Almost every youtube reviewer of a vehicle or person I talk to prefers a traditional shifter - instead of the push button shifter.. Like you mentioned - even a column shifter would have been better.. Not sure how a company like Honda (and Acura) would force every one to have use a push button shifter.. when most people don't want (and don't like) a push button shifter.. Maybe Honda should make a push button shifter an option..

Good points about the Ridgeline. Our 2015 highlander has a similar dead-pedal hump to the ridgeline, but they sit different somehow. I'm 6'3 and sometimes the dead pedal bothers me to. The Care Care Nut YT'er says the pushbutton is a result of the ZF 9 speed Honda used for the ridgeline. The adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and collision mitigation are all pretty bad in the Hondas. I haven't had any emergency braking but the warning has come up several times. The lane keep assist just disables itself with only a small, brief message on the dashboard that I never notice. The adaptive cruise control fluctuates the throttle too rapidly, creates a surging effect that you can see if you drive with the MPG slider. The good thing is you can disable them if they bother you, but like you, I would have liked a better working safety net with these systems. I have a 2024 RTL in white that I bought in May, I came from an 2006 f150 that I owned since new. I do miss the cab room, but I'm happy with my purchase. Just sat in my first Ridgeline today at the dealer. It might be a good fit for us, but we'll probably go with the Tacoma or Tundra. That raised foot section is pretty common on AT vehicles. The button shifter is different, but is less in the way than other AT methods. That does seem strange to not have LEDs everywhere...I've replaced many on our older 4runner and Sienna. The tailgate seems so tiny and light compared to the one on our F150, but I can understand that after needing to slam the truck one a bit. Glad to hear the safety feature is adjustable. We've had a similar problem on our '22 Sienna, but with cross traffic when at slow speeds, including starting to cross a street when the cars are still far away. We turned the feature off for a while, and I don''t think that was adjustable for us. I don't mind the auto-off feature on the F150, and am more bugged when it isn't triggered for some reason. It restarts when I start to let up on the brake, and is plenty fast. The new Sienna is a hybrid, so it uses EV at slow speeds anyways. But the F150 V6 ecoboost is so twitchy anyways that I just never completely mash the pedal when stopped. Without turbos or EV, the Ridgeline just wouldn't have as much low end torque, so it's not as easy to fly off the line. But is it really that bad, or is it just like the shifter that it is different?

Adaptive cruise is not stop and go. it wont work below 25 mph. blind spot monitoring does not work below 20mph so you better be careful on your slow merges.. there are no front center parking sensors, they are only in the front corners so antyhing more centered it wont detect.. it wont detect a parking pole and in my case i have a tandem parking spot and it wont detect my other car when i pull up to it yes seriously.. the vented seats are too weak even on high feel like its barley working.. the vented seats in my grand cherokee work way better.. why no 360 or front cam option? also the only way to turn on reverse cam is the truck must be in reverse.. why no quick look view so i can quick check that all is good in my tow hitch setup .. why no hill descent control? its in a crv but not a ridgeline ,, why? and finally the bed is pretty shallow if you put a tonneau cover on you only have 16 inches of depth which is really restrictive in useability. hoping the next gen ridgeline has better execution on its options/features..

I have a 23 and the auto stop start will not work if you have your AC set up to hi you can lower your fans speed, but if you keep the temperature at hi it won't activate.Mine actually only activates when the AC is turned completely off. It's something about the battery pull that causes the on and off to not activate if you're using a lot of other electrical items in the vehicle to prevent it from not being able to restart. Also, you have to push the brake pedal all the way down, fairly hard to get the stop start to activate you'll learn the sweet spot of pushing on the brake pedal so that it doesnt activate I've had my collision management brake light come on if I am turning and there's a telephone pole etc , but it's never activated the brakes you can adjust the sensitivity in the vehicle settings. When I open my tailgate, I don't just let it drop like that can cause damage to the tailgate or camera even if you have an older truck you shouldn't just let it fall like that continuously. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the dual action tailgate as to why there cannot be a dampering on it.

I can relate to the lane departure/collision mitigation feature being way too sensitive. I turned mine off in my Civic when the system stabbed my brakes sharply while steering widely around another vehicle appeared to be looking for an address etc. I was no where close to the vehicle and the only thing I could think of that the sensors were viewing as a hazard were the painted lines of a left turn lane that half of my car was in and a painted closed V on the other side of the intersection. This was in a very rural commercial area on a two lane road(no traffic/obstacles). My biggest fear after that occurrence was would the system stab at the brakes while I was trying to pass on the freeway if the car I was passing sped up to close the gap(definitely a so calif bad habit) in addition to approaching a slower moving vehicle that may also tap their brakes(with nobody in front of them…again So California habits) ergo initiating the safety system to put me in harms way midway while passing. A lot of these systems are still in their infancy. I like the blind spot monitoring/cross traffic alerts etc. but not a fan of this one particular feature myself…

I agree 100% with auto start stop. It's not for gas mileage, it's for emissions. Very dumb, and I am also positive that the battery and starter will wear out much sooner too. So, get in the habit of turning it off. I've forgotten a few times, but you're reminded the first time the engines huts off. On my CRVs, the CMBS does have a little adjustment. I think it's labeled short and normal. What do you think about the cylinder deactivation?

