Children under stress stop learning. That’s been the best advice I’ve received. Learning to pause and come back to something when my struggler starts getting frustrated. He’s a whole new person after just a year homeschooling. 💕
@tamarar.4642

I have done that often. When we do go back to it she usually learns it in two days or less. I’ve learned sometimes her brain isn’t ready for certain things. We took her out of school because I was pulling teeth to get her IEP setup. The first three months of homeschooling I taught her everything she was struggling with. I didn’t care if it took two weeks. If she didn’t understand a step, I broke the lessons up in smaller lessons. I can’t count how many nights I was up to 2am. I found out my husband was great at helping me figure out rhythms, poems, games, and songs for difficult topics lol 😂. He’s good at that but not a full week of homeschooling lol 😂. He took over when I was sick. He was running back to work after that one week lol 😂.

Exactly, the modern schooling system can frustrate students to the point where they are not able to live up to their fullest potential. People learn better when they don't feel rushed by the teacher to finish, when they have the freedom to learn at their own pace.

The best homeschooling advice I ever received was from my husband. He told me "It doesn't matter what level our child is on at the time, that is why we homeschool, so that we can let our kid learn at their own pace!" In the beginning I was so worried about my daughter "catching up" and then I realized, catching up with who? We can do what we need to, when we need to as long as she is learning we are right where we need to be!

The best piece of advice I was given was from my oncologist right after I was diagnosed with uterine cancer. He said, "Yes, you have been given an awful diagnosis however, don't sit around dwelling on what might happen & that your life is over. Leave here with the mindset that you are going to live every single second of your life to fullest!" From that moment forward to present day, I have never looked back & felt sorry for myself or worried about the future. I treasure every.single.second of my life with my babies, my husband & everything. My only regret is not enjoying things so much more beforehand. =)

The best advice I was given when my oldest son was born over 34 years ago. His doctor told me the day he was born to remember that it was important for me to take one hour a day for me. I’ve stayed true to that and it has been the best advice I have ever been given. I take 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night. I do exactly what I want to do for me. It may be a nap, reading, walking, planning my personal goals, etc it doesn’t matter. What matters most is to remember I am a person as well as a mother, wife, daughter, etc.

I do the same thing! I love getting up before everybody to have a cup of coffee, check on my garden, and just smell fresh air. At night I look forward to reading and catching up on one of my ID channel shows lol 😂. Once a month my husband will say” LEAVE YOUR MOM ALONE! She’s off I’m on! Now what ya want.” Lol 😂. He got on me one time because I was giving her a good night kiss. He told me “Now you know a kiss will turn into questions and a long story about something. “ lol 😂 I hadn’t seen her all day because I was reading a good book in bed.

Right bc that’s the point of homeschooling, which I love. Kids can learn at their pace! When I was in school, I knew I needed extra time sometimes to grasp the material. It would take me longer than others to master something and by the time I’d mastered it, we had already moved on to something else and grasping that now was a challenge. I wish my parents would’ve homeschooled me so I could’ve gone at my pace.

The best piece of advice (after having kids) was “no one knows your kids better than you, and no one wants better for them than you do”. And yes! Yes! Yes! To a difference between homeschool and doing school at home! Last year was our first year, and felt like we did school at home. We even used a Christian curriculum that was written for a school setting. I felt like it was what we needed, at the time, for our first year...but I’m so excited to do our own thing this year!

Homeschooling is hard, but such a blessing! I once read something that really spoke to my burnout with homeschooling, when I was comparing myself to everyone else who I thought “had it altogether”. It said, “If God had wanted your children to be homeschooled like the children down the road, He’d have given them to those parents, instead of to you.” God purposefully gave your children to you. He knows you can teach them, and that you will do so in a way that works best for YOUR family.

