@@MitchellTheMitch Why not just get a single 32GB RAM stick that's DDR5-6000 (overclockable to 6400MHz later on), and then get an identical 32GB stick after you recoup the losses in a month or two? That should help you have a PC that's capable of running everything (including those AI things that Microsoft is going to roll out on APUs with NPUs, which the 8600G also has, and is going to be basically the cheapest processor with an NPU) for as little money as possible to get a minimally working system. You're going to stay on AM5 for a while - they will probably release Zen 6 APUs for the socket, which you would be able to buy at a discount in 5 years' time, and get major boost in performance across the board. A cheap B650M mobo like Gigabyte Gaming with a Ryzen 5 8600G would be fine to get by for a few months, and you can later buy another stick of RAM to improve performance in games, then a better and faster SSD like the WD SN580 (so as to go from 256GB to 2TB storage), a much better CPU cooler (instead of the included Wraith Spire) after that, and finally some better case fans, at least 2 of them. This, and the enabled PBO + Curve Optimizer would let you run the fans at minimum speeds and you'll get a practically silent PC, provided that the PSU fan is also silent (or you just swap it with a static pressure optimized Noctua fan later on). Just don't ruin it by using a loud mechanical keyboard, let alone one with blue clicky switches. By the way, latency isn't important for gaming (provided that you're going to be gaming on the 8600G in the first place, because almost all games are terrible nowadays and all of them are a giant waste of time), as GPUs have VRAM with terrible latency but huge data throughput. Decreasing the latency with an overclock at a given MHz range (so as to keep Infinity Fabric running at 1:1 ratio) simply lets you push out a little more raw throughput for the iGPU. It doesn't mean that latency's the name of the game, you still shouldn't overspend on RAM by getting 6400MHz or 7200MHz sticks if they're going to be more expensive. Even 5600MHz would be well for you.

1:16 um... I don't know if you noticed but. up to the AM4 platform every APU limited the 16x PCIe slot to 8x mode. Both my AM4 motherboards do it. Unless you got an ATX instead or something smaller, you're gonna have to expect streamlined rules when it comes to motherboard functionality. Something I like to practice is-RTFM! I'm actually impressed that they're experimenting with opening up more lanes for the 16x slot when an APU is in use over a CPU.

EXCELLENT REVIEW!!! I LOVE that you gave those 5 ways to increase performance!!! I think people that would go for this chip and THEN get a dGPU will NEED to know these things.. And it's AWESOME that AMD gave you guidelines as to how to hit the best settings for YOUR setup.... And the fact that you relayed that to the users is just brilliant! I'm willing to bet that if I go watch a couple other reviews on the 8000 APU (which I for sure will) NONE OF THEM will talk about the best settings and why they are the best AND what AMD thinks is the best. You really nailed it bro! And its this above and beyond approach that I love about your videos. You talk about what REAL USERS are going to want to know and even if it's a knock on AMD (like if their settings don't work or something) you WILL talk about it AND how it affected you and how to work around it :) GREAT JOB!!! :) THANK YOU :) - PS... I'm still on AM4 and have been think about how to upgrade to AM5 and the ONLY way I'll be able to do it is to sell my GPU.... and my backup GPU is an RX 580, which is just poo-poo for my games... So I have been looking into the 8000G series as a temp fix until I can save my pennies for a new dGPU... and I think you just sold me on it :D Thanks Again

This would not be great for a dGPU pairing because 8700g and 8600g only support 8 pcie gen 4 lanes for GPUs, while a lot of great GPUs like 4070 or 7800 xt have 16 pcie gen 4 lanes. It wouldn't be a problem for GPUs that only have 8 pcie lanes, so that's what you must have in mind for 8700g and 8600g. 8500g and 8300g are even worse - only 4 pcie gen 4 lanes for GPUs

