Blue Sisters messed me up in a great way. I also really loved it and as someone who lost a sibling, it hurt but was also so cathartic. I adore that there's no clean ending - some of them get "better", some don't and I'm so glad I read it when it came out. I rated it five stars too. I'm going to read Hyunam-dong before the year is out.

My vote was for Blue Sisters! I have only read Intermezzo and Good Material besides that one. They were both strong, but Blue Sisters was just so beautiful to me. I have purchased or put so many of the nominees on hold on Libby/at the library - fiction is definitely the strongest category this year. I'm super interested in some science ficiton and horror, too this year. I am especially super excited to read "A Sky Full ot Elephants". Its too bad that it didn't make the top 10. Fantasy was disappointing for me this year. The two I liked best weren't even top 10!

Another reason for lack of quotations is that if the story is told in past tense, it could reflect that the dialogue is not exactly being correctly remembered or honestly expressed. Memory is never perfect and we often tell the past to ourselves differently than it actually happened.

Loved this vlog! Margo's got money troubles was one of my faves of the year, such a relatable and well-written character. I'm not a fan of Sally Rooney's work at all and I have seen Coco Mellors be compared to her, would you say Mellor's books have similar vibes-themes-characters as Rooney's work? I can't stand Rooney's passive female characters and the nonsense issues all her characters have just because they lack basic communication skills, but I very much am curious about Mellors work
@SydBookWorrom2 күн бұрын
@@user-qu8zs7vs1x I could see the comparison in how they explore flawed and real characters and themes, but their writing styles are very different in my opinion. I also see coco’s female characters as my FAVORITE parts. I think coco would be worth a try for you to be completely honest!

I have never read Sally Rooney, nor know anything about her other than the titles of her books. But what you describe sounds a lot like Virginia Woolf's writing style. Maybe she's a fan.
