Power Washing Plus but 90% of my business is fence work. I built one fence 3 years ago and bam. It's been a huge learning curve. Thank you for your advice.

Hello Joe. Thank you. I live in NC and am seriously thinking about starting a fencing company. Would you consider mentoring a late blooming adult who is going to try to make a go of it? Regardless I appreciate the time and effort you put into making this video for the rest of us. May God bless you!

Joe Everest 1-know your numbers, such as your Daily Overhead cost. That was a big one for me. 2 - Know your worth, dont be scared to be highest bid, although not the goal. Be concerened when you are the lowest bid, especially when consistently the low bid. 3 - Be professional and appear professional in every aspect. Have a professional website and social media platforms. When meeting customers wear a collared shirt if possible. Keep clean looking trucks and equipment, not necessarily new. An “Oldie but goodie” 4 - Be responsive to customers. Respond quickly to phone calls and provide a quick turnaround on estimates. 5 - Treat your employees like a team member, not just an employee. You will get a bad apple here and there, but good ones will want to work for you if they feel “wanted” and and a part of the “TEAM”. Buy them lunch every once and a while and thank them for a good job. Praise in public, discipline in private. Bonus Tip: “Pre qualify” or filter your customers. Come up with a way to make sure they are serious on the phone call so you’re not wasting a couple hours on meeting them and figuring the estimate.

I'm in NY and having trouble finding a straight answer. Do I need any license to install professionally? Or can I literally just start advertising for building 6' cedar picket one day as long as I'm good at it lol I feel like people would ask to see if I'm legit

No contractors license? Approximately 54% of states require a contractors license for a fencing company.
@davidmacklin17282 жыл бұрын
I didn't hear licence or is that not needed
@JoeEverest2 жыл бұрын
Likely depends on the area, in our area one is not needed.

How to keep more people from competing in the Fence Industry: “Tell them to save 12 months of savings before starting a fence company” There are many more edges to being competitive that I know you meant mention here (and I won’t either) lol
@JoeEverest Жыл бұрын
Plenty of people get into the industry with a pickup and a credit card. But, that’s probably why most new startups last 3-5 years.

No you got to put the hard work in first put your time in working with a few really good installers learn the business inside and out I'd even recommend working at a wholesaler for short time you can set up an LLC or DBA get a license and insurance start subbing for somebody why you build your brand up but you got to put the work in

I have been doing it on the side for yrs most of my work comes word of mouth and I have non of what was suggested in this video now I agree to run a legit company all of this is needed but when I talk to a potential customer I explain that yes I can do they work as good as any named company but u the home take on responsibility u need to pull the permits get the utilities located and I lay out exactly what I need to do to give them the fence they want and I get them to sign a agreement statement and if something needs to change I talk to them and it gets added in... I also turn down a lot of work if I get there and looking at everything and talking to the homeowner if I feel that the work is more then I can handle or that something might happen I politely explain that hiring a fence company would be best for there needs