Hey Joe. I really like your review of the Ridgeline. I currently have a 2013 Silverado 238.000 Klms and I love my truck but its getting up there in age and will eventually need to replace it, have you seen the price on new trucks. I see allot of the Ridgelines here in Ottawa Ontario Canada and I really like the looks of the vehicle, I would go with a cap to accommodate things we bring to the cottage in the shallow bed. You indicated that allot of your 5 things were not deal breakers and I agree. I am not a fan sun roofs as I do keep my vehicles for long periods of time and this would be a leak issue down the road but over all a great review very informative thanks for this.

Push button transmission selector is not intuitive. It’s actually distracting. I have to look down anytime I’m selecting a button. I wish you could turn off the collision warning permanently. Mine hasn’t applied brakes yet but the BRAKE warning and wheel shaking is kinda scary. It’s happened twice on corners and twice on straight road in 2 months of owning it. Dealer tells me there is a recall on the Pilot, but not on the RL. Open a case at your service department to get this issue corrected.

All five things I dislike as well. The curve breaking could be dangerous. One thing you missed. The radio does not stay on to finish a song when you shut the truck off. You have to leave the truck running to finish your song. This thing is so much nicer then my 2020 Ram. Loading height is like night and day better as well as stability.

Honest assessment, Joe. 2021 Ridgeline Black Edition owner here and I love my Honda truck. I agree that the collision warning sensor seems too sensitive. I use the USAA auto insurance App and that bugger dings me if I move my phone (handling) or brake harshly (to avoid a collision!). That App and the AARP safe driver online course have made me more cautious by watching my speed, preparing for stops and never taking/making a call while driving. As a result, my insurance premium went down 29% on my latest renewal. The lack of LED lighting is because you have the RTL trim instead of the Black Edition. Personally, I don't know why LEDs aren't on every trim. I agree the tailgate drops hard, but I typically use the swing out feature. The gear selector buttons...I'm used to them. Ventilated seats would be nice.
@skydancerforever23 күн бұрын
The push botton shifting was mandatory because of the German transmission Honda uses in the Ridgeline. Better read up on how to get it out of park if the electrical goes out. There is a little stub on top of the trans under the hood. There is a youtube video about. I am sure someone makes a soft drop shock instead of that cable. I installed one on my 2017 F150 tailgate.

I think with most of the new cars, you need to disable the stop/start feature each time. The Subaru I recently bought, you have to disable it each time too. (although like you said, there are aftermarket kits you can buy to disable that feature.) For the issue re: location of your left foot, they would have to move the whole cabin back more, since I'm sure that is where the wheelwell is.
@randomstuffwithjoe3 ай бұрын
I've never had a vehicle with the stop/start feature. Tho my wife's car has it and she doesn't seem to mind it. I'm getting used to pressing the button every time I get in the truck.. but if it continues to annoy me.. I may just get the chip to disable it. The bump in the floor is slightly annoying.. but like I said, none of these issues are deal breakers for me.
@pcthayer3 ай бұрын
@@randomstuffwithjoe On the Subaru I sometimes forget to push the button until I get to a stop light. Then when I try to disable it, it is in a group of 6 buttons so sometimes push the wrong button. With the Ridgeline at least the button is all by itself (although somewhat awkward to reach back there.)

The front collision sensers function the same over different year model Ridgelines, Pilots and Passports as in a "false" activation even as the oncoming traffic is well in their lane. The push button gear selection has been in the Ridgeline since 2020. The rattle at the rear when the truck is running, all of them do that (my 2020 Ridgeline and 2019 Passport included). You NEED the halogen high beams because ice and snow WILL cover up the LEDS and may set the front sensors warning light.

Love my 2023 RTL-E. I am disappointed by the aftermarket support. I would like to see Honda offer more in the way of off-road upgrades that include lift, larger tire clearance, undercarriage protection, etc.. Honda needs to start the aftermarket kit so that others will follow. I camp a lot, but have not pulled the trigger on bed upgrades as of yet due to the lack of options with racks, spare tire options, etc.. Also, I like that it tows and came with the 7 pin, but it should also have a 4 pin AND it is brake module ready, but should have one pre-installed. I am much more used to the shifting now, but I do not like the push button gears as compared to a shifter.

But I don't like a rubber timing belt I have to tear the engine apart and replace every ~100k. Also, I'm a runner so I would love to be able to stretch my left leg... dealbreaker, LOL. Try unplugging the wiring harness to the auto-stop, I heard on the Fords that disables it, worth a try for a $140 part?

24 now and a 16 prior. Agree on points 2 & 3. I’m still reaching for the gearshift lol. One complaint I have is with the paddle shifter. When u downshift on a hill for example so as not have to ride the brakes it accelerates first and then engine brakes! Like WTH? Totally annoying. 2016 with the 6 speed did not do that. Thus finding the paddle shifting useless. Really don’t need a 9 speed transmission, the 6 was better imo.
