If you go to Bootcamp out of shape it increases dramatically the chance of you getting injured or suffer from extreme soreness. All the guys that were couch potatos and showed up to Bootcamp out of shape suffered injuries, from minor injuries and issues like shin splints and extreme soreness all the way to knee fractures and hip issues. Believe me, you don't to extend your Bootcamp experience for being negligent before joining. You don't have to become an athlete overnight but just make sure you run and train your body before you go.
@johngeffrard49702 жыл бұрын
How about the guys that were skinny and didn’t workout how did they do?
@jmsantiago12 жыл бұрын
@John Geffrard most of them did all right for the old PT test. It's not hard to do push-ups, situps, and run when you are skinny, but that being said they absolutely sucked at ruck marches. Just think about a 200lbs big dude putting on a 45pds backpack vs a 110/130 skinny small dude putting on a 45pds backpack
@jmsantiago12 жыл бұрын
@John Geffrard also, I don't know how they are doing with the new fitness test, but if you are skinny, small frame, and never worked out, I imagine the 155pds min deadlift weight and the sprint drag and carry would be very difficult for them.

I enlisted in the early 1980s, before there was internet, etc. Basically, I went in with the "Failure is not an option" attitude. More tips: - get your drivers license before Basic Training. - get a checking account in your name alone before Basic Training and set up direct deposit. (a 16 year old had joint account with his mom who was a gambling addict, lost all his money) - figure out which MOS you WANT and WAIT for it. You'll be stuck doing that for years so might as well be something you like.

Why get your license?
@tibivaslo Жыл бұрын
@@rustybuckshott1810 For your own safety. The Army will give you a 2-week drivers course and then hand you the keys to a humvee or even a 5-ton truck with a trailer. TO A PERSON THAT NEVER DROVE A VEHICLE BEFORE. No civilian drivers license, no problem. I saw it. It's not safe. So might as well learn how to drive before you join and get your license.

Prepare for the possibility that your relationship with your significant other (girlfriend) could end. If she truly loves you she will still be there, if not she won’t. Not all relationships are the same. I’ve seen both ends of the spectrum. Many relationships remained intact and some didn’t. No matter what, always remember why you joined the Army and keep your eyes on the prize. Best wishes. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

The biggest advice for the ASVAB is to invest heavily in the math portion. I say study for the math helps with your GT score that can help with your overall score.

In the seventies I was on the cross country team and a mile/two miler on the track team. That helped me when I enlisted. Running in basic was pretty easy... I even carried Charlie 8 2's guidon. My recruiter told me to keep my mouth shut, do it right the first time, and don't draw attention to yourself. I followed his advice. And I remember when the Drill Sergeant (caps intended) called out my name in the barracks somewhere around week five. I responded and he looked at me, looked at some paperwork, and asked me..."Who the hell are you and how long have you been here?" "All the way, Drill Sergeant...Trainee Owens...Day one!" GT Score 138 helped him, even though at that time I didn't know what a GT Score was. Next thing I knew I was in front of the Trainee of the Cycle Board. And ..I was selected! Recruiters told me to keep quiet, do it right the first time, and stay low.

Christina? I'll assume that was auto correct. But I see all comments. Just might not be able to reply to them all. I would say find a good diet that works for you and add in lots of cardio. That could be starting off with long hikes and work your way up to long runs. Just be sure it 45 min or more and allow time for your muscles to recover. So maybe run on Monday and do something else Tuesday before you do cardio again on Wednesday. Good luck.

Just popped in my feed. Always fun watching an old vid. Y=5. Good luck to everyone thinking about joining. I ended going to a recruiter took the practice ASVAB. Scored really well. He said you could take the PICAT. I said I’m already here so let’s do it. A long day of testing but I passed with everything over 112, overall score 76. Which basically put me in the position to choose any MOS that didn’t require anything specific like a degree or something. I wanted 12W, because it interested me the most. I liked building things. Ended with 12R. But from what I was told a lot of engineering jobs are rare too get, so I was still happy. Got skills that actually helped outside of army. Doing it again this summer but going to national guard. Have a family now and a decent business but still miss the Army. A few weekends can keep me rolling along. Everyone’s experience is different with the Army but hell that’s true for ANY job. Some people love working at McDonald’s others hate it and have shitty bosses. Just how it goes.

Some people in that situation I've seen pay to transfer their military experience to college credits to get points from the civilian education. If that is still not enough then your friend might get the option to reclass to another MOS with lower points so they can get promoted. Maybe another 68 series MOS.
