Here a couple tips! Try seating the slugs forward into the breach with your pinky finger, otherwise air will escape around the slug before it get to the barrel, also the silicone oil is your friend! Really helps with loading in the bolts and will not damage o-rings! Keep the camera rolling thanks Nate

A tip for filling is to fill it as slow as you can, even if it means leaving it with air off for a few minutes. When air moves quickly it gets dam hot, that gives you a false reading as it indicates more pressure, but then as the tube cools it shows pressure has dropped. Also go off the tanks gauge not the one one the rifle 👍🏻

Very impressive PCP air rifle. It’s similar to a .50 caliber hawken muzzleloader with a 180 grain round ball and 60 grains of 3f black powder. It’s great to see you shoot an air rifle. I bought my Hatsan 135 QE vortex .25 caliber break barrel air rifle and a couple of tins of H&N 22 grain hornet pellets from Pyramyd air in the new year and I’m very impressed with the 29 or 30 foot pounds of energy it’s putting out at the muzzle and the penetration I get from it as well as the accuracy. I posted a couple of videos on my channel of me shooting it. In one video I fired 5 shots from 20 meters distance away at a steel target and got a 2 inch center mass group using open sights. In the other video I do a penetration test shooting a hornet pellet through 4 unopened 11.15 ounce pellegrino water cans and it entered the fifth can but didn’t exit it

Love to see your enthusiasm over this airgun. You may have just introduced yourself into an incredibly fun new hobby. I've been shooting airguns for years and I'd like to give you a couple of tips, if you plan to hunt with it. That gun has an unregulated air valve and reservoir. That means that each time you fire it, the pressure and the amount of air will go down, making the next shot slower than the previous one. Because it's a big bore, it uses a lot of air with each shot. Before doing any target work or hunting, most airgunners will shoot a full reservoir of air out of their new gun and record the pressure on the gauge before the shot and the velocity that shot produced with a chronograph. You will usually find that the velocity on the first few shots will be low and then gradually rise. It will then level off for a period and then start to drop off again. You can take that velocity info and make a graph that will usually look like an arc. It's call the shot curve and by noting the pressure of each shot you can figure how high you should fill the gun (usually less than the max pressure allowed) and what's the lowest pressure you can go down to before you should refill (usually well before the yellow area on the gauge) to get the most consistent string of shot velocities. If you're plinking it doesn't matter, but to be an ethical hunter who doesn't want to make wounding shots, it becomes more important to understand that the gun's power plant weakens as more shots are taken. A good firearm cartridge shoots each bullet at the same speed and the distance to target makes the most difference to whether a shot can be made or not. If every bullet came out a little slower than the previous one, that would really complicate things. Ignore this comment if you already knew this about unregulated pre-charged airguns. Just trying to help get you off to a good start with your new toy. And you will never get a better customer experience than you will at Pyramyd Air. Have a blast.

Some of them were even loaded with reservoirs that held a large number of bullets and many of them were high caliber like .44 . They had a faster rate of fire than the traditional guns of the time and they would use them when their powder got wet or for taking game. Napoleon even banned them because he deemed they were unfair.

Big bore air is awesome! As far as that goes, midsize bore air is awesome. I don’t have a big bore but the new technology in air rifles have definitely placed them in serious hunting rifle capabilities. Ive always been partial to the simplicity of break barrel springers and even my Diana 34 Classic .177 has proven itself on small game out to 65 yards. I’ve not attempted a shot further than that on game and mostly I limit my shots to around 40 yards but I’ve taken an abundance of squirrel and rabbit in the last few years with it. And speaking of target accuracy,,, well it’s so accurate with certain pellets that it’ll make ragged hole groups all day long at 35 yards and it really don’t open up much even at 45 yards on paper. Great video!

With high power air rifles, hearing protection is still appropriate. Sustained exposure to 90 decibels or more will affect hearing. The higher the decibel level, the quicker that effect becomes noticeable. While I haven't measured it, high speed, high power air rifles are subjectively louder than a 22LR, and we all know a 22 is deserving of ear protection.

