in all seriousness I had no idea the period and coma keys on the keyboard can scroll through your frames in animation I literally found out last week when doing the walk cycle. I wish someone told me about that sooner here I am thinking that scrolling animations is impossible lol XD

Something that a lot of people don't know how to use but is very useful: You can easily filter by name by typing "*" to say "whatever" and "?" to do it for one character. For instance: I have a scene with R_arm_ctrl L_arm_ctrl M_head_ctrl If I type "*_ctrl" it will select the three of them. If I type "?_arm_ctrl" It will select the two arm controls If I type "?_???_ctrl It will only select the two arm controls since "head" is 4 characters long and there are only 3 "?" I hope it makes sense. Also if you have a namespace, you need to insert it at the beginning as such: "myNamespace:*_ctrl"

Nice tips....just one thing, Maya default is 50 because high numbers of undo means more memory will be used. So for those who have low memory on the PC is not recommend to set Infinite Undo. You may run out of memory and Maya crashes because of it.
@Scorpionwacom5 жыл бұрын
Не то слово! Moreover, if one needs MORE THAN 50 undos, that means that’s something wrong with the animator. Rather make enough copies of your files. Save more, undo less.
@frumpeting4 жыл бұрын
Agreed, more mem used during simulation/FX work as well can quickly eat up resources. I tell Maya users that if they need more than 50, they probably aren't saving often enough. If you do want to go infinite and are bogging down, simply flush your undo memory queue with mel command flushUndo;
@eggyrepublic4 жыл бұрын
sometimes I have thousands of versions just for a single character. I practically never control save, it's always save as.
@DavidVrooman5 жыл бұрын
My favorite “manipulate a controller” tip is the middle mouse button drag. With the cursor in any viewport, if you hold down the middle mouse button and drag, you will adjust whatever control is selected on the last axis used. So, if you have the CoG selected and you had adjusted it on tY using the green arrow of the move manipulator, now MMB dragging anywhere in the viewport will continue to adjust tY. This is especially useful for things like fingers. If your main rotation on the joints is rZ, adjust one control using the blue line on the rotation manipulator. Now click on the next controller and MMB drag to also adjust it on rZ. Continue until happy. I like the MMB drag because it keeps the cursor out of the way of my character AND cuts down on the number of times I miss clicking on the thin manipulator. Bonus tip, if you click the name of any channel or attribute in the channel box, you can adjust them with a MMB drag in the viewport.
@markfernandez54746 жыл бұрын
I dont know if any of the comments told you this with regards to the camera angles... you could also press the "[" and "]" buttons in your keyboard to go to undo your camera angle to the last camera angle you had or "]" for the redo of the camera you change into. Hope this is helpful...
@JamesGorman6 жыл бұрын
Great video, some very helpful tips in this video! Just a note is that the reason that the undo defaults to finite instead of infinite is simply due to RAM limitations, making sure you don't use up all your RAM with just undos, though this shouldn't be an issue for mondern computers. I think its a good idea to set this setting up to match your machines configuation to either infinite (If you have a lot of RAM) or raising that undo finite to a much higher number though for that extra bit of security.

when you have an infinite amount of undos selected maya has to remember ALL your moves since you opened maya. if let's say you work for 6-7 hours it's creating a big amount of information that is stored in your ram (i think). If you set it to around 200-300 is better I believe depending, on your computer.

I have to ask, as a NEW 3D animator I am having a heck of a time making slow mo-ish Action Pose frames for a MK inspired fight sequence I am animating. Is that a trick done inside the graph editor? Like keying on 2s? Maybe a copy paste of last pose with minor adjusrtments between? Or a time remap render, blended inside compositing post edit software like AE or Nuke?

Problem with autokey is it doesn't set a key if nothing changes. Why is that a problem? Let's say we key everything at frame 1. At frame 10 we adjust a controller's X rot. At frame 20 we adjust X rot and Z rot. Now scrubbing back to frame 10, the controller's Z rot is different because it's interpolating between frames 1 and 20. So the pose you liked at frame 10 has now changed. Using your example of animating for a few minutes and then scrubbing back to see you have nothing without autokey, if you did the same with autokey you'll have an animation but most if not all those poses will not be what you remember them as. The only solve then is to consciously key everything on your pose frames, but then what's the point of autokey?
