Yes the dual action takes away the ability to have a damper on one side. I like the dual action much much more than I'd ever care to have a damped tailgate. But thanks so much for your honest assessment and review. I really enjoyed it.

Interestingly, the 1964-68 ford mustangs had what was called a “torque-box” that was in the same area; it is a box-like structure that tied the front frame clip into the rocker panels. The rocker panels carried the twisting force to the rear of the vehicle and into the rear frame clip. Your assessment is accurate, I believe.

Dang Dave, I absolutely love the shifting mechanism in my 21 Ridgeline. I live and drive in the Rocky Mountains year round. The paddle shifters are fantastic, instantaneously selective, very effective control up/down grade, adverse weather, snow, ice, slush, rain, rarely use my brakes. Practice with it, put it through a series of tests, I’m positive you will come to enjoy the experience and control.

The headlights (low beam and DRL) are LED for the Black Edition. But the high beams are halogen. The sensors for collision don’t activate in traffic/corners for me so it might be your truck.

Improvements needed to the 2024 up Ridgeline truck. Addition of an idle stopper, I did and love it. Reprogram an option to engage park upon opening driver's door like my Odyssey. Mine is slow to respond to P at times and almost hit my car cover before I got it stopped. The auto dimming headlight function is a joke. I know it can work on a Honda because my 2024 Odyssey does work well. The tailgate is 4 times as heavy to close than my 22 Tundra, 22 F250 or 21 Ram 2500. I do love the simplicity of the infotainment and remote start still on the remote, all my other trucks require an APP to work the remote start. The Ridgeline needs a way to install a front view camera, the others have one. Love the old school normally aspirated V6. My Tundra is currently in line for a new engine replacement due to the recall. Overall, this my favorite vehicle I have owned lately. I have had over 100 in my 61 years. I came out of a Lexus GX460 Luxury for the ridgeline. The fit and finish of the trim is not as good as the Lexus or the Odyssey but better than the Tundra 1794 or either of my other trucks. My experience with my local Honda service departments have been awesome and was the reason I dumped the Lexus at 24K miles. Overall, I love the truck and will buy another when the time comes.

Liked your video, I at 1st hated the looks of the 1st gen Ridgeline, then started carpooling in one. After a few months I fell in love with these trucks. After many years of full size Chevy, and fords I purchased a 2013 RTL Navi and I must say it could replace my wife. Very dependable. Quiet, now with 165,000 miles with minimal maintenance. Will eventually replace it with another new Ridgeline 😢. Maybe keep the old one around for early onset hoarding syndrome.

Shopping for new vehicle/truck and zeroing in on the Ridgeline. This was helpful, particularly pointing out that hump that keeps a left leg from full extension. I’ve rented cars with that hump and it becomes very uncomfortable during long trips, at least for taller drivers.

The standard high beam/ driving lamps also run at a lower voltage during daylight driving. With LED headlights that are whiter in color, the high beams are hardly noticeable being yellowish. I upgraded to LED driving lights which are great and very nice at night when you click on the high beams! I love my 2023 Ridgeline. Wish I could reverse the autostart feature light in the dash to only be on when the feature is engaged and not when turned off. They should have a programable option to reverse the indicator to your preference. I leave it turned off but have to look at a bright yellowish orange light that resembles a trouble light on the dash constantly.

Good points about the Ridgeline. Our 2015 highlander has a similar dead-pedal hump to the ridgeline, but they sit different somehow. I'm 6'3 and sometimes the dead pedal bothers me to. The Care Care Nut YT'er says the pushbutton is a result of the ZF 9 speed Honda used for the ridgeline. The adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and collision mitigation are all pretty bad in the Hondas. I haven't had any emergency braking but the warning has come up several times. The lane keep assist just disables itself with only a small, brief message on the dashboard that I never notice. The adaptive cruise control fluctuates the throttle too rapidly, creates a surging effect that you can see if you drive with the MPG slider. The good thing is you can disable them if they bother you, but like you, I would have liked a better working safety net with these systems. I have a 2024 RTL in white that I bought in May, I came from an 2006 f150 that I owned since new. I do miss the cab room, but I'm happy with my purchase. Thanks for the 2 videos with your shares on the ridgeline.

Just sat in my first Ridgeline today at the dealer. It might be a good fit for us, but we'll probably go with the Tacoma or Tundra. That raised foot section is pretty common on AT vehicles. The button shifter is different, but is less in the way than other AT methods. That does seem strange to not have LEDs everywhere...I've replaced many on our older 4runner and Sienna. The tailgate seems so tiny and light compared to the one on our F150, but I can understand that after needing to slam the truck one a bit. Glad to hear the safety feature is adjustable. We've had a similar problem on our '22 Sienna, but with cross traffic when at slow speeds, including starting to cross a street when the cars are still far away. We turned the feature off for a while, and I don''t think that was adjustable for us. I don't mind the auto-off feature on the F150, and am more bugged when it isn't triggered for some reason. It restarts when I start to let up on the brake, and is plenty fast. The new Sienna is a hybrid, so it uses EV at slow speeds anyways. But the F150 V6 ecoboost is so twitchy anyways that I just never completely mash the pedal when stopped. Without turbos or EV, the Ridgeline just wouldn't have as much low end torque, so it's not as easy to fly off the line. But is it really that bad, or is it just like the shifter that it is different?

