I'm 58 and have the tin dustpan my father made as his shop project in school. He's 85 now. I still use it in the garage almost daily. Works better than a store-bought plastic one. Two thumbs up for your case recycling and keeping the memories alive in your cutting board.

That is very cool about your fathers dust pan. I also made one 50 years ago in metal shop class out of galvanized sheet metal and a flat steel bar bent for the handle with a loop to hang it and all spot welded. I still remember making it in class and I use it almost daily as well. Very simple design and it's the very best dust pan I have ever owned. It will be handed down to my son and I know he will love it too.

Years ago I was seeing some girl that had a dog. Her dad was yelling at her to clean up all the dog shit in the yard. He glanced at me and I was smiling. He asked why I was smiling. I told him that he should pick up all the dog shit and place it in a box. Then let it sit outside to freeze. He then can wrap the box in Christmas paper and place a little to:/from: sticker on it. He could then let the thing sit in his unlocked car for someone to steal. He did this laughing the entire time. Two weeks later he called my laughing his ass off. He said someone stole the present when he was at Walmart. My girls friend got out of cleaning up after her dog and her dad got some jollies. Some thief's girlsfriend got a nice Christmas present.

One idea I suggest (and will be trying myself): to keep some of the rigidity of the PE HD cases, rather than cut out the inner layer that was preshaped for the power tool, heat it up with a heat gun and see if it will sag down to the shell on its own. It may need help into the corners, and maybe a pinhole on the outside connected to a shopvac would pull it down well. 🤷‍♂️ But this seems like a good way to open up the storage space, without cutting out the material, possibly strengthening the body? Great video! Thanks for the inspiration!! 👍🏼

I don't own a heat gun yet, but is there a chance that it would melt the outer shell as well?
@rainger66
@rainger66 7 ай бұрын

You're on to something with the dad diaper case. The last thing men want to carry around is pink or baby blue floral diaper bag with lace trim. Now what to do with all the cords I've cut off things " yea good repair cord" along with the other 50 to 75 in the drawer or old light fixtures. ...🤔🙈( it will go away, it will go away) lol

Hooray -- great ideas! My brother can get pallet loads of like-new cases from a company nearby that pulls the tools out for use in its huge shop. The tools get used until they break and then get tossed. Cases sit in stacks in a corner until guys like my brother come along. While some are immediately useable for actually putting tools in (like ones that came without cases or in soft totes), many of them are just too specifically designed to use for some random tool that might need protection. So, they sit around waiting for inspiration.....like this. Thanks!

The diaper kit is pure genius! I love it, if I had littles around I'd be building it for me right now! But here's some improvements to the design: add some straps with quick release snap buckles so that none of the stuff falls out when you open it. Equip the lid side with a large pocket to stash a change pad, and a couple small pockets to keep a few empty plastic bags for soiled clothes, etc.

Dang just pitched a whole stack of Dewalt boxes in the recycling bin, about 2 weeks ago! They do take up lots of space & it seems like everyone gets to where they don't put their tools back in them. Mine are all nicely organized in large metal cabinets in garage. Who doesn't like popping the door open & admiring a good Dewalt selection! Great, great work on repurposing all those!

More ideas, thanks. Always hated carring tools loose. I have old steel cases for my Skilsaws. I modified a Dewalt box to carry a 1/2in impact wrench and a 1/4in compact impact gun, for going to the junk yards. Carries both with batteries attached and a spare 4ah battery. When going to help my son with projects, the same case carries a 1/2in drill motor and 1/4in impact gun. Old cases are handy.

I don’t know why it never occurred to me to cut out the inside tray. My own tool boxes are still holding the tools that came in them, but I see them EVERYwhere, and they’d be great for storing photography gear, laptops, camping gear, picnic-ware, sewing supplies, pet supplies, emergency kits... The list honestly never ends.

@@youhaveinfinitevalue5755 Hi! I can describe what I did. Here goes: I used a Dewalt drill case and a Dewalt 18V battery for power. Alligator clips connect the battery to the circuitry. I installed the following in the cover: 12V indicator light with "Armed" label; momentary push button switch; 3.5 mm mono audio jack (for safety key). The "Armed" indicator light is wired from the load side of the safety jack to negative battery terminal to indicate key is inserted. Key is 3.5 mm mono plug shorted at connectors. I put a labelmaker label on it pendant style reading "Safety Key". It just completes the circuit to the launch cable. For that, I used about 30 feet of 2 conductor stranded (18 or 20 AWG ?) with small alligator clips for the ignitor. Black to battery negative, red to load side of push button. Cable, motors, key, and ignitors all fit inside. If I recall correctly, our rocket fit in there too. Hope this gives you enough info. Be safe!

I did demolition in HS and it's been 25 years but I still have an empty circular saw case I found on a job. I immediately cut out the inner parts like you did and made it a place to store important things for the car. One side has a reflective thermal tarp held in with velcro straps and the other side has the same for things like a couple flares, packs of batteries and maglight, a pair of winter work gloves and a few other things like that. I've actually changed vehicles three times and that case still comes along for the ride just replacing the batteries every few years just in case. It's probably the oldest thing I still own, and will likely always own, since I graduated from school.
