I mean they were Malaysian trumpet snails... In a healthy tank, they should live in the substrate and only come out at night. The fact there were so many means that there was a bunch of decaying matter in the tank or like you had earlier algae. You can get decaying matter when shrimp molt, plants die off, tank mates die or overfeeding. Basically, any tank that has live plants (unless the plants were kept in a sterile environment) will have them.

For those of you wondering what the sounds coming from the loaches was about, they're "clicking their teeth". They do this for a number of reasons, excitement, territorial disputes, when they've found food. I have some gold zebra loaches and they do this from time to time once the lights are out and food is in the tank. When I first got them to clear out some bladder snails in a 10g, they did it regularly, as they were gorging themselves on snails till their bellies bulged. They're such fun little gluttons, the only downside is when they loudly dig around in the substrate when you're trying to sleep, haha.

You need to kill off those round snails IMMEDIATELY! They are even worse than the spiral ones! I’ve had them in my tanks before and they eat everything and reproduce asexually. I started with two hitchhiking into my tank on plants, thought they were cute, kept one and gave the other to my friend. Within a couple weeks she had an infestation that escaped her tank and was all over her room, I started trying to kill the ones in my tank but they are impossible to control, even with fish that enjoy eating them.

best way to control is to minimize overfeeding. They only reproduce if there's an abundance of food. I also usually add a loach/bottomfeeder pellet and wait for them to all bunch up on it and then I just scoop them out with a net. I'll do that for a few days and then once I've removed most, then I proceed by feeding less, only every 2nd day. And then most of the snails I guess grow weaker or something and then my kuhli loaches have a bit of a feast. So yeah, then I have maybe like 20 or less in my tank, and it stays like that until I overfeed or add things like alder leaves or IAL or cholla fingers, etc. Then they go nuts again.
@SeraliaAerials4 жыл бұрын
Mia I’m not talking about control and if you have plants in your tank, they absolutely will munch on them til they are gone. Population control is just not enough in a planted tank when it comes to these little shits. To protect your plants from these things, genocide is the only option.

for future references you can freeze snail eggs overnight, and then crush them. it doesn't hurt them and it's what snail owners usually do
@kanooclips50004 жыл бұрын
I have a stupid question, will they die?or something else?
@xxcrimebruleexx4 жыл бұрын
@@kanooclips5000 no stupid questions!! yes, they will die. depending on the species a single snail can lay up to 430 eggs a year, realistically it's not easy to maintain having that many snails, so freezing them is the most humane way to kill them
@jiggermansan74744 жыл бұрын
instead freezing them its more human to just crush them....than killing them slowly and crush them after this nonsense procedure, crushing them anyway.
@JohnJonesBilly4 жыл бұрын
@@jiggermansan7474 what i like to do is heat up the water till its slightly uncomfortable for 10 days and then flash freeze them in 20 minutes. If they survive that i take a shit in the tank and tell them to eat it.

I always come back to your video when i want to see how much care you put into them. Don't ever stop doing these videos. I plan on one day getting myself a Bearded Dragon and plan on learning how to take care of one. It's really motivating when i see the amounts of effort you put into your aquariums and the life within them.

Please do your research and don’t take all of foo’s advice when you do! Aquarium keeping is a great hobby, but there’s a lot of misinformation going around. Such as never purchasing fish or animals just to solve a problem. Yoyo loaches need tanks of 40 gallons. Snail overpopulation is usually due to overfeeding or an overabundance of food.

Hi there, just want to let you know that I appreciate your videos, as a nano tank enthusiast and as a person who lives with anxiety. Your documentation of your experience with the tanks is attentive and sentitive- I couldn't ask for a more enjoyable way to relate to your experience. Thanks.

I was thinking that too, but assassin snails can be picky about the types of snails they eat. I think the snail he had the problem with was a type of Malaysian trumpet snail? In my experience the assassin snails don't like eating them!

Yeah this is the kind of problems that you get when having this type of aquarium environment, keeping the populations in check. It's so hard to keep everything in balance. It's very beautiful and soothing, but it's kinda easy for one population to grow out of control lol. 3:42 Beautiful cat btw :)
