Got a beauty of an St (a 2006) in June of this year (2019), had done under 60000 miles and I used your guide on what to look out for (Thanks a bunch!). Mine is left hand steered so it actually has a footrest which is great since I'm 6,2' (189 cm) and usually have a great number of strange problems regarding driving positions, I have none with the st strangely enough! I get exactly 7 Liters/100 km (40 mpg (uk gallon) on long journeys so no real complaints for me in that regard. What does bother me is the lack of an armrest as you pointed out, the turning circle is awful (it makes this tiny car a bit of a chore to park) and the wind-noice above 60 mph is on the irritating end (was expecting this though). A previous owner had it lowered which makes roundabouts even more fun ( the whole driving experience is one of the best I've had, especially on twisty b-roads) but potholes almost kills you and the car. Love the car and thanks a lot for clearing stuff up like the steering pump noice, the weird powersteering fluid resevoir location and other things that made me confident in buying probably the nicest st 150 in Sweden! Cheers!

Totally agree, my other complaint is the accelerator pedal is located too far left and is too high, as you can't heal and toe during braking.

Yeah they're a bit noisy but not broken! You can get a power steering reservoir relocation kit so the power steering fluid has a better chance to cool down and not break the pump! I've got a video on my channel of how to install them :)

I have a Ford Fiesta Zetec 2008 and mine use to make that noise when doing a full lock. It turned out that my power steering pump was defective because my car would shake so bad, when i was doing a full lock. Since i had a new pump installed, it makes very little noise now and the car doesn't shake.

@jaymono6498

Thanks! I'd say thing to be careful is listen for noises on the bottom end of the engine, apparently the camshaft doest handle slipping well and can break often, I'd walk away from a sale if you hear any bottom end knocking on the engine. I've seen lots of MK6 ST being sold as spares and repairs because of this. If its already lowered check that the drop links don't rub on anything as I've heard that can be an issue and can cause a knocking sound. Also be wary of their idling issues, initially when you pull off the revs will drop a fair amount and on some cars it will very occasionally stall, mine never has stalled though. If you're able to check for air leaks then do as apparently the stock hoses aren't the best on these! In my experience the only issues I've had are: Front wheel bearing failed, boot gas struts broke so the boot doesn't hold itself up and the idle issue which was present when I purchased the car. I'd still recommend them though, very nippy car and are very good in the corners on B roads aha!

Hi pal, nice Fez you have done some nice mods! I've got a full Toyo sports decat including manifold and it's unbelievably loud on motorway haha. Just a quick one, I noticed your steering looks really light, when I'm still and turn the steering the wheel gets so hard to turn. I've changed the fluid twice and it's till the same. Can you recommend a fix? Maybe new PAS pump?
@jaymono6498
@jaymono6498 6 жыл бұрын
Jonathan flynn thanks! Mines got a Scorpian Sports catback so it’s not silly loud, tempted go the de-cat route though. The MK6 ST PAS is located in a silly position, right next to the engine which basically cooks the fluid as it doesn’t have a chance to cool down. I’d suggest doing what I’m doing and buy a PAS relocation kit. It relocated the power steering reservoir next to the battery and runs the fluid lines to cooler sides of the engine. I might have a guide up soon how to do it, just gotta buy the parts and assess whether it’s something I’m able to do myself as I’m not a mechanic! Apparently cooked fluid can wreck the pump so it may have potentially cause some damage. Is your fluid still got some colour or is it black after each change?
@jonnyF06757
@jonnyF06757 6 жыл бұрын
JayMono the fluid looks black put when you dip a bit of kitchen towel in the towel goes dark red. Also if you do a fair amount of motorway miles I'd recommend not going de-cat because it's really bad. Knocking round town it's great but I'm gonna get the high flow cat back because the smell off petrol when you sat still with the fans on is slightly unnerving haha. Sadly I've been considering sell the fez as I'm fed up with its bad parts but really don't want to part with the cash for a new car so I'm watching your videos for inspiration haha
@jaymono6498
@jaymono6498 6 жыл бұрын
Jonathan flynn what I’ve heard is that when it turns black it’s basically been cooked by the engine heat - people have said it basically needs to have its colour or it’s bad fluid. Like I said I’m not a mechanic but my research has come to that, mine considerably black too, that’s why I’m moving the whole pump at some point. My commute is 40 minutes a day blasting down B roads... no wonder I get 27MPG aha! Cheers for the de-cat advice though, was only thinking of a de-cat as I’m attempting to get it running 200BHP by the end of the year and the sports cat might be a little bit too restrictive! As for MK6 ST inspiration I’ve got a few good videos coming up, a few things that I haven’t seen done on one before... annoyingly I’ve been waiting on all the parts to be delivered so I haven’t been able to make a video this week. I was on and off about selling and upgrading, but I’ve decided to stick with and just spend LOTS of money on her aha!
@jonnyF06757
@jonnyF06757 6 жыл бұрын
JayMono yeah I'll definitely look into getting either the PAS relocation kit or cooling kit if I'm keeping the car ( probably will) from what I've read on the forums the sports cat isn't actually that bad for restriction but if you have the money get both so you can get a good idea on which is for you because I feel you will like the de-cat but like me you won't think the advantages out weigh the disadvantages. Thanks for getting back to me and keep up your vids pal I'm definitely gonna sub!

