Dave, nice one. Appreciate you explaining the logic of what is the safest decision given circumstances. As you say, if the failure happens during passage, to get home steer with engines… but to start a trip that way is asking for a bad outcome. Always enjoy your content!

Thanks, Brian much appreciated for the comment. And as an armchair quarterback, 1 could say I should’ve checked the steering before I left, which maybe I should have but very rarely is that an issue and we are in such a hurry to get out we overlooked it. I guess that’s what you get when there are two mechanics on board as opposed to me going through and doing my check as I normally do. came back in today on one of my charters and lost the reverse on my star transmission as I was coming around to get to the dock. Sadly, it’s like second nature and I use the steering wheel and one transmission spun the boat back around, redirected it, and got back to the dock without an issue..😂😂 always something.
