14:30 min mark...This happened to me and my mum ! I lost my brother [Scott] in 2008 and like Stephen I too can not bring myself to delete his contact details. Whilst waiting at the hospital once with my mum I stumbled across late brother's details so I cheekily said to mum "Let's ring Scotty !" and so we did. ( Bear in mind this took place about 6-7 years after brother's passing ). Ring, ring...ring, ring..."hello" ! OH ! wasn't expecting it to be answered so was already thrown. "Ummm, is Scott there please ?" I asked in all silliness with my mum laughing beside me. Well fuck me what happened next had all 3 of us, mum, me & the mystery caller, wetting our pants with laughter !! After asking for Scott, the response I got from the other end was ; "Speaking"...!! 👀 !!! 😂 Short story long, just a helluva coincidence in the end. We ALL had a good chuckle after we explained what we were doing and my 'new' brother Scott even invited us to stay if we were ever in town ❤ Long Live Dead Contacts 😅

Oddly enough, when they were talking of deleting (or not being able to delete a person on their contact list), I actually forgot that they reuse those phone numbers. My Mum passed away and I couldn't delete her contact number. One day when I was really sad and missing her, I sent that number a text to that effect. I got a reply from a very kind person letting me know that I have the wrong number. The reason the UK has two taps (not everywhere but in most older buildings) is because hot water was traditionally stored in a tank in the attic where it was at risk of gathering dirt (from insects, rats, mice, etc.) and was therefore suitable for washing but not for drinking and therefore couldn’t be mixed with the cold water. You’re not supposed to use the taps whilst running if you want pleasant warm water, you’re supposed to pour a bowl of it.

The reason we dont have mixer taps in England is because hot water comes mainly through a copper tank when being heated whereas cold water mainly comes through plastic pipes so is more fresh as it is drinking water..!
@TheUberjammer

To clarify, the above is meant to describe pre-brexit life. Obviously after Brexit, the hot water tank and tap were eliminated altogether and replaced by the heat from the decay of an iceberg lettuce.
@Pippis78

Our warm and cold water also come from separate pipes - doesn't stop leeding them into one tap. You can still get only (drinkable) cold water out of it.
@Padraigp
@Padraigp 11 ай бұрын
That's not the reason. Mixer taps also have two taps one nfor hot one for drinking water at least in the kitchen. But the middle tap part is shared so that you can have either hot or cold or both together to make warm or like warm or quite hot but not scalding hot. And most people have mixer taps these days right? Even irish people got those in the 1980s.

1:29:30 There are cases in which defendants have attempted to get out of criminal charges by claiming that their actions were the result of epileptic seizures. In People v. Grant, 360 N.E.2d 809 (Ill. App. 1977), the court held that the act of striiking a police officer was involuntary, but the defendant could be held responsible if it was found on remand that his drinking prior to the incident was reckless and caused the seizure.

I don’t think Obama was incorrect in saying that he was the 44 president sworn in. Grover Cleveland would have been sworn in both times, hence the point is not how many presidents America has had, more so how many times a president was sworn in.

The best thing about British humor is that it's the only country whose humor is so exclusive that if you're not British you'll never understand what anyone thinks is so funny. It's unique in that it's SO cultural, and doesn't rely on anything else but cultural knowledge, that it's only funny to people who know exactly what they're talking about. As opposed to, y'know, all the other humor in the world, that largely depends on basic human experiences and SOME language comprehension, although the best jokes don't even require you to understand the language.

Do I think British humor is funny when I DO get the reference? Yes, it's hilarious. But no other kind of humor relies ENTIRELY on you knowing, for example, what British person they're talking about, and everything the entire culture knows about that person, that no one outside of England has ever heard of. If you don't know the person, you don't get the joke, and literally EVERY British joke is like that.

Case in point: Douglas Adams. BRITISH GUY. Not one funny thing he ever said had anything to do with being British. It was in HOW HE SAID THINGS, it wasn't entirely about some obscure reference to a British royal's third-cousin's former roommate's boyfriend who's now a fourth-rate footballer who's famous in Britain for no reason anyone can figure out, or because he's the only Brit in half a century who spent a little of his "I'm rich and famous" money on decent enough dentistry to not be afraid to have their photo taken for an international publication.

lol what on Earth are you talking about? i'm Canadian and i love British humour. a majority of it is not cultural references. and anyways, every other country has some level of cultural reference in its humour.

Well that's very obviously not true. Go through the video again and sentence by sentence check the jokes and laughing and then put a tick in the column for non cultural reference and tick a column for cultural reference jokes and I think you will find you are very much mistaken. Unless you don't know what wine is or sleep is or an egg is and you consider those esoteric cultural references only british people know. Then look at any Spanish French American Italian comedian and you will also find they too refer to people and things in their cukture to the same average. You are mad by the way.

Rhod made a joke and everyone moved on, but the panel seemed very confused by the concept of 'forced air' heating. Is the term 'forced air' just a linguistic quirk, or do British homes really not ever have a central furnace?
@hendy70
@hendy70 Жыл бұрын
I don't think any British homes have forced air heating. It's very inefficient and impossible to control the various rooms in a building at different temperatures. They do have a central furnace for the hot water radiators which are controlled individually so each room is maintained at the desired temperature, when the heating is on, controlled by a master thermostat. The climate in radiator heated homes is also much more pleasant and lack of humidity is not a problem.

Pretty much but its warm air Many homes have their own vents that you can close to make it hotter colder than the rest of the house, as long as the door is closed
@cherylq709

Forced air heating is a Canadian or American thing. Many don't understand the very hot panelled radiators; these are heated by a gas boiler preferably with a thermostat control that enables the user to control the overall temperature emitted. Radiators do exactly what they're named for, radiate heat, so Kathryn is wrong that they don't warm a room; they do, but they also warm the brick walls which helps retain the warmth for longer. Forced air heat can disappear much faster once it's switched off; I've used forced air heat abroad and yes, it warms fast but it disappears equally as fast once turned off plus a room still feels cold after because the heat is rapidly lost.

@@cherylq709 You are correct: A central boiler heating only air is very inefficient: Plus the ducting needed to transfer the heat to individual rooms is a major loss of heat/energy. I had a such a house in the north of England many years ago: It was awful.... and only a small house at that: Noisy and inefficient: I installed a conventional boiler & radiators. Vastly superior. I now live in South America .... Very, VERY few houses have a hot water system of central heating. My House has no insulation: Solid Brick/concrete walls: Lovely and cool in our very long & hot summers as it keeps heat out and the interior cool:..... But the winters! It costs a fortune to keep warm. And we do not have "severe winters" (compared with Europe or North America.) (Except in the extreme south of course.) If I had my time again: I'd install radiators as per UK Standards: I'd be a lot warmer in my dotage!

On the subject of phone calls from the dead around 14:58. I made a terrible mistake in my depressed state after my late wife passed, I was very very very low and could not face the outside world, I had lost the love of my life, my soulmate, and had turned to drink. I just withdrew and my pay and go phone had run out of credit. I was not very tech savvy back then, and desperately needed to speak to my son, and without thinking used her phone!! The poor man nearly had a heart attack as his phone rung showing Mum calling! I was so so sorry I could not apologise enough and fell into an even deeper depression. Life really is a bitch sometimes, then you do stupid things and make it worse.
