BlackStar--thanks for this video. I can't tell you how many times people have said that VF is hard, and I tell them that it's not! I play Soul Calibur, and over the years, I've tried to get so many people from the community to play VF. And they always say the same thing to me: You've been playing since the first game came out in the arcade; you play Ivy, so you're used to technical characters and complicated inputs. Please--please--keep up the yeomen work you do with this game because this is a great chance for the game to grow! I haven't played in years, but I hope to warm it up on release day and take my beatdowns like a man--until I get myself right. ;-). Just to make it clear, the characters are NOT actually carbon copies of each other. All the characters are unique and have their own movesets etc. But the system is the same for everyone. When you know how to play one character, it's pretty easy to pick up another character. All the characters have their own versions of the basic moves, but then they have their own unique moves also. But learning the basic moves is the most important thing. Of course some characters are much faster than others etc. So the characters are unique, but the fundamental rules of how the characters work, are the same for everyone.
@gido04713 жыл бұрын
yea it was a bit weird when he said that the top moves are the same for all characters...they all have unique playstyles just that the basic moves are fundamentally better..which kinda sucks cuz the high level play won't always showcase the uniqueness of their playstyle
@matthewtaylor58783 жыл бұрын
As far as not learning all of your characters moves I can understand not memorizing them all but you can definitely practice every single one of them cuz command training is on disc and if you're a beginner you should do it everyday

I would say that the neutral is a huge part of this game, so that is the one issue I have with this video, aside from that great tips. The problem with your initial comment is that makes it seem as if VF is a mashers game, when it is far from that. It's the least mash friendly 3d fighter. Also, it's the game with the least amount of frustrating 50/50 scenarios that lead to insane damage. Watch any VF high level set. Sure, you can rush your opponent down, but they have at least 4 to 5 chances to avoid getting mixed up. In most other modern fighting games, you make 2 wrong guesses and you are dead. If anything VF is the best game ever made because it has beautiful neutral with no ridiculous moves that ruin the footsie game. You are also saying that this game is not about the neutral and it is about forcing people to guess. SFV is 100% about that, and it has the crappiest neutral ever in a SF game. It's all about fishing that crush counter to start the 50/50' blender, get a dizzy and get the win, also super frame trap heavy with 2 wrong guesses and you are out. That is not how VF plays out in most matches. Same goes for tekken 7. A character like akuma only needs you to guess wrong once for as much as 80% damage and more. The neutral is a joke in those two games. it's just an initial dance to start an endless loop. In VF, there are more changes to reset the neutral than in those games due to the short lenght of the combos when you are not against a wall. You are also able to weather the pressure storm much more efficiently in VF than in SFV or Tekken 7. Like I said, your content is great, but that particular aspect of this video seems very confusing to me.
@TheBLACKSTARmovement3 жыл бұрын
I'll just say that I disagree with alot (ALOT) of things within your statement, though I do appreciate the comment and critique. I'll be sure to make more clear statements in my future videos to prevent confusion.

@@TheBLACKSTARmovement It's all good. We areall happy the game is back. Fortunately it is not all rushdown and guessing.

@@Fighter101network If people out there are turned off by VF being a series focused on rushdown and mixups, then those people are the exact ones that need to check out Tip# 4 on my video. @Fighter101network3 жыл бұрын
@@TheBLACKSTARmovement See, when you say that the focus of Tekken is in the neutral, I just don't know what to think of that comment. Tekken is not neutral heavy. They do a little preliminary dash dance and then its endless juggle city. I also never said VF is all neutral, but the neutral is as present as the rushdown. If you are talking about SF2, or SFA3, then yes, there is neutral, but SFV is not a neutral heavy game either.

@theBLACKSTARmovement thanks for the advice man, I plan on playing Vanessa because one she’s an extremely beautiful fighter babe in the game and second I like her Vale Tudo fighting style best out of all the characters I’ve tried in VF5: Final Showdown through PS Now and I’ll be grabbing Ultimate Showdown to get good with her while it’s free on PS Plus for the first few months so, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to hit up the training mode on final showdown to get a head start on learning at least the VF Triangle which is one of the most important VF fundamentals to master first based on what you’ve said

Well, at least for today since ultimate showdown releases tomorrow which is pure insanity but, hey better late than never since I got a free trial of PS Now to find a main character which is Vanessa so, why not try to at least start cementing the basics of the VF triangle before tomorrow right?

@theBLACKSTARmovement I thought I wanted to play Vanessa but now I’m not sure because I looked into a few other characters with like combo videos and arcade mode gameplay such as Goh and Jean and Taka Arashi and even Bryan to an extent and I’m not really sure who I want to play but, I think what I will do is go through the tutorial mode just to get a general grasp on the mechanics and then I will do every characters command training and see who looks coolest to me which is pretty much what I do when I pick up any 3D fighter that has these options available to me. I don’t like to count out any character on the roster just because the character model doesn’t look interesting to me because, my philosophy is “I don’t really know what character will click with me until I try them out so I?” Meaning the character could have the ugliest character model to me but the most fun gameplay in the entire roster.

@theBLACKSTARmovement also what’s your PSN brother I’d love to get some games in with you to improve and solidify my fundamentals in VF since you said learning the VF fundamentals is most important first and then the Vanessa specific tech/strategies come in second which, is a good mindset to master so, when I pick up other franchises I love such as Mortal Kombat I’m not learning character specific tech first because, I think that’s what’s really screwing me over in the long run is I try to pick up a character and learn all their specific tech/combos etc and then I go online and get my teeth kicked in by players who are solid in their fundamental gameplay.

I think you can run through tutorial and maybe 8 to 10 minutes. So I'm sure learning the characters and matchups are probably more important than the system. Talkin about a triangle system and that is the same triangle system from Dead or Alive. Sure there are some beginner characters but if you just go in Shun Vanessa or Akira you're going to have a bad time and even beginners playing Pai who can't do much more then PPPK or PPPDownK they're barely able to put up any fight. Beginner players might beat other beginner players by but mashing but it won't get you too far. Yeah but this is an extremely hard game more so then Tekken and it doesn't help that there is no manual blocking you have to hold a button to block that is a bad habit for any other game but that is how you block in Virtua Fighter.
@gg.no.re.3 жыл бұрын
How is Tekken a matchup-heavy game? Tekken is probably the most homogenized game in existence lol. If any game is based around system mechanics, it's Tekken. VF is similar in that regard but Tekken is no way like SF

The basic tools are the *foundation* of the characters, as players reach higher levels of play, the more character-specific tools become much more important and play more into focus.
