5 Underrated Spells for the Eldritch Knight in D&D 5e

Hey man, thanks. I'm trying an EK in the new 5.5e and was pretty overwhelmed with spell choice, this helps a lot -- even though the spell school limitation is lifted now, it gives me some great starting-point ideas.

Great video! It’s rare something makes me think about playing an Eldritch Knight, but you’ve really highlighted the utility you can get with the subclass, despite its limitations!

Grabbing the warcaster feat is good for an EK because of the opportunity attack spell part. Use booming blade to deal additional damage when they leave OR bring them back to melee with Lightning Lure. Your choice.

Imagine if the DM allows the audible alarm to be whatever sounds. I would not stop myself from making the sound a bass-boosted song. I won't do it from the get go, but randomly once. The group gets used to the sound of my alarm being wind chimes, so when they go to sleep they think nothing is amiss. But as the enemy - intent on making use of a sneak attack - triggers the spell, there'll be only one thing heard blasting loudly.. *SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME*

Gaseous form has a fabulous range of applications and any player who uses it without fart references deserves DM-inspiration die.

I've always liked the Eldritch Knight, but if the updates to it from the UA7 playtest matrerial make it to the 2024 PHB, it will be my go to gish subclass going forward because, for one thing, the limit on using primarily evocation and abjuration magic may be removed.

Before the fiend folio elves and half elves could multiclass as fighter and magicusers. Elves are the original gish

... Wow. "Extra attack plus spells". I don't think you could have made a definition better suited for causing arguments among older players. :D

I think Gish builds are cool, but the Eldritch Knight might not be the best at it, but they're ok. I think the Arcane Trickster is a better representative of what the Githyanki Gish was intended to be but that certain isn't the case anymore. Now it's all swords and sorcery.
