's everything you think it would be 😹 I read it from the library and gave it 5🌟 .. an all-time favorite so I'm going to purchase a copy for my collection and annotate it.

girl I had already seen your reels on IG talking about your Japan near death, but reliving it with you through KZbin had me stressed AGAIN. so happy you are okay and it didn't completely ruin your trip!! okay the reading for content therefore it taking forever is a MOOD 😪 That's also the reason it took me forever to get around to reading WOK, and the reason why I haven't picked up WOR. Cause I want to vlog it so badly, but on the same token I need to have the time and energy to do so. loved the vlog, felt like we just spent an entire month together 💀

Oof your story reminded me of time when I was flying home from London and feeling very very unwell. It later turned out to be a stomach inflammation. I have a pretty severe anxiety and a HUGE nausea anxiety as I've been struggling with it quite often, and I was really ready to just stay in London and figure something out or die. The fact that there's no escape in the middle of the flight plus there's times when you need to sit down and can't go to the toilet is so scary in these situations. I'm glad you've made it, and I really admire you, I'd probably get home and cry for a month. 🫣

So sorry you went through that in Tokyo, that sounds truly terrible and I’m so glad you’re okay!! Brandon Sanderson has become a comfort author for me this year, after reading Tress and 3 Stormlight books (plus some novellas), and I agree that his pacing is so good and that these books read quickly even though they’re so long. So glad WoK was a 5 star for you after all this time! 🙌

First of all, so glad you made it safely and were also able to have a great time! I also wanted to say, you passed over a Janny Wurts book in that book nook - you might really like her stuff (she's an OG fantasy writer). Pocari Sweat was actually invented to save lives from the BRUTAL Japanese summers that cause quick and severe dehydration - it was excellent that he picked that out of everything.

What a wild ride! I’m so glad you’ve ended up being ok health wise. Being that sick is scary in general but add in being in a foreign country, the language barrier, and being a nurse just.. damn. These are all series I really want to start but haven’t yet because they’re intimidating 😅 I do really want to pick up The Way of Kings now though.

no i do understand your travel thing, but only because I can't drive, and I'm stuck most of the time at home with my books, so I'm kind of forced to read. (otherwise i would have nothing to do) i'm sorry you weren't feeling good. I'm glad your better now. That's not being dramatic hun, you were sick, ,and your man is the best. I know how that is too. As someone who can't do MRIS with out freaking out, I have to get knocked out for it, and that was the last time I felt really yuck. Then my sister gave the three of us covid in the summer.
