I've heard some of these before, esp. stopping completely before engaging into R or D, but I never heard about the hill thing before. This is very useful information, and I sometimes do park on a hill where I live, and I do put the parking brake on, but not in the order you mentioned, which now makes total sense to me. Thanks.

I noticed many times back in my Genesis Coupe that if I parked on the trans, it was just so hard to get out of park. Definitely don't want to snap that pin! Glad you liked the vid!

What I've been wondering, about modern automatic transmissions, is, if they still start to drive if you take the foot off of the brake at stand still. This may be a stupid question - I don't drive automatic transmission cars - but, with current, high-end, electronically regulated drive trains, one would think that they could make it so, that it only accelerates - and, thus, only engages the gears - when you apply gas.

Most of them will do that on flat ground. More tech savvy cars like my Supra tho. If you are on a hill it does have a hill assist. Car won't move until you hit the gas. You can feel the brake disengage when in a hill. A DCT transmission will be more like a manual car in that regard

So fair warning in a 120k 335xi tried to break launch the torque converter didn't properly lock in through about 3 gears would not recommend in any high mileage cars

You can do both. But nothing wrong with leaving it in drive with your foot on the brake

As far the neutral thing..The echo mode in BMWs actually disengages the transmission when your coasting, just like putting it in neutral.. When you press the gas pedal it automatically reengages drive. Does it not do that in the supra?

Not all. CVT is very basic with how it works. There are no gears. But it's still good to park on the ebrake rather then let all the weight on the trans

Would any damage be caused if you are completely stopped and turn off your engine while the car is still in drive?

Shouldnt. Most likely the car will just beep at you and tell you to shift to park. In the Supra it automatically puts it into park. Half the time Id just come to a stop and shut it off and not even press the P button for park

I don't have P in my car, only N D and R . hand brake. What to do when on hill to park?? I always keep it on D with Handbrake

Depends on what direction your car is parked on the hill. If its facing straight looking down the hill leave it in R with the handbrake, if you're parked facing the top of the hill then leave it in D. The idea is that if the hand brake fails the car will be fighting against the transmission to move. If gravity wants to pull the car backwards but the transmission is in D it wont let it since the gears would lock up. Also turn your wheels towards the curb so if the car does roll it will land against the curb.

Hey @Bros FOURR Speed would it be better to manually downshift with the brakes or without the brakes? What would be good shift logic ?

It wouldn't really make a difference. Just try and maintain the proper gear for the driving circumstance. When manually shifting you might notice downshifts happen quicker when slowing down, and upshift happen quicker when accelerating

Now you suggested in your video different ways of parking on the hill. Now if you had to park on the hill what format would you go with. So you wouldn't fill a jerk changing gears.

Neutral drops is probably the best way to destroy the automatic transmission. Probably does the same damage as dropping an auto transmission from about 10 feet off the ground onto hard concrete. Thank the almighty that you didn't demonstrate that with the Supra....🙏😳🙏