I really don't like the way Gamer Meld presents his benchmarks. The combination of 1) the way he flashed the charts on the screen for only 1 second apiece and 2) the fact that he ridiculously includes the MAXIMUM frame rate in the benchmarks, leading the people watching the video to believe that the maximum is actually the average, since that what the highest number is in every other channel's benchmarks. He seriously needs to drop the Maximum FPS number and include only the Average FPS and 1% Low FPS numbers for each game.
@Bastelopa_wie_mein_Channelname10 ай бұрын
For the benchmarks, I directly looked at the color scheme below for min, average and max and had no problems. Otherwise different colors wouldn't make sense. Thanks for your reviews! Do you know how much memory one can dedicate to the onboard GPU on the 8700G in the BIOS? I was hoping to use the 8700G with two 48 GB DIMM's (since having 4 would slow down the memory overall) and have 64 GB dedicated to the GPU so I can use it for running a Large Language Model AI setup. In the past the max with the motherboard BIOS and other AMD APU's was 16 GB.
@one_step_sideways10 ай бұрын
You can only dedicate up to half of the VRAM for the iGPU, usually. I don't know how to dedicate this much VRAM, but I don't know if you're really going to be able to run such an LLM even with 48GB dedicated to it, since the NPU of the Phoenix APUs is only capable of 10 TOPS, which is weak. Try using 96GB in dual-channel, and if it's not possible - you could try going with 192GB RAM. Phoenix supports 256GB, by the way.

That is going to be true but APU if you want lower powered gaming there isn't a dGPU that could compete with APU that packs both CPU and iGPU. I been using my 5700g without my GTX 1080 ti because the electric is pretty high here. If added that GTX 1080 ti its around 300 watts gaming load. With 5700g by itself its around 120 watts but with TDP limiting I could it to 90 watts on average
@vensroofcat641510 ай бұрын
@@vanguard812-vf7hr True. That's also how you know APUs can't compete with dGPUs. 120W CPU + 220W dGPU can't be done with a 65W APU. Basic physics, Conservation of energy. There is no free energy nor free work done in this universe. To do something (pixel calculation) you have to spend something. There is just no way around it. Every W spent is work done. Plus a little bit goes straight to heat without doing anything useful. And that's it. Imagine 350W APU? Not yet, right. Also the problem with APUs not having short distance GDDR6+, just the regular slower system memory a bit further.

Man that echo whenever you do a review is just too prominent.... I think it has to do with you standing up..... maybe you could just test out some efforts to remove it (not in your videos, just making some test recordings) just by doing things like putting some soft, sound absorbent things (cloth is a REALLY EASY first try, like a blanket or pillow or even towel) in places the camera wouldn't see like on the floor, or even a table cloth would make a huge difference.... you have two huge flat hard surfaces right in view of the camera so that's gonna be the hardest thing without a bit of re-decoration... Even if you were to get one 'square' of some foam 'eggcrate' or something similar and just put it up behind your head and put the table cloth down (or even a big mouse pad... or those big 'mouse pads' that Gamers Nexus sells that go all the way across the desk (and I think they are ALL the same price no matter the size) These two things would make a HUGE difference!!! I don't want you to think I'm insulting you or your setup (as a matter of fact I LOVE your setup!!! The simple wood planks just stained and the two indirect light strips are the perfect minimal design without spending a lot.. I would do something simple like that... I'm not a fan of people spending a crap ton on their background - I'm watching for the info and the host... NOT what's on your wall lol - THIS AIN'T HOLLYWOOD BUB!!! ) lol sry - I just want you to know it's pretty noticeable... I can tell you bought a good microphone, but it's picks the echo like your in a phone booth.... But I don't hear it on your talking head videos (when you're sitting down) or the voiceover vids.... at least I don't think it's in the talking head vids.... I noticed it's back when the last round of GPUs came out, bit didn't mention it, but with the 7600XT it was very noticeable... but I didn't bring it up... but now I figured I would just so you know.... it doesn't matter to me, I'll be watching your vids no matter what.. even if you were in a scuba suit lol ....