I bought a New 2019 AWD 'T' model. Now 76000 miles in 5 years. I drive it locally daily around 20 miles. Comprising both 'street' and 2 lane paved country roads. Also take several, hundred mile trips to other states once or twice a year... I do the maintenance at my Local Honda Dealer (only 1 mile from my house) per the book and any free 'replacements' like the fuel pump warranty item and similar. I love the truck. (I call it a car that Can Haul 2 motorcycles and all my related supplies anywhere I want to go.) Including driving 'mild' dirt roads up in the mountains on vacations... I love my Gear Shift Lever! (NO buttons for me!) I also love the 'T' model's Right side-mirror Camera feature that goes on when you hit your right turn signal! THIS should be standard. :) I haven't seen anything in newer models I have thought was an 'Improvement'. :( No Thanks. I Love mine. Even considering the Expensive 100, K service at my dealer!) (Silly stuff like a Manual tappet adjustment system the SAME design as on my original 1967 Honda 50 motorcycle! But I will say....at least those tappets design are reliable!) :) Also: Expensive replacement of rubber timing belt 'requiring' replacing the Water Pump while you are in there!... and several similar items I think saves THEM costs in construction. Then WE pay extra for the service routine. But! I think it is utterly reliable and is worth it. (PS: I am a Toyota small pickup then New T100 and 'bought used' early Tundra V8 guy.) Both theT100 and Tundra were tough and decent priced to have the rubber timing belt changed! My T100 had 300K miles with regular maintenance when I sold it.... I LOVE my 2019 Honda! :D Newer ones? No thanks! :)

My Ridgeline is 2022 & I agree with your points. The left leg footrest, the trans buttons can be confusing (they could have just had multi-traction & auto start-stop buttons) just used a shifter. You’d think start-stop would wear out the starter. My daytime running lights are the LED “eyebrows” that curve around under the headlight bulbs. Also the accident prevention sensors, yeah, I was going to pass a slow truck, pulled around, guess I was too close so truck mashes brakes & vehicle behind almost rear ended me! Otherwise, yeah, love the truck but am leasing & only have months left. With prices I may get a Civic!!

I own a 2020, RTL-E, 42,000 miles. Agree with your points. Lane mitigation falsely activated perhaps 3 times during ownership. No braking, but caused the dash to light up and audible warning. The thing I dislike most is the momentary pause of the transmission when shifting from park, reverse or drive. Seems the tranny needs to ‘think’ for a fraction of a second. Otherwise, love the truck. Install a 2” front lift with the 265 Falcon tires. Will look so much better. Better clearance and no impact to drive ability. Also install an Oil Catch Can as the gas direct injection is very bad for the engine.

I have a 2017 Ridgeline. 100K miles. Once in awhile the collision mitigation has activated a few times when oncoming traffic was in their lane. I feel your pain with the auto stop/start feature, and the tailgate, I have a Mitsubishi Triton that has the same two features. I have to manually disable the start/stop feature every time, a pain because the button is hard to see/get too. Anyway, same with the tailgate, very heavy and no soft close feature. I really like the Ridgeline and will probably get one in the future, like you said about the issues, not really deal breakers. Some of the issues would be pennies for a manufacturer to fix and create a better driving experience for the customer which in turn would lead to more sales, a win win for everybody! C' mon Honda/Mitsubishi, get with the program!

I have a 24 BE Sonic Grey and its a good truck no doubt.. the engine, ride comfort , its quiet, interior space , awd system, dual action tail gate, in bed trunk all good things BUT at an MSRP of 48,200 for black edition sonic gray they really half ass it on some features/options.. i feel other trucks/suv execute these way better.. Adaptive cruise is not stop and go. it wont work below 25 mph. blind spot monitoring does not work below 20mph so you better be careful on your slow merges.. there are no front center parking sensors, they are only in the front corners so antyhing more centered it wont detect.. it wont detect a parking pole and in my case i have a tandem parking spot and it wont detect my other car when i pull up to it yes seriously.. the vented seats are too weak even on high feel like its barley working.. the vented seats in my grand cherokee work way better.. why no 360 or front cam option? also the only way to turn on reverse cam is the truck must be in reverse.. why no quick look view so i can quick check that all is good in my tow hitch setup .. why no hill descent control? its in a crv but not a ridgeline ,, why? and finally the bed is pretty shallow if you put a tonneau cover on you only have 16 inches of depth which is really restrictive in useability. hoping the next gen ridgeline has better execution on its options/features..

Wow, you mentioned every reason to NOT get a Ridgeline. Why did you even get one? Sure, it would be nice to have all of those things, but it wouldn't be 48k. I had all of that and more in my 75k Ram limited and wouldn't expect it on a 48k truck. I chose the RL because of the price and the features you get for that price.