It's actually interesting re-watching this vid after living with an ST150 for about half an year now. Used to watch your vids before buying the car to help me decide if i should get it and in the end it was definitely worth it. I'm a pretty tall guy(196cm.) so wanting to go for a small car is kind of unorthodox but for urban driving it's the best thing to be fair. The fiesta, however, proved to be more than fitting for a bug guy. I tried absolutely everything on the market(in my budged ofc. which meant only things about up until 2008) and only this and the fiat punto(post 2006) managed to fit me comfortably. Needless to say the ST was the better pick in terms of power and fun in general. About your list some things may not be the same for our mainland Europe models as: No 5. The steering and pedals being on the other side means there is actually more space next to the clutch so there is a foot rest there. Only thing is it's kinda hard to stick my foot on it around the clutch when I'm wearing size 48 shoes(UK12.5). Anyone with a smaller shoe size shouldn't have an issue but even I have a workaround by sliding it a bit from the front. No 4. I don't think anyone got this car for the fuel efficiency but I think it's pretty OK for a 2L engine. I manage from around 9.5 -10.5l./100 urban(27-30MPG) and trust me I like to hit the gas on every chance I get. On the roads i manage from 7-9l./100 ( 31-40 MPG) depending on what mood I am for pushing the car. IMO that's pretty nice. No 3. Haven't got this issue. Probably related to the wheel being on the other side. No 2. Absolutely agree. Rarely actually need a sixth but boy, would that help motorway travel and fuel economy on the rare occasion that I need it. No 1. I swear i used to park the C-max that I used to drive before this about 10 times easier because of this. And trust me that is a way-bigger car. Hope this helps someone watching this thinking about buying the car outside of the UK So that done, here's my list. Do not really hate any of em but more like things that could have been better: 5 - Not being able to pop the boot while the engine is running. Actually annoying when I(or someone else) have to make a quick unload. 4 - How easy the seat tilt handles(for retracting the seat to get to the back seats) seem to break. From the first time you touch these you just notice how fragile they feel and you just don't want to use much force at all. Recently a friend of mine seemed to not notice that once and there went the passenger seat handle after a little harder pull. New ones from ford are pretty pricey for a piece of plastic but luckily there are lots of choices on e-bay and I managed to get a pair for less than 10 quid + delivery. 3 - Since I have the full leather seats and summers are pretty hot here in Bulgaria, often hitting 35C and above in my city, you can only imagine how hot it is before the air conditioning manages to cool you and the car off. I do love the way the seats feel so that's more of a love-hate relationship. Winter's no issue as I do like the cold and for passengers that don't there's always seat heating. 2 - The steering. Amazing on turns and bends but oh man, I'm still getting used to parking this car. Feels bad when you could fit a way-bigger car more easily in urban parking and some tight spots that should fit the car are near-impossible to get into. Even if you do it takes like double the maneuvers it should a car of this size. 1 - The lack of aftermarket(even stock) goods at this point in time. Yes, this might be subjective and a little weird number one spot but as it is a 15 year old car many of the things that used to be offered for the vehicle when new are now gone or near-impossible to find at least from my part of the world and living on a different life standard deliveries do make a difference in cash. Some examples: Mountune or other similar tuning kits - gone mostly(especially the Mountune). Even if not gone most tuning company ready tunes are offered in the UK. Found a nice SWR kit that I want to get for the car in the future and gonna take an exhaust system as those are still available so there are options but they are limited. Still should be able to get the car to 190 so that's nice. Don't want more than that to be honest anyway. Tried searching for a nice fin diffuser i saw online - gone(or really hard to find at least). A soft pipe on my stock air intake system is split on one part - can't find a new one anywhere after checking with 3 shops that even checked warehouses in EU. Car runs normally as some tape does the job but gonna replace it with a sport intake anyway just for better sound. Another example is some parts for the car like emblems, the radiator grill are out of stock everywhere I check and mine have to be changed tbh. Even if not out of stock 40-50 quid for an emblem is just.. bleh. Honorable mention: How hard it is to take anything off this car. From the headlights and stoplights to the Engine( take reaching the PCV hose for example). Especially things around the engine being hard to reach does rack up more costs when servicing the car. Don't own a garage and I'm not yet tech savvy enough to DIY my car. Could be a good thing doe. Hey, nobody will be stealing my headlights anytime soon. Or anything on the car for that matter. In summary it's a nice car even for tall people as it is pretty spacious. Love how the NA engine feels compared to turboed cars so that's why i love this one. Limited for tuning but you can get it up to 190-200HP pretty easy. + if you have money and want to go all in superchargers are a thing. Like every car it has it's issues, bad and good parts. Fkin love it doe. For a next car definitely a MK2 focus ST. Or if I'm somehow rich by that point a MK2 RS but I doubt it. Could also get another low-mileage FiST and transfer the potential tunes to it. Choices, choices... Gonna stick with this one for at least a couple of years though.

