@@j4f508 we divided bcoz we could not reach any agreement over the leadership of the caliphate. Supporters of what they call "divine dynastic succession" bcome Shia (meaning "group [of the supporters of Ali]") & supporters of popular succession bcame known as Sunnis (meaning "followers of Sunnah, the teachings of Muhammad"). Then there were no differences in practices between these two groups, both used the names as a certain political groups, not different religious sects, all came at least 50 yrs after the death of Prophet.

Wrong ...there are many more sects to come . .The prophet of islam already predicted that his ummah or people who worship allah, will split into 72 sects .. Till now only sunni ( barelevi , wahabbi movement , deobandi , all interpreting quran differently) , Shia ( have alawaites , Ismail, Khoja , bohra sects ). Sufi and Ahmediyya are mose similar to bhakti marg of hinduism ( including song and dance and supernatural practices like chilla and meditation ) , therefore they are heretical and considered bid'aat ( or unislamic ) .

"Macumba" isn't a religion, it's a pejorative term used to refer the religions "Umbanda" and "Candomblé" in Brazil. Wait what...we have ganapatism and smartism????!!!! When did that happen. I mean we worship different god based on to whom we resonate to most, there is no distinct differentiation except shaivism and vaishnavism has major followers, but still we can pray whoever we want. But i didn't know about these other names. Though different sects exist in hinduism, even one which doesn't believe in any god. Pretty interesting.