@@Bansheemyk2001 lol yeah im pointing out a bit of dislikes but i also said there are good things about it.. on paper the BE looks to offer a lot of features. my dislike is that these features dont work as well as some other cars. my example is blnd spot monitoring, thats a great feature to have and lot of cars today have it standard BUT why does Honda set it not work below 20mph? that seems high. my GC went as low as 6mph. some do it even at a stop it will tell you somthing is there.. ACC doesnt work below 25mph. its like why do they kinda half ass these features.. my GC and Forrester had ACC with stop and go.. price point wise they are in same ball park.. so its like yeah on paper you see all these features and you're like great its fully optioned but then after you realize wow they dont work as good as same features i had in my other cars.. i took it for granted that seeing a list of features and i was set but didnt realize after using everthing that its not as good as some other cars.. that being said i still like how the car drives, its nice and roomy. back seat veratility with the flip up seats. the inbed trunk. the dual action tailgate. the engine seems to pull nice and seems pretty quick when you step on it. awb works well..the suv like drive is better than other mid size for on road daily driving. i also got a good deal on a lease so factor eveything in its an overall good truck to get as long as you are not needing serious off road capability.

-For the dead pedal, most vehicles have it like that.. -For the stop/start - I have a 2023 santa fe that has a button like yours to turn it off. I found the smallest zip tie I could find, cut most of it off and shoved the rest down beside the button. Hopefully that makes sense, so this keeps the button pressed down forever which turns the system off every time I start the vehicle and doesn't hurt anything. When/if I want the system on then I just remove the zip tie and nobody knows the difference. Cost a whole what.. 2 cents? See if this will work in your scenario.

Hey Joe. I really like your review of the Ridgeline. I currently have a 2013 Silverado 238.000 Klms and I love my truck but its getting up there in age and will eventually need to replace it, have you seen the price on new trucks. I see allot of the Ridgelines here in Ottawa Ontario Canada and I really like the looks of the vehicle, I would go with a cap to accommodate things we bring to the cottage in the shallow bed. You indicated that allot of your 5 things were not deal breakers and I agree. I am not a fan sun roofs as I do keep my vehicles for long periods of time and this would be a leak issue down the road but over all a great review very informative thanks for this.

Almost every youtube reviewer of a vehicle or person I talk to prefers a traditional shifter - instead of the push button shifter.. Like you mentioned - even a column shifter would have been better.. Not sure how a company like Honda (and Acura) would force every one to have use a push button shifter.. when most people don't want (and don't like) a push button shifter.. I have a 23 and the auto stop start will not work if you have your AC set up to hi you can lower your fans speed, but if you keep the temperature at hi it won't activate.Mine actually only activates when the AC is turned completely off. It's something about the battery pull that causes the on and off to not activate if you're using a lot of other electrical items in the vehicle to prevent it from not being able to restart. Also, you have to push the brake pedal all the way down, fairly hard to get the stop start to activate you'll learn the sweet spot of pushing on the brake pedal so that it doesnt activate I've had my collision management brake light come on if I am turning and there's a telephone pole etc , but it's never activated the brakes you can adjust the sensitivity in the vehicle settings. When I open my tailgate, I don't just let it drop like that can cause damage to the tailgate or camera even if you have an older truck you shouldn't just let it fall like that continuously. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the dual action tailgate as to why there cannot be a dampering on it.

The dead pedal hump is necessary to make room for left front wheelwell. The pushbutton trans is fine. The autostop defaults to ON each start to help Honda meet the mandated federal Corp Avg Fuel Economy (CAFE) levels. The rear tailgate can not function both ways if it's soft open. The Haligen lights can melt snow in northern climates. I believe there are LED repkacement bulbs you can substitute. None are really issues.

Honest assessment, Joe. 2021 Ridgeline Black Edition owner here and I love my Honda truck. I agree that the collision warning sensor seems too sensitive. I use the USAA auto insurance App and that bugger dings me if I move my phone (handling) or brake harshly (to avoid a collision!). That App and the AARP safe driver online course have made me more cautious by watching my speed, preparing for stops and never taking/making a call while driving. As a result, my insurance premium went down 29% on my latest renewal. The lack of LED lighting is because you have the RTL trim instead of the Black Edition. Personally, I don't know why LEDs aren't on every trim. I agree the tailgate drops hard, but I typically use the swing out feature. The gear selector buttons...I'm used to them. Ventilated seats would be nice.

I got used to the shift buttons but I'd prefer a column shifter because there is better use for that space on the console. Also the bezel around it looks like 2003 left their phone in my truck. My biggest complaint, coming from a Tundra, is that I have to take my eyes off the road to adjust the climate control mode or fan speed. The Tundra had big positional knobs, could use them with work gloves on (it's a truck, ya might be workin' out of it). On this, I can bump the temp up or down without looking but to adjust anything else climate wise, I have to look where to place my fingertip.
