As a mechanic tow half as much as stated on the turbo. If u tow the full 3000 lbs your engine will go kaput 😢 Physics says it’s still a 4 cylinder. Great get around town car or road trip car. Great overview!
@know916bound Жыл бұрын
These are just fine. Turbo vehicles can be more than capable depending on the set up. And the trans and engine combos on these are already underrated considering the non turbo versions are able to tow the same amount depending on the model. And I've seen a few cx9s with high mileage that towed and went camping.etc. no problems at all, the highest mileage one I've seen being about 300k miles still running like a clock.

Thanks for the timely review as I am shopping for a CX-5 Premium Plus and was wondering about the CX-50! I found your channel while searching for CX-5 reviews. I think I like the look of the CX-5 better. To me, the CX-50 looks too 4-Runner-ish with the squared edges. But I need to check it out in person to make sure. On a separate but similar note, how have you and your wife been enjoying the CX-5? Any words of wisdom or thoughts post-purchase, for a potential CX-5 buyer? Do you guys have a Turbo or NA model? My Mom lives in Pewaukee and I'm just over the border in IL so I can relate to your reviews! How does the CX-5 do in the Midwestern winters on the 19" Toyos? I've read those are not the greatest tires, LOL. Thanks for a great channel and keep up the awesome work.

Thanks for the love, Don - glad the video was helpful! My wife and I both have '16 AWD n/a CX5s. The only issue we've had over the last 5 years was her accessory belt gave out, but that was the original belt and it gave at about 120k miles. We love our CX5s! The CX5 is a little smaller but drives better, the CX50 is a little more practical but doesn't handle road bumps quite as well (marginal) She's got Yokohama Geolandars on and I have a cheap set of Kenda Cleavers on but honestly both sets of tires have been just fine - never had an issue in sun, rain, or snow

@@dwnshft Awesome, thanks for the reply, Matt! I'm also considering a '21 or '22 CPO CX5 to save a little cash, but I'm early in my analysis (and probably soon-to-be paralysis) stage. 🙃 Good to hear to the CX5 Twins are still clipping along w/out issue. Looks like you've got a great relationship with the Milwaukee-area dealers to review the vehicles. Get the CX5, I bought the Signature and is has been perfect. As soon as I sat in the CX50, I knew it wasn't at nice as the CX5. Plus the CX5 is made and built in Japan. The CX5 came out in 2016 and they have made improvements every year, and it's still better than it's competitors. The true CX5 replacement will be the CX70, package wise. Price will be much more.

I appreciate what they did with the front end. All of the adjustments to the height, width, etc of the features makes sense and puts it ahead of the CX-5. However, coming around to the sides and the rear, I believe the CX-5 is still the better looking car. So front = CX-50, sides and rear = CX-5.

New CX 5 owner for 2 weeks. NA engine has more than enough power, anyone saying its underpowered is crazy... I love everything about it except the ride over rough pavement, even with IRS its still jarring. CX50 quickly got the x for me: 1. the ugly plastic cladding. 2. Torsion Beam. 3. More $$$$

@buckeyefan635 Жыл бұрын
@@dwnshft The NA 2.5 in my CX-50 is great. To each is own, but the plastic cladding looks great on this vehicle. I think it looks out of place on the CX-30. The torsion beam complaint is unjustified in my opinion. It's all about suspension tuning. Does the CX-50 have stiffer suspension than a Toyota RAV4? Yes. Again, it's all preference. I think the interior design on the CX-50 is superior to the CX-5. Both are great vehicles, and ultimately I think you should just trust your gut on the decision between the two. Rugged versus city dweller design language.

11. Hood prop struts!! No downmarket prop rod so many have these days. For those that'll knee jerk the struts don't last, my older Toyotas (before they went cheap also with the rod on most models) lasted 150k+...meaning in my ownership they never did fail...and that's in the Az heat. Agree, great looking vehicle and "just right" size for many. Minor nit, but a bugaboo on many vehicles now - cheapening out with only one side seat-back pocket. Wth? I'd swap out these larger wheels for the lesser ("smaller") wheels, even if giving up a few % in on-road driving dynamics...the better for the daily realities of crappy roads as well as weekend adventuring (still soft roading). A question, for those not wanting the extra cost, weight, MPG and (perhaps) reliability penalties of the turbo: Can the NA engine model be had in the higher trim(s) with all the other goodies...or at least optioned such? If not, I'd list that as #6 on the dislikes column.

Just test drove a 2024 CX-50 Turbo with msrp of +$43k. It is 100% FWD and the rear only engages when it looses traction, I guess this is why the rear pumpkin is smaller than a 2 liter bottle. My test car could not hold a line straight, it is wanting to steer left and right and struggled to stay straight, could not hug the corner, I had zero confidence steering this SUV, i would experience excessive body roll and any sudden lane changes, my torso got thrown around. The Breaks are weak and undersized, struggled to break hard coming of an exit ramp at 70mph ,I was so disappointed because I really wanted to buy it. I have a 2014 Audi A6 with 200k miles that I plan to retire but nothing can touch an Audi AWD system, not even a Subaru. The CX-50 needs to visit Bilstein engineers because it is that bad. If I was Mazda, I would be embarrassed to sell this for $40k I have experience with lots and lots of cars, this one was Hertz Fleet quality. It is pretty to look at though. Audi Q3 probably would destroy this in ride quality and having confidence experience steering this. Zoom Zoom, not with this one!