Well, sure looks like they have some fairly rudimentary slug desings in 50 cal there. I'm shooting 22 cal Break Barrel and practice with Crossman Domed Ultra or Hollow points but hunt with JSB Hades Diabolo pellets. Though they're a couple grains heavier they fly the same and really expand. Rabbit control around the garden and all. I've shot and hit up to 60 yards target wise though my furthest bunny was at 40. With my Rifle setting the sights at 20 yards has the ballistic path hitting the same at 40 so it's just a matter of holding it right while pulling THE WORST TRIGGER. But in any case, a vast variety of pellets in .177 and 22 cal and larger. I did find a couple vids on Lehigh express 50 cal all copper fracturing slugs, they look pretty impressive. But looking forward to some Chrono testing a scope and some bullet drop videos. Gotta splat some clay too. Also, check for drop and speeds at full Bar and almost time to fill bar. I don't know if your rifle meters the air so you're shooting the exact same pressure each time regardless of the fill of your gun OR if it's a peek and dwindling. I know in England they have to regulate them to keep them under a set limit so I know it's possible, just don't know if it is on your gun. Exciting and new things to learn and your stringin me out like you get paid per video. Ahhhhhhh. Ok, I'll wait. Wish I had the money and time to learn it myself. Thanks Adam. Would still like to see that with a surpressor on it. Would love to hear the action slam forward and the Steel ring with little other noise. OH, they have shot cups too. You know you love to do those bird shot vids.

Back then they were not very powerful and wouldn't even brake the skin with jacket or jeans on (surprisingly we didn't shoot our eyes out.) I even hit a squirrel standing up in the belly and he didn't even run off, just look down at his stomach.

Ok you teased us now keep firing it. Over a chrono, clay blocks catch in water jugs get some distance. Lots of "work" to do.

Make sure you use a air rifle specific scope. Air guns have a different recoil impulse and will quickly destroy a scope intended for regular rifles.
@jeroen7699
@jeroen7699 2 жыл бұрын
That's only with spring piston air rifles, due to the weight of the spring and piston slamming forward when fired. PCP or pump air rifles have almost zero recoil. Maybe a little with this .50 cal, when shooting those arrows / bolts. For PCP you can use any rifle scope. For magnum springers they make stronger "springer rated" scopes.

Few questions because my family is looking into getting chickens and our biggest threats are foxes, coyotes, and fish cats. 1: can you load nitrogen in leu of compressed air?(hvac tech and we use nitrogen for everything). 2: what would you guys recommend outside of the arrows for ammo for said threats?(im definitely buying a couple dozen just want cheap ammo thats still effective at 100-140feet)

I still use ear protection with air guns because of the mechanical noise. It's close to your head so it's still loud on your ear closest to the rifle.

You should do a verses video 50 cal air gun vs 22LR clay block, and then do several videos with different calibers, progressively stepping it up, everyone would love it.

So it is lead? I shoot a .490 round ball out of my Muzzle loading rifle, that does include the patch. I use 188 grain Speer spruless round ball. And lots of .50 caliber conical rounds. Up to 500 grain.

Smart looking gun sort of looks like a triple over, over under 28 gauge! Wonder if anyone makes a triple over under in 28 or .410?Be too thick in 20 or 12 gauge I think and they have a triangular shape where they have 3 barrels.

I have a Benjamin Discovery .22 PCP rifle. I wonder if I could charge this one with my hand pump. It pumps my rifle to 2500 psi and it should go quite a bit higher. That way I wouldn't need a charge tank.

I have been checking out the PCP guns in all calibers they offer at Pyramid for the last few years. Prices are coming down. I am really surprised the ATF hasn't tried to regulate them. Some of the the big 50 Cal gun's are claiming 800 pounds of muzzle energy..

I enjoyed this presentation. My only concern is the ammo is not inserted into the actual end of the barrel but is loose in the larger breach cover and will impact the leading edge of the barrel before going down it, possibly deforming the slug's leading edge or shaking the gun. Can you, or could you or did you try sliding it full forward before closing the breach?
