8 gears is great, yes Mazda has been slow to change but 6 gears is fine for everyday driving because we dont all drive like lunatics. The new cx-60 has 8 gears so we can expect 8 gears to be finally rolled out on models soon. The cx-60 has duel clutch as it's more responsive than a torque converter, so they say.

@@scott1245 Extra gears help with acceleration and fuel economy. Despite it's weight, AWD, and 6 gears; the cx-50 still manages 0-60 in 6.7 sec and 24mpg city/29mpg hwy. This is impressive and the cx-50 has potential. The cx-50 with an 8 speed can easily run high 5's 0-60 and have 35mpg on the hwy.

@@RyanS-ed1ir some slight panel rattles on the interior, sound deadening materials sticking out in some areas, nothing major or life changing, and all fixable. The 6 speed automatic is the sweet spot for reliability & function. Plus, the Mazda SkyActiv 6 speed automatic is actually a pretty refined & brilliantly simple design per The Care Care Nut Remix channel guy mechanical breakdown/review of the CX-5. Have fun with those imploding belt/chain CVTs that often fail around the time an extended warranty would expire, or the overly complicated, over-engineered, less-reliable 8/10 speed geared automatics and/or dual-clutch transmissions.

Last week I drove back to back the CX-50 Turbo and the Buick Envision Avenir. I was very surprised to see that the Buick was inferior in almost every way, even with a 9 speed and adaptive suspension. I don't think Mazda's designs is tired at all. They've been lightyears ahead of most other manufacturers in design who are looking way more long in the tooth than Mazda. In any case, I'm loving the look of this vehicle. Going to go test drive it and more than likely put an order in. Going to be one hell of an upgrade from my 2013 Toyota Corolla CE. Also, the hump on the rear is because it's higher off the ground but has a lower roof so they had to put that AWD shaft somewhere.

A lot of the complaints you mentioned are addressed in the CX-60 that they revealed months ago. That vehicle has a full digital gauge cluster, an 8-speed auto trans, plug-in hybrid and inline-6 powertrains, RWD based architecture, etc. The CX-70 that is coming to NA is basically the same, but wider. So we'll see if these features will trickle down to the CX-50 when they refresh the vehicle, or will Mazda reserve them for the more premium and expensive CX-70?

My wife just bought a CX50 Turbo Premium. We had it for a week. It is a pretty nice car, but I wish it was quieter inside while on the highway and it had more interior storage places. It has a rattling noise coming from the back. I did not expect that from a new car. My wife old car was a Honda Accord touring and it was quieter. Great things about the CX50 are the leather quality is way better than Honda and the AC is way cooler and it looks great, but the back seat of a Honda was way bigger. My wife is very happy with the CX50. She loves the wireless android auto the most and I love the ventilated seats. We are in Texas after all.

I know that it's not in the same size class, but I paid $44k for our new Tucson Limited PHEV. We're getting 145 MPG with it so far, as we plug it in when the battery gets depleted. We'll likely get over 1,500 miles per fill up with gas. The tech is fantastic, and the blend of electric power to the 1.6L turbo is amazingly smooth. Also, it qualifies for $6,587 in Federal tax credits, bringing the price way down below the CX-50. I really like Mazda, but they need to get their act together and should have offered this with a hybrid option right out of the gate.

Other than that it drives really well and I’m not shy about my driving at times. No major problems or repairs have been needed for my vehicle so far. Gas mileage is decent. I really like your vlogs..especially the way you go in detail covering the mechanical and tech stuff.. Can you please advise of mazda cx50 turbo is mechanically any different (same engine and gearbox) than mazda cx5 turbo? Does the engine and 6 speed transmission looks improved for cx50? I mean on paper it seems to have the powertrain carried over from cx5..

$43k plus some dealers are using the newness and scarcity of this vehicle to charge a $11k dealer mark-up, I was quoted $54k for one at Mesquite Mazda in Dallas. I told them where to stick their best offer and went and purchased a Hyundai Palisade SEL Premium AWD instead.

Saw this in person yesterday and it really is a handsome car inside and out. And that pano sunroof 😍. My only gripe would be that I thought it would be roomier inside. This would probably be a ding for those looking for a family driver. But if I was looking for a bigger car than my CX30 I’d consider this strongly

Why are auto journalists obsessed with hating on Mazda’s 6 speed? It’s reliable and smooth shifting, and works well with the power train. It’s not like people buying this are worried about how many gears it has anyways. It’s a family SUV, not a sports car.

And that’s why they have both the cx-5 and the cx-50 because this car won’t be for everyone. Although I know some people who have traded their cx-5 for the 50, this car is trying to bring buyers in from different brands and I think it’s been doing just that.

@@damarri8386 Yeah the wife and I actually looked at both this and the CX-5 recently and she preferred the CX-50 based on styling alone although we need a larger vehicle anyway since we've outgrown her current HR-V. This and the Buick Envision are her top choices so it will likely boil down to which one we can get for the best deal.

I like it, I'm a fan of Mazda but still not as competitive as a Kia or Hyundai 🤔. Mazda needs to find it's place, either lower the prices to compete with other manufacturers or up your game to compete, you can't be overpriced and under whelming. That's a lose/lose in my opinion.

I was impress all 4 windows are automatic and it also has rain sensing wiper at this price point. I love the more traditional interior dashboard and layout... I also love the traditional shifter... But the main problem here in America for the Mazda SUV's (and crossovers) - like the CX-5, CX-9, etc) was the lack of interior room - including lack of headroom. I was really hoping the new redesigned crossovers and SUV's would fix this major problem. So far with the redesigned CX-50 - I am disappointed. The interior still is cramped.. We would like more interior room - raising the roofline and making a taller roofline would improve so many things. It would increase all around comfort, interior room, increase headroom, increase driving enjoyment, and improve visibiility and improve safety - you see out better - means less accidents.. I know this (a higher roof) would make the vehicle slightly less fuel efficient.. But I would gladly trade bit less gas mileage for better visibility and better safety and the other benefits I mentioned earlier.. Hopefully Mazda remembers this when redesigning future SUV's/crossovers.

My current car has a very tall roof and there's tons of head room inside because of it. After stepping into a CX50 at a local dealer, I can't say I'd miss the height in my current car. I thought it was fine, and I'm 6' tall. I thought the same about interior space as well. The cargo area was much narrower than my current car though, that I could find as a small annoyance.

@@ReDiiKuLuS Thanks Andrew for your thoughts.. I not only like more headroom but I also just like to sit up higher. I like the high commanding view for good visibility. Another thing I have noticed is that they are putting like a black box at the top middle of the windshield (on the windshield side of the rear view mirror).. This further reduces visibility and with less visibility it hurts safety in my view..
