I moved to a mountain town in Colorado from Florida, and I had my all season tires and the wiper fluid I had in Florida. Basically the wiper fluid froze the entire winter, because winter up here at 9-10k feet, once you get into Late December, you're not getting above freezing until about mid April to Early May. So basically my wiper fluid was frozen the entire first winter I was here. My all season tires were rock solid when driving because it would stay in the teens and 20s every day. Luckily I worked from home and everything was in walking distance, so I didn't have to drive hardly at all. But holy crap when I had to drive, it was scary. My Subaru now has a brand new set of snow rated all weather tires for most of the year and I have a nice pair of snow tires. The difference is night and day. If you have AWD with snow tires, you're not going to get stuck, and you're not going to be slipping and sliding as much. Plus, you know, you can actually stop because your tires aren't hard as stone, they stay soft. I also put in wiper fluid rated for the weather here, and I keep about 2 gallons of the stuff in my car at all times because you have to use it so much.

I don't understand why people would buy wiper fluid that freezes. I don't even think they sell that stuff here, I've never seen it.

In order to drive in the winter, you have to be able to get into your vehicle. A good tip to mention is for drivers to treat the door seals with silicone or wax to keep the doors from freezing shut before you encounter freezing weather. If they do freeze shut, use cold water to free them. Do not used heated water because it could cause your vehicles expensive windows to crack.

Quick tip, if you don't want to carry a motorized tire inflator, a bike pump will suffice. I swapped out the rubber hose with an automotive vacuum hose (probably silicone) and it doesn't get stiff or crack in winter. It doesn't take much to top up the pressure. From empty to 32 PSI for 16 inch, maybe 3 mins for each tire.

All batteries are junk now a days. I've spent $300 on a battery only for it to last 6 months. Bought a $150 battery for my ATV and after 3 months the battery post broke off. While my $30 lawn mower battery has lasted 5 years and with now charger or maintainer it fires up every spring. I just changed the battery in my 2016 Silverado cause the remote starter wasn't working, thinking it was a weak battery and it was a stupid hood latch sending a code the hood was open. It was the original battery from 2016/2015 maybe with a GM logo on it and it was still working. Had a optima redtop last 6-7 years so bought a new one and it lasted 5 months, under warranty but still not like they used to be. I'ld rather but a cheap battery every 2 years then an expensive battery every 3 years.

All-seasons work just fine, especially when you have 4x4. I just throw some sand in the back of my truck in the winter. Works just fine. MN isn't all flat either, we have river valleys, bluff country, small mountains in the NE, cities like Duluth have insanely steep streets like SF. The flat areas are in the western part of the state.

@qre268Zrtb
@qre268Zrtb 5 сағат бұрын
I can only assume that the manufacturer knows what pressure a hot tire will increase to, so they also know the pressure it should be cold. Hence they will recommend a cold temp setting, with the knowledge that it will then increase to the optimum temp setting.

Like Scotty stated, always inflate your tires to recommended pressure which is on the door jam plaque. Some older cars the plaque was in the glove box. As your tires heat up it expands raising air pressure 2-5 pounds depending on how much you drive which is better for fuel economy & safer than having them under inflated. Hope this helps. Stay Safe Out There 🙏

If I'm not mistaken, your 1990 Jag has error codes you can retrieve by counting the blinking lights by turning the ignition key in a specified sequence to 'accessories' position only. A good electric meter is required to test the ohms (resistance) of sensors to determine if they might be faulty. You have to understand what sensors report to what to locate problems. The good news is there's not as many sensors and gadgets under the hood on a 1990 Jaguar to sift through. Odds are a vacuum line or vacuum leaks (multiple locations typically) of old hoses and gaskets will be where you'll want to begin. Vacuum pressure of the engine even affects when an automatic transmission shifts. It's what I'd start with in a car with limited diagnostic information.

The cold and me do not agree!🥶😬 Cold vehicles are brittle. Plastic pieces break easy. The transmission in my 1998 Sienna doesn't like 15 degrees either. 😂 it yelps out 5 seconds of moaning in various pitches after my 3.0 ignites!😳 I always let the high idle kick down before I shift into gear. It won't shift into 3rd gear for the first 1000ft. I don't force a shift. I let my Scooby van rev in 2nd @2500rpm and when the trans fluid circultes and warms just a tidbit, she shifts. I changed the transmission filter assembly 5qts CAM2 semi synthetic, added a 12x12 cooler, and left some original fluid to mix in. Never change all the trans fluid in an old vehicle! The ice cold moan did not go away, but it's not as grumpy! 🥳My transmission works perfect afterwards. Anytime I cold start after its wake-up moans, she runs flawless and quiet. My van has to sit in 20degrees or colder a good 12hrs for it to moan again.

I thought plastic will sit in a refuse dump for 1,000 years before it breaks down. But a piece of steel or iron will degrade into rust/dust in a few years. 🙂

My 2015 VW Passat TDI, had to have its battery replaced this year. I did not have to test it. As December came, it got colder here and when It is too cold, my diesel car needs to heat the glow plugs before it cranks the motor. So when the starter turned over slowly and sounded like it was not fast enough, I just went to get another VW battery(yea, the battery number changed), and replaced it myself. My car is from a time before they need to update the battery in the computer. I can just change it and go on with my life. The quoted price from VW was 225 plus core charge, but when I went online and asked the price at their location, it was $151 for the same battery plus core charge if you don't bring a dead one to them. I ordered it online from them and picked it up....

Why do you know about such small batteries? I mean I know you can get 12 fit the vehicle with a higher cold cranky name. I have an 5 empower. I have a 1200 amp gold cranking. Amp battery it left the flash one lasted me 10 years. Never had a problem. It just started cranking slowly. And I knew it was time for a new battery because it had enough extra amperage to start the car when it was in it full capacity. Kind of common in my area and about the biggest battery you can make fit in the vehicle.
