Great video with a lot of good points! I have to disagree on the trans, I think the ZF provides the perfect amount of comfort and smoothness for daily driving, while being extremely snappy at WOT. I agree with you on the whole "BMW" thing. I don't even have a Supra, but everytime I talk about it, someone always has to say "it's really just a BMW" .. that gets old fast.

Yeah the ZF is a great transmission for sure. I just really have a soft spot for the clunky DCT in the GTR. I really love feeling the mechanical aspects. So for me I'm just getting board with a normal torque converter auto. The BW thing is annoying. Toyota literally kept taking parts and revising them to make this and the Z4 reliable. So both companies were just as involved.

For the stock tires it does. Hard to use the power when it spins the tires all the time in 1st and second. You literally cant accelerate quickly because it spins the tiers. I've heard a lot Supra owners who do the pure 800 turbo say it's so much better. The torque curve comes on much later and is less powerful. But the HP is much higher. So it creates a way smoother powerband where you don't spin the tires. Useable power is always the best power. Stock tires just don't let you use the power and enjoy it.

Hey for the trunk lock, you just need to turn those rubber grommets (raise them). Once you raise them, it will raise the closed height of the trunk deck so when you hit that button it will hold open when the air pressure changes from your door being closed. Try that out, let me know what happens.

Friend has an m4 and actually runs winter tires all year round in Chicago for the ride. He actually gets much better traction with the softer winter tires. Might be an interesting mod for your power issue.

Oh wow. I can see that making sense for him up there. We have about 9 months out of the year above 50. So summer tires are best. I'm just so used to the AWD and how the GTR on the same tires does anything I want. A lot of people seem to run wider r888 and those seem to get goo reviews

Awesome video! Just got my 2023 a91 manual Supra and I feel related to the next track button. It took me forever to realize the one on the left is not for next track, I had to google then realize the one on the right is the correct one lol.

Brian! Great video. You are really growing as a car reviewer. This is what we want to see. Idiosyncrasies of a car. When you point them out, it reveals the character of car. Not always flaws, just quirks. EVERY car has them and they are interesting when you point them out. I have a 21 Supra as well, all your points are valid but I still love my car. I love that it’s an outlier car and there’s not a lot around. Like you, I bought this car to fill the void until I can get a new Z after the heat dies down. I miss shifting but this ZF can be fun. The new z4 was basically a toyota design if you look it up toyota sent all parts back to bmw every time something broke during testing and told them what to fix to the point where every suspension part and engine part was a toyota design. Furthermore the internals of fhe B58 are different in the supra which is called B58C which is why it's peaky vs the z4s B58 lastly the ZF 8HP isn't even bmws.. it's a separate brand that even Chrysler uses

The normal mode gearing is meant to be chill and tame. I find if you give it the beans it'll downshift nicely and get you to a decent gear for passing and merging etc

Yeah it's just too conservative. I like how my GTR has more of an rpm setting for shifting in automatic. So it's more predictable. And the GTR can be easily tuned for when you want it to shift. Wish the Supra could be tuned like that

The drink holder placement drives me nuts haha if I don’t consciously think about it when I get in the car my elbow slams into the drink. Still love my mkv though. Thank you for showing your tach though because to me it’s so odd how it shows a gear shift before the gear shifts and I’m glad it’s not just mine

Yeah I always have my water bottle in it and my elbow hits it! Definitely annoying 😅 The gauge throws me off sometimes because I’ll see it in a new gear and then it changes gears

The new Z will be a great car! It probably wont be as refined as the Supra. But it'll be cheaper and have a manual. So they both will have some benefits

@@badrimatab93 Well being all Nissan, its going to feel 'cheaper' on the inside compared to the Supra. Driving the European car, you can tell they are premium brands. Drive a Ford Explorer back to back with a BMW X5 or Audi Q7. The German cars feel way more refined and higher quality. The Z is going to feel like a normal car while the Supra has that German refinement.

Hey Brian, you should be able to adjust the 2 stoppers on either side of the trunk to keep the trunk from relocking they just need to be turned out just a little bit that should do the trick enjoy the channel very much have a good one👍

@@zainey04 I'm super picky with that. I did adjust them to be as high as possible without changing the gap, and I don't think it helped. Wonder if someone can make a spring to replace the rubber piece. That way it really shoots the trunk up and keeps it there

Important recall for the brake assist Brian not sure if you know? Notice yr Apple CarPlay was no full screen I think (update fixes I hear). Good to hear about owner issues, the seats are bit of concern headrest/back as I’m 6’2. Test drive was fine, but longer in future is worry for when I get a GR Supra. Heard torque does make car wriggle a lot not in a good way sometimes.

