As someone who spent nearly 4 years in a wheelchair, you quickly become everyone's bag/coat holder (I often looked like a moving overburdened coat rack) on shopping trips and yes on moving days my chair was often used to ferry heavy stuff.......... with or without me in it. One day? Pff. Out in the sticks, we just start placing calls to friends with trucks and trailers. It's one beer allowed per trip and the fewer trips required = pizza+beer+bonfire sooner. But yeah, everything you said is 100%. Helping a friend move grants you a "no questions asked" favor. IE: "Come bail me out. Don't ask questions, just bring the money" -Edit: You forgot to mention our godlike Tetris skills when it come to loading furniture. Damn right I can fit that fridge into a Geo Metro!

Lots of us come from Viking stock, our DNA is based on picking up a heavy thing and then going in a straight line. And for fuel, we like the 2 things that make you most want to NOT do hard work. Beer and Pizza. And you can show up and tell your white friend you have a bad back and are just there to help with the light stuff, and they will say " Ok man, I understand, just help me move this piano down the stairs then ." And you can't say no. You have to tear every muscle in your body and act like you didn't.

And one more thing now you can ask your friend for anything. And I mean anything. You can call your friend and say I killed some body. I need your help to bury the body. If he says no. Just say come on man I helped you move. All he can say then is ok.

We moved my cousin and my aunt, respectively, to two different places in about 5 hours, total.....two sets of furniture, two sets of appliances, two sets of closets, etc. We had two compact cars and one full sized pickup truck. My cousin is a hoarder and still had everything from 1977 until now...including his Atari 2600 and ALL 178 game cartridges (as well as his collection of Star Wars memorabilia and movie posters). My aunt had every salt shaker, sweater and perfume bottle that she had ever received since 1954. We got it done before noon and then went to the Waffle House.

I got a moving story for you. A while back a friend of ours sold a house in Maggie valley NC, for some reason the house could not be sold with the furniture in it. So we left at 4am yes 4am and drove all the way there its like a 6 hour trip if you do the speed limit we did not we were there in 4 hours. We drove around for what felt like hours looking for a uhaul place finally found one then the fun began. It was the biggest truck they had one of the f550s I think. The house of course was on a hill with a small area to park a car that's it. We got it about half way up the drive way and couldn't go any further as the drive way had a 90 degree turn and a 6ft drop on one side and about a 100ft on the other. We had to take everything and take them down about 50ft of driveway on what felt like a 60 degree angle then load them in the truck. It took for ever to do this. On the way back we found out the uhaul was restricted to 72 mph so the return trip was longer we got home at about 11 that night

+IDreamOfDragons O That's nothing, my husband, sister, her husband and I drove from High Point, North Carolina to Fort Smith, Arkansas, loaded a lady and her husband and all their things into the U-Haul and drove back to High Point, North Carolina in 1 day. We didn't even stop to sleep at any hotel, we just switched drivers. This was July 4, 2005. OK, so it took two days driving time, but the essence is 1 day because we never stopped to sleep and moved everything in that one trip.

Preach brother! Gotta beater truck as my secondary vehicle so you better believe everyone I know asks me to help them move. Top notch beer and food is always provided. That being said when I moved last year I planned it perfectly when all my bro-in-laws were in town including the one from Ireland. Put those boys to work. Got that sh*t moved in no time. We were outa the old house and into the new in a day and a half. And that is for a multigenerational home. Gotta say Christmas 2019 was furious and epic.

All true. And when we are done, you got someone in the corner who's got your back through thick and his brother thicker.

100% accurate, all of it. But you forgot we will feed you really well - like really well. I helped one friend move, an Italian lady friend of our family, she made sausage and peppers simmered in homemade marinara sauce, garlic rolls, fresh salad with homemade dressing, all the fixings.

I loved this! I am a professional mover. I don’t get paid to move other people’s stuff, I have been moving since I was a kid. ( not because of military either). Sounds like you had light weight stuff. All my stuff is heavy. I don’t always make it in one day, but usually go until it’s done. I usually do it all myself. Sometimes someone will help load a particularly large item, but on my own at the other end. When helping someone else move, we had a couch with the hide a bed unfold over the upstairs rail of the stairs. Fun times. I’m hoping to get a large Rv. When it’s time to move, start it up and go.
