Fab tips again, thanks so much Kara! You made me realise my evolving (and hopefully improving) body language I’m learning from you is not in line with my fast speech, abundance of smiles and big gestures 😆. I’ll your tips down too and put it in from of my screen so I can remember. I’ll watch the How to Look Like a Leader video, but can I just ask if it’s too big of a mistake to dress in a smart casual way when senior and C-level leaders (and most of the staff) tend to dress casually? It’s not like I wear a suit, but my style is very similar to what you tend to wear (sorry, this just happens to be), but sometimes I choose to wear a hoodie (!) on calls in this new wfh era, because other people of different levels of seniority wear fleeces as well. Maybe this question is out of scope 🙃, so apologies if this is the case.

I'm glad you liked these tips Eszter! Thanks for watching again :) As to your question: I don't think there is anything wrong with dressing in a smart casual way when your colleagues and boss wear casual. If most of the staff dress casually, wearing a suit might be too formal (you don't want to alienate yourself) but smart casual is perfectly acceptable. I think WFH has made the workplace a lot more casual so sometimes wearing a hoodie on video calls is fine too. You have to find a balance between your personality, the workplace culture and level of formality that your colleagues wear. I hope that helps!

@@kararonin Thank you so much Kara, this is so helpful and reassuring :). I think your point about finding the balance across those 3 things is the key to my dilemma - with the emphasis being on that golden balance. I need to do some thinking and revision of my clothes, but this topic is dear to my heart, so it will be fun looking at my wardrobe with a kind of professional pair of eyes. (Actually, I've just spotted a Reebook blazer, which could be a nice addition and a testament to this balance.) Thanks a lot again.

One thing you can’t teach is confidence . Confidence comes in time after you have acquired skills, knowledge, experience . It comes on it’s own when you’re ready. That’s why teenage kids are less confident than mature ppl , they haven’t passed the milestones. That’s why one yr employee is less confident that a 20 yrs senior employee, it’s in experience . Some things can not be taught and that is confidence . “Take 5 min to write down what values you bring …” If all you need is 5 min then you’re already confident , you know what you bring to the table , you know your value therefore you are confident . Ask my teenage this question and he’ll be back in 5 yrs not 5 min. Body language the same . Your body language shows confidence bc you have it already . You can’t teach a shy hesitant person to walk in a room with confidence when he is scared to death . This talk is not so good ,confidence is complex behaviour depending on other factors and needs to be found on your own , not taught.