I don't think my car was affected by that real. I only got the reverse camera brightness one. Seems bright enough for me, so I didn't have them do anything. I found the same thing in my first 370z/ The small seats were just missing something. A few months into that car I released they weren't that comfortable. Same thing with the Supra. They are comfortable seats, I just can't get them into the right position it seems. Te lowering springs helps a lot making the car solid with all the torque at least

From my experience in the M2 Competition with the DCT. I really enjoyed it. Not a fan that the new M3 and M4 have the ZF. I'd stick with the manual.

I believe that you have a Pedal Commander installed in your Supra. Would there be less tire spin if you dial back the settings on that device? Also, I recall the video that you made where you installed some coins inside the hatch lid "poppers" on your Nismo 370Z to push the lid up higher. Could this same "fix" be done on the Supra?.

Pedal commander actually helped. Because now the throttle response was more on par with my input. Before it, I’d end up giving it too much gas and it’d spin worse. There aren’t any springs on the hatch to do that unfortunately. The pressure that lifts up the hatch and the weight of it just don’t work well together. Needs somewhat to relieve pressure. Or just have to be more gentle closing the door

Yeah the trunk needs some sort of pressure relief whole. Most cars have one. Not sure if this does. Tundra interior looks amazing. Still not too sure about the front and rear end tho. Looks very bulky in videos. So I'll have to see it in person. But I like where they are heading

I wanted this car until I saw the horsepower, quite disappointing considering the price for this. Now as far as you opening the trunk..why not just use the keyfob to unlock it. My genesis coupe didn't have a button either I just used the key fob.. you had a genesis as well. or just don't completely close the door when u unlock the trunk. I feel the less features on a car sometimes is better, one less thing to worry about replacing if it breaks/fails.

Stock these put down 350 WHP and 400 wtq. Very healthy stock, Add a tune and downpipes and it puts 450 whp and 560 wtq. These are fast. It isn't that practical to use the key fob if its in my pocket. There is a button on the door, so when I am getting out I can just hit it real quick. I'd have to get out of the car all the way, dig in my pocket and then hit the button. A car at this price with the tech offered should just work very easy. Exterior button on my GTR and 370Z's was sooo convenient.

The differences between a Premium and a A91 Edition is that the Premium offers full leather seats. A Heads up display. The A91 has leather/Alcantara seats. No Heads up display, blue stitching a decal on the rear pillar and a wing. No other real difference especially none with the motor.

Technically there is no A91. Thats just a special edition package. The 2021 and 2020 have different engines. So you'll notice a bit more HP in the 2021. Thats about it. Honestly the MK5 Supra makes the same kind of power as the MK4. Put a bigger turbo on this and it makes 700hp on E85. These can be faster then the 2JZ just as easy

@@michaelevans2787 Keep in mind a MK4 Supra with 1000+ HP is not a stock car. The MK5 can make that power too just as easy. Both cars with just tuning and bigger turbos with stock motors and trans, can both make about 700 hp. And the new car shifts faster

I have an upcoming vid talking about that. Keep in mind I have 3 vehicles. And I live with my brother who has 2 cars also. And I work from home half the time. So I'm either in the GTR, riding the motorcycle or in mikes 2 cars. So 5k a year in one car is a lot

That's why I made this video . TO point out those things for future owners. Honestly you can't learn everything about a car from one test drive. I review hundreds of cars every year. And there is a huge difference from a 20 minute test drive and 2 years of living with it. Great car and like every car, it has some downsides.

haha. I actually only drove the GTR 3,500 miles the last year. I did a lot of highway mileage on the Supra. It's so much more comfortable. So it was nice doing the miles on the Supra while I could save the GTR for the weekends and most of the fun

I never said I couldn’t road trip or anything, bought a 23 manual Supra earlier this year! Absolutely love the car, even with some minor things. But no car is 100% perfect.

Toyota was just as involved in the development. They literally took all of BMW's parts and made sure they fit Toyota reliability. The revised the engine and everything in the car and pretty much told BMW how to build it. And they did all the tuning and exterior. A lot more goes into building a car then who assembles it

You really need to face the facts that your car has the heart and soil of a BMW with the skin of a Toyota. Annoying as it might be, it the truth and sometimes the truth is hard to except!

I know that, I never said I was disappointed in that, I knew that going into buying the car. Toyota and BMW collaborated in building this car, and Toyota tuned the engine to meet their specs. It's a fantastic car and BMW's are great and fun to drive. There's no cons of it having BMW at all.

Yeah those both would make the driving experience much better for sure. DCT in my experience last long enough. I don't care if my car doesnt last 150k miles. But many GTR and Huracan owners have 150k on them with 0 issues. So I don't agree with you saying they aren't good long term. Same people say that about turbo cars. They last just as long as a car needs too