Best piece of advice that I now live by for me and my whole family. "Be mindful in everything you take into your body and life." When I eat or grocery shop I ask myself "how can this nourish my body or my children." It has helped me be more mindful of what we are putting into our bodies. I grew up eating alot of processed food so this was a huge change for the whole household. It's also helped me be more mindful of who we accept into our lives. *Subscribed to newsletter*

I was a new momma who only wanted to hold my baby all the time. Everyone was telling me I had to put him down and I just didn’t want to. And my aunt said “Nicki, you do what is right and good for you and your babies. Don’t let everyone else tell you how to raise your baby.” And 7 kiddos later I still live by that and share it with new Mommas always.

I was told by a Pastor who ran a laborious food pantry from his NYC church “life is about people”. As obvious as that is, it was encouraging to hear it after spending an exasperating day doing a thankless job. My husband and I spent the summer in that ministry then moved back as missionaries for a year and that advice kept us going.

The best piece of advice I’ve been given (and I have to remind myself of it often in regards to my special needs kiddos) is that even if we have IEPs, therapists, and coordinators in the mix, I am still the mom. I know my children better than anyone and I am capable of advocating for them.

The best piece of advice I ever got was from my Grandma. It was more of a conversation we had when I was having a particularly hard day in middle school because some girls made fun of me for what I was wearing/how I looked. She said, “Well Sweetie, comparison is the thief of joy so imagine how unhappy those girls are. They compared themselves to you and were so unhappy with what they found they felt the need to break you down to make themselves feel better. You just keep being spectacular you and maybe one day those girls will learn how to be their original selves by your example. You weren’t put on this Earth to be a clone so take pride in your individuality. Your critics will be watching you, so how about you show them how it’s done.” After that day I realized my view of those girls completely changed and nothing they said hurt me anymore. Not only that, but I started to notice little pieces of individuality in the kids around me. If the kid in my science class had shoes that no one else had then I would compliment him on it. That conversation shifted my views and interactions with others for the rest of my life.

My best ever piece of advice was last year and it hit me so hard! It was, "you know what is best for your child and his needs." That right there...is what made me decide to homeschool! Thank you for all of your videos!! And helping this newbie homeschool momma along the way!

One of my favorite pieces of advice was: just because it wasn't done your way, doesn't mean it wasn't done right. I tend to be a smidge of a control freak, and my former boss/friend said this to me during a venting moment I was having, and it literally made me stop and think. I have since used it on many people and moments in my life and it never disappoints! :)

I would say the best advice is to enjoy your kids in every stage of life while they are in it... bc they won't be in it very long. We all have days where we struggle or we think things just aren't working... on those days I try to just take a step back, breathe, and remember to enjoy us, just as we are today. If that means chucking "school" for the day and getting outside to play, or puling out our favorite board games then so be it.

The best advice I’ve been given is impact is more important than intent. Sometimes, you have the best intentions for what you do or say but the impact of that act is negative. If you consider impact first, you’re decision making can be totally changed.

I am so grateful for you and this channel! I have a now 6 year old and a 3 year old. I’ve come to terms that we will be homeschooling to live life together! Your videos have really helped along the way! I know this one is two years old but it resonates with where I’m /we’re at through our homeschool journey. I’m considering going to a homeschool convention here in my state coming up this July. I think and hope it will be beneficial to attend.

Best advice is actually something I stumbled upon, when the burnout starts to show... don't be afraid to take a few days to relax and then come back. My kids are full of energy and love to be playing all the time. We recently hit some burn out as we are about 10 weeks in. Giving the kids this next week to just take a break , which will help with school and their mental health. Plus my husband is taking a surprise vacation from work so he can spend sometime with them all week playing and doing their favorite things. Thanks for all the homeschool videos.

I'm planning on home schooling and it won't be hours a day and be thaught the basics in life. Todays times are terrifying & the things they are learning in school are things they don't need to be exposed to & even before this BS the stuff learned in school was just mostly unnecessary. You seem honest about the stresses of it & that's part of what i want to know along with doing this. thank you for putting something out here for all of us newbies.
