Here's another way to look at it; If you ask someone out, you have a 50% chance of success. If you don't, your odds drop to 0%.
@jonathancangelosi24396 жыл бұрын
You’re conflating possibilities with probabilities. If I look under my pillow, either there is a million dollars underneath it or there isn’t. Doesn’t mean there’s a 50% chance there’s a million dollars under my pillow. Otherwise, I’d buy pillows like mad. Still, the basic idea that you’re conveying here is a good way to think about it. I wish I had a 50% chance of success. It’s more like 1%. Lol
@AnimeWolf51936 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Cangelosi If you ask someone out, one of two possibilities will happen; they will either say yes or no. 50/50.
@jonathancangelosi24396 жыл бұрын
Just because there are two possibilities doesn’t mean they’re equally likely. Let’s apply your logic to the lottery. Either I win the lottery or I don’t. 50/50 chance, right? No, because the chance of winning the lottery is generally around one in 300 million. Many people enter the lottery, and only one can win. If everyone had a 50% chance, the lottery would go bankrupt, since about 150 million people would win. My point is, asking someone out isn’t as simple as a coin flip. It’s not random. It’s more like a lottery. Several guys may ask a girl out, but she can only date one of them at a time (assuming she is monogamous). If you had a 50% success rate, that means if you ask out 100 girls, you should expect about 50 of them to say yes. I have had nowhere close to that level of success.
@QuartzIsAnOxide6 жыл бұрын
It's just as Jonathan said. Asking someone out is like lottery, especially if they're a woman and get asked out a lot. If they get 100 requests a day, then from THEIR perspective each guy only has a 1/100th chance of being selected, then your actual probability of being the chosen one drops much lower. A better way to calculate whether a girl will reject you or not would be through Drake's equation. There's more complicated ways to do it, but since all rely on subjective meassures of happiness and attractiveness, I don't see the use in trying one over the other.

Rejection is better than never asking them out and later have regrets to be honest but maybe it's just me. I have dealt with this in the past that I NEVER told someone whom I had a mad crush on only indirectly had I done it and made so much mistakes that my best friend, yes she's my best friend ended up having a lot of "fights" and arguments to the point where I told myself that we were better off being friends and I regretted it. Be Yourself is overused, I think more importantly is misinterpreted. I see it as Be Yourself when you're at your most comfortable and best self. A way to help is to imagine everywhere you go is your own bedroom. In your bedroom you're usually open, "confident", relaxed and at ease. Breath through your nose slowly for 5 seconds then breath out through your nose for 5 seconds repeat this if you're feeling nervous. The thing with feel "nervous" is that's all dependant on how you see it. Because nervousness and excitement have similar feelings so try switching how you view what you're feeling. Be safe and stay blessed

A small tip for people feeling nervous about rejection. I never knew why, but I was quite popular with the guys in middle school. Unfortunately, many of these were my friends. Rejecting someone feels terrible, especially if they’re a great friend. The rejection is how you take it. If they reject you, it often doesn’t mean they don’t like you. Sometimes, they don’t realise they like you, or are to shy to admit they like you. Either that, or they only see you as a friends. Friendzoning someone gives you extreme guilt. So, try to be happy, and show the person who rejected you so. Keep being a great friend. A guy who had a huge crush on me is still a great friend of mine to this day. Other than the fact that rejection is only as scary as you make it, there is still the chance you won’t be rejected. There’s a reason you like them. There are so many psychological reasons that you like them and they may like you back. One of them is that people tend to find others that look like them more attractive. If you like their personality, your personalities probably go well together. Don’t be afraid, go for it!

Invite them over to play games with you? If they can't handle the fact that you play games often, then that's a warning sign that may end up affecting a relationship, possibly even after marriage too. If they say yes but don't know how to play, teach them. It'll be a good bonding experience… I hope.

As an introvert and misanthrope; asking people out and communicating is difficult. Some days I really don't want to be around people. And; to be honest, I feel out of touch with a lot of people. When someone does take my interest approaching them is hard because while I try to understand and take an interest in their interests; mine are complex to explain. And I sometimes come off as intimidating.
@toxicmale22646 жыл бұрын
Ask them out to dinner to get to know them. You don't figure them out right away. Well... you have to have some easier interests to explain. If you can hear what the person likes the maybe you can share the same interests? Much easier than explaining to them your severed head collection.