@@kokobeliq Hi! No, unfortunately I crashed the car in January after not paying attention to a roundabout (used to go for time attacks on some mountain roads a lot but the funny thing is I crashed it when not driving dangerously at all). Now I drive a Peugeot 407 coupe as I wanted a GT car. Honestly the rough ride on the Fiesta was the thing I liked most about it. You can feel everything on the road with the ESP off and with the direct go-kart-like steering it was an absolute joy to drive. It does suffer on longer journeys and highways due to the shorter 5 gears. I used to drive it on a highway with about 100-110 km/h and averaged about 7-7.5 l/100. In the city anywhere from 9 to 14 l/100 depends on how you treat the throttle :d (based in Plovdiv). I used to do a full oil and fluid change every 10000km with Castrol which the car liked a lot. I miss the little thing but shit happens. Good thing the Peugeot has a sport mode for the suspension so I can sort of remind myself what it was to drive the fiesta on twisty roads. The V6 is lovely doe. Oh and if you don't have LPG on the ST150, definitely put one on the spare tire. Saves a lot of cash in the current fuel situation.

Nice to see a mk6 fiesta owner. I have a mk6.5 fiesta zetec s 1.6 TDCi and its great. One other thing which I'm sure is common on other engines is the crunch in reverse gear. I've found with me the crunch happens if I quickly change into reverse. Doesn't happen if I take my time changing into reverse. I also hate the seat tilt handles as those are prone to breaking.
@jaymono6498

JayMono would you say STs are reliable? I don't think I can keep my diesel for over the next 2 years as sadiq Khan is planning on putting a charge on diesel cars before 2015 in 2021 in the whole of London. @jaymono6498 6 жыл бұрын
If they're looked after they can be pretty reliable, however the ST's do have a pretty hard life being bash about around B roads as thats what they're made for, it can be hard to find a good example, mines fairly low milage, full service history, been well looked after, driven hard but given everything it needs to be driven how it is - just gets crappy MPG really. I've had mine 8 months, everything thats gone wrong with it in then 8 months has been my fault or the previous owners mishaps causing me issues later along the line. Deffo worth ditching any diesels before that charge comes in, just gonna be silly expensive to run.. BMW are a good shout, I always wanted one but I think if I upgrade next It will be either an Audi S3 or a Sliva S15... in a few years aha

All mk6 fiesta but the sporty ST have a cooling pipe on the PAS return line. On the ST the PAS tank is directly plugged to the pump and also very small. As a result the fluid soak heat and air and can boil. This causes the noise and can ruin pump. Solution is to relocate the tank or add a cooling pipe. Or for track use, do both.
@jaymono6498
@jaymono6498 6 жыл бұрын
R S I was think about getting a PAS relocation kit. Are they difficult to do? The ones I’ve seen mount it of the battery mount ad run the lines to the battery, is it just a case of disconnecting the lines and running them to the new PS location?
@rs9553
@rs9553 6 жыл бұрын
@@jaymono6498 you disconnect the low pressure hose (the Rubber one on top of the pas tank), you remove the PAS tank. You put an adapter where the the PAS tank directly connects to the pump. At this point, you plug hoses. One on the PAS pump adapter, and the other on the genuine low pressure hose. And between the 2, you plug a the New pas Tank. An usual location is close to the battery. To refill pas fluid, front wheels car jacked up. Add fluid. Start the engine, keep adding. Then turn steering wheel left to right and the oposite direction and keep adding fluid until its filled. If you dont lift front during fill operartion you will stress too much the whole PAS circuit without enough oil.

@@jaymono6498 Understandable. I get a lot of wind noise and tire noise. Sound insulation foils, such as Dynamat, are expensive wherever you look. In my country, people like to McGyver things, so they use industrial rubber, glued on the metal parts of the doors and floor to dampen the low-end vibrations, and felt on the plastic parts to dampen the high-end vibrations. I'm gonna try that with the doors first, as they're the easiest to get to. I'll update you as things fold out.

dodgy idle probably caused by broken PCV hose letting enter unmetered air into the engine. This hose is prone to break and is a pain in the ass to replace because it's BEHIND the intake manifold.

Yeah I definitely don’t think they thought about long journeys in these cars, and to be fair I don’t really drive it on long journeys much! I’ve got a RAMAIR induction kit too plus a scorpion sports cat back exhaust, I think it’s probably my exhaust system just being generally louder when sitting at 3-4K in 5th on the motorways so it’s a little bit droney. Billy Regan mine did the exact same when coming to a stop, a test would be to rev yours once you’re stopped and see if it settles to 900 straight away or if it hangs around above that/idles weird. It sounds like the same issue as mine. Basically you’ll only notice it at lower revs because the split in the hose is bringing more air into the system so the ECU matches that by adding more fuel. Can always try the easier route and clean you’re throttle body to see if that helps - mine was grim but it didn’t help the idle issue and made me reload that it was the split PCV hose
