Before you start arranging, take a look at the hacks that can make your track hook your listeners, here I have a KZbin video for that kzbin.info/www/bejne/m36qg4Wfm8mCopI

Killer shortcut for session view is cmd+shift+i Play whatever clips you want to get a feeling, then hit that shortcut. It'll create a new 'scene' using only the clips that are playing. Takes away the need for draging clips around. And lets you build up scenes more organically
@JJ1NE Жыл бұрын
if only there was a shortcut to do just that but put all the playing clips in the arrangement view.

If you like to play live in the session view, I find it easier to set the global quantize to 4 bar, than you have enough time to change the sound and the changes happens to the wright time. All changes happens on 1, 5, 9, 13 and so on. So you can click on a clip on 6 or 7 and it begins to play at 9. You want to stop a runnig clip on 9, than click on an empty field at 6, 7 or 8. That makes it easier for changes. If you need some clips starting promptly you can change the quantization in the clip Editor on the tab where the follow action is with the value you need. The disadvantage is that you can't stop it immediatly but you can use the 8th clip row for empty clips and set the quantization to 1/4 and than it is like a stop because the midi clip is empty. You can also easy delete this part in the arrangement after you finished recording.

I get so lost in my projects so quickly and so I'm much more vulnerable to losing production speed and generally just having fun. These steps really help me gain more control over my productions. Thank you so much!

Try to label everything as much as possible, use markers in arrangement view to name song sections. Try to settle on a colour scheme for clips that works for you.

Frankly, most Ableton videos are mired in 2013 - not that there's anything wrong with 2013, LOL. Some of the tips here are new to me (and I know Live) and very useful. Thanks for it.

all super helpful tips! thank you Alice. I want to make a point, though I'm not sure I have it perfectly articulated. I'll try anyway. it's important to also remember that your *song* does not = the way your song *looks* in ableton/Logic/FL studio, etc. a lot of us, and especially beginners get caught up in the interfaces of our tools, when you could benefit from closing your eyes and feeling where things are meant to go. even singing the whole song out loud to yourself and record that as a voice note can help. otherwise you might fall into into this trap where you almost think "my song isn't finished because I haven't arranged it *in Ableton*." Well, do you even know how your song is supposed to sound from start to finish in your own head? You don't need to move around colored blocks on a screen to figure that out, and often you'll arrive at better results if you try to rely on your brain more and less on the tools. None of what I'm saying discounts the usefulness of what's shown in this video. But I hope what i'm saying maybe reaches someone who might be held back by their own perceived mastery of their tools. It's your brain that makes music, before your hands eyes or even ears get involved.

The arrangement view SUPER frustrating, to many distractinons , the grid , the markers , the lines, zooming, finding your way through the arrangement and using the mouse to navigate through it all.

Getting lost in a project is part of the game. How can we learn anything if ai will do the hard things for us? Literally, original ideas come from finding a way out of the maze.