Here's a better way of wording it. Be the BEST version of yourself for the current situation. Like, if you wanna charm someone you don't want to act the way you do when you're about to chow down on a sloppy joe right? Behave the way you believe will work best, and don't act entitled for that person. If they don't like you back, trust me it's better to just move on.

My first "confession": The other day I wanted to buy a book. Due to the current "circumstances", I can't just waltz into a bookstore, so I thought I'd buy online. Someone was selling a used copy of the book for a really cheap price, and all I had to do was go pick it up. We met for the exchange, and I kind of fell for him right then and there. The exchange was very brief, no small talk at all, but I wish I had said more to him. Since I had a way to contact him from the book purchase, just this afternoon I contacted him again telling him I wish we'd talked more. So far no response, and I may never get one at all, but this is the first time I've ever done anything like this, and I feel really accomplished and powerful now! Props to my bestie for being with me and encouraging me when I pressed send

My experience with relationship hasn't been very typical of dating and asking someone out. I've had a few crushes, as everyone does, but being shy and doubtful and a reserved person, I kept things to myself. In my opinion this was good that I didn't act on those ones because they weren't built on anything. I often didn't have a proper connection to the person or even really speak to them, I just had a random child/teen crush. I feel like if I had acted on those crushes, for me they wouldn't have lasted. Through out my years of highschool I had a lot of pretty bad stuff that I had to manage going on with my friends that the idea of having a boyfriend or girlfriend rarely came to my mind. In fact, I was in a very bad place myself, but have gotten a lot better since. I've only been in one romantic relationship, and still am. My current, and first, boyfriend had been one of my friends for a few years, and closer best friend for about a year or so before we got together. We have similar interests and personalities, and can understand and respect each other well. I had for some reason always noticed him, before we became friends, so I ignored it as another silly teenage crush. He just seemed different. Eventually as we were growing closer as friends I knew it was a crush. But he had a girlfriend and so I ignored those feelings and pushed them away. So how did we get together? His girlfriend broke up with him, leaving him devastated and wrecked. Honestly I had no business in this much at all. Whilst we were friends, we were not that close at this time for him to share something personal, and he had other friends help him through. It was the end of that year that we started getting closer and on one particularly good day he messaged me that night. He told me that he has something to tell me, but quickly second guessed himself and said to not mind. When I questioned him, he told me that he had feelings for me. I told him I had been feeling similarly towards him. It was actually one of the happiest days I've ever had. We never really asked each other out, or asked to be boyfriend and girlfriend (not until months later when it was brought up in a conversation of ours), but we began our relationship just by confessing. I was also new to relationships, he is my first, and I was unsure if I was completely comfortable with the idea and ready for it. So I didn't know when to call it official or anything, and it felt a little awkward for me starting out. But yeah, we didn't do the typical dating thing. Besides we're highschoolers with no money xD What you would call our first 'date' (was kinda just a day out together rather than at one of our houses) was at 6 months into our relationship. And now we've been together nearly two years and are soon to finish high school and head on to further education together. Maybe I just got super lucky to have him. I take a lot to properly trust people and open up to them, and I've always seen him as a good person. Of course there are occasional upsets and there's a lot of difficulties in our personal lives which can affect our relationship, but I know that he is someone I want to make things work with. I don't necessarily need to have been in different relationships or gone dating, I just need to give him my all and help make us work out. And I know he feels the same. I apologize for such a long comment, I kinda rambled. I just wanted to share my experience, because I know it's not a typical teenager experience with dating.

So, there was this boy who I was in love with for 8 years without him even knowing. I haven't seen him in physical for over 2-3 years now and I don't think I will ever get over the love for him. I think next year, when I settle down with my new college, I am surely gonna ask him out. We never talked, like friends but we had like silent eye contacts all throughout those 5 years in school. I wonder why didn't we talk. We occasionally did talk though. But it was all not friendly. I just wanna marry him, lol. That's weird but true.
