my favorite is the balisong trench knife, though I can't legally own or carry it here in Germany. Very cool is the splitted knuckle duster to fit around the folding blade - packs really compact. Oiling the steel nun-chaku is not the best way if you want to use it. Instead put 3-6 layers of cellulose varnish on them to keep it from rusting and still get a good grip. Will get damaged when smashing things, but ideal for 'dry' exercises. Another way would be to put on a nice patina with vinegar or mustard.
@Karatemart2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Manni! I really like the trench knife too. Kombativ manufactures a stainless steel version as well that doesn’t require maintenance, but the carbon steel version is way more popular. They use a corrosion prevention on it when it is sold, but it is a good idea to oil it before storage and then do a quick alcohol wipe before use so that it isn’t slippery. I’ll have to look into that cellulose varnish. Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it!

I'm wondering if that Pudao would serve as a brush knife, it seems ideal!
@Karatemart2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question, Geno! I could definitely see it being used for that, but I’m not sure the angle of the grind on the blade is ideal for that kind of usage. You could probably sharpen it a little differently though.
@MagusHabilus2 жыл бұрын
Do a "forged in fire" and give it a sugar cane test. Back when I made knives, I'd test the steel by hammering them into green oak. if they survived, they got polished and sold.

Great start to my 34th birthday especially with that last weapon. Two questions. 1. What blade sharpener on your website would be good for a ninja sword? 2. If the sword comes sharp and you never use it on a target do you still need to sharpen it at some point in time?
@Karatemart2 жыл бұрын
Happy Birthday, Brother! It must be nice to be 34! Great questions! Yeah, the blade sharpener would work on that sword, but if you aren’t striking anything with the blade, it’ll stay nice and sharp for you. Have a wonderful day, my friend!

Is the pudao heat treated?
@Karatemart Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! The manufacturer mentioned it was heat treated, but you have to take that statement with a grain of salt for every weapon, because you never know the length of time or the process they used to heat treat a weapon. Thanks so much for watching!
@algomez8563 Жыл бұрын
@@Karatemart There is only one way to know. Putting it under a flexibility test. I would buy a couple since it is low cost but I will hold until a review comes out.
@Karatemart Жыл бұрын
@@algomez8563 That kind of depends, because they can heat treat it to be more flexible or more rigid and strong. We see a lot of carbon steels that are heat treated to react like spring steel nowadays, while others are heat treated specifically to be more rigid. You are correct though...for an inexpensive blade, I'm sure it's great, but the less expensive it is, the less time they probably spent in the heat treating process.
@algomez8563 Жыл бұрын
@@Karatemart I agree but all heat treated blades have a degree of elasticity it is a property of tempered steel. An adecuate test would be a 5 to 10 degree, flexing and expect it to return to true. That reasonable to any sword that uses recycled spring steel as material.

Theres a few versions explaining what a Pudao is. One of the more accurate version is that, it comes in 2 parts, to bypass Imperial law on the ban of long weapons. So, ppl will carry a Dao on the waist and a "walking stick" on the other. Moving around cities and towns like that. But once out of those places, they will piece them toegther to form a makeshift long arm.

Does the pudao have a full tang? One of the other commenters said that they traditionally were a dao with a walking stick attached. If that's true, then I guess they wouldn't have a full tang in real life. From my point of view, I'd want a full tang on anything that I was going to use for a heavy-duty task like chopping a horse's leg. While I hate the thought of doing that to a horse, I would want the strength of a full tang if I had to do it. In a reproduction, I can also see making the sword as a full tang sword for additional strength. I don't know whether I'll be able to find the poll, but that would be my favorite, particularly if it were full tang. I can't see myself ever having the skill to train with nunchucks. If I could, I can see the value of training with a heavier pair just to get more muscle work. I would also want that power if I had to defend myself.
@Karatemart2 жыл бұрын
I hope you are having an excellent weekend! I’m guessing the Pudao is full tang based on the pommel, but I can’t verify that without taking it apart. And unfortunately with how it is designed, taking it apart would destroy the sword. The manufacturer who makes those for us is very concerned about making battle ready swords, so I don’t imagine they would make it with a partial tang. I hope you are having an excellent weekend, my friend!
@VTPSTTU2 жыл бұрын
