I remember how there's a CG cutscene where an arrow gets shot at Sima Yi. It grazes his face and blood starts flowing from it. As far as I know, it's likely the only instance where blood is actually seen in a Dynasty Warriors game. Then again, I haven't played 4 through 6 much, so I could be wrong.

I honestly still believe part 3 was the best one. Didn't have to babysit all your allies (army getting beat by one private). Had bodyguards which was amazing. Cutscenes with whatever character you chose. Characters didn't look as if they came out of a Manga K-pop group

The only thing that makes it really hard for me to go back to is the fact you cannot change direction while in your combo. Whatever direction you attack you must stay in. There are lots of things I love about 3 but I think 5 did it a bit better.

They had some talent actually, Zhang Jiao, one of the most absurd voices is actually done by the same man who did psycho mantis in the English version of mgs1 which is well remembered. foreign directors is a classic pitfall for example: Troll 2. The awkward pausing and word choice is extremely similar to that film which is also regarded as being bad to the point of being hilarious.

I agree I feel the new ones are too easy imo and are a bit more follow this character and do this rather than just letting you fight the battle how you want while enemies are tough and can kill you. I also much prefer the character designs being more realistic and less over the top which I'm not saying I just prefer the older style.

There's actually a reason why playable officers show up in Musou Mode stages that take place after they died. The game keeps track of which Musou Modes you've already cleared. Clearing someone's Musou Mode causes them to show up in stages that take place after they would've died, but only in Musou Mode; the Free Mode version of any given stage is unaffected.

I love this game so much, really makes me feel nostalgic and realize how much I miss my childhood. I also appreciate how grounded the games were back then too, they felt like actual battles you were thrown into. The current games have way too much magic and the kill count after every battle is always in the thousands. Takes a lot of the realism out of it. That and the overpowered musous that just became way too gaudy. I remember being lucky to finish a match with 200 kills during DW3 and 4 era. It just gave it a gritty vibe.

_ANOTHER INTERESTING THING:_ Cai Mao (not sure if it's also in 3XL) uses the lower tier spear troop's move-set instead of the higher tier version. I'm not sure if it's restricted to a stage, but I noticed this on the "Surprise attack on Liu Biao" stage a long while back. This was also in DW4 where he used the low tier move-list. Although in DW4:E and newer installments, he then uses the higher tier move-list like every other generic officer. Similarly, Cao Pi in DW4 and DW4:E uses the same sword move-set as the "Strategists" (designations from DW4:E Archives Mode). Also, in the DW4 series, Cai Mao also uses the "Hero: Action 2" voice bank that is in contrast with his "Warrior" character model. There are also a few other generic officers in DW4 (and maybe DW5) who uses different voice banks that contrast their character model like Hua Xiong in DW4 who uses the "Warrior: Action 1" voice bank.

There's actually a third Musou Mode only stage, besides the Pirate Raid and the Mountain Bandit Campaign: Raid on the Rogue Fortress. It's in the Musou Mode for Wei Yan, Jiang Wei, and a few others, if memory serves.

I recently found Shi Huan in DW2 when modding, he has a private model there too. Catapult Chief is also another from DW2, he appears at Guan Du if Cao Cao's castle is besieged by catapults instead of the archers.

However, I only ever saw it once, and could never replicate it, so I assumed I had dreamt it. It's great to know that he exists after all. The one thing I remember about DW3 is never let your body guards defeat a general/pc, so I'd put them on defence stance while facing one, as that way you can hit them with a decent combo to get the highest attack/defence/life/musou. Also I remember to stay away from Lu Bu!, however it is possible to defeat him, using true musou, but have to be quick as its intense because until got true musou item, the only way to use it is when health critical, then at risk of being killed by Lu Bu!

That was kind of a turn-off for me as I grew up with the good voice actors that were present in DW5-8XL. I made a comment a year+ ago on a different video, but there was something unique about the older games that doesn't seem to be present in the newer games, but it's something that I enjoyed about DW3 that I could also do in 1 specific situation in DW5, and that is ai following you. In DW3, if you play as a character that is supposed to be on the map (example: Hu Lao gate as Lu Bu, etc.), then 1 or 2 squads of ai will follow you around. They will fight enemies if they aggro to them and will follow you afterwards. But what is REALLY cool is that with some characters, you can actually have an officer follow you around. I remember vividly as Sun Quan on one of the last campaign missions one of your officers will follow you. This doesn't always happen though with officers, but there is at least 1 grunt squad that will follow you if they can. In DW5, I found only 1 scenario where the ai would follow me and that was with Diao Chan as Lu bu at Hu Lao gate. I remember having to do something specific like stay in the room where you spawn, beat the officers, and I think move to where Diao Chan is or something. I know this cause I did it multiple times cause it was awesome. Especially since not only Diao Chan follows you around, but a LARGE squad follows you and her around as well. Like 20 or 30 units follow you around anywhere. No other character replicates this. Edit: Found the comment, it's on a video made by Blizzanity on the campaign of the Yellow Turban Rebellion as Xiahou Dun.

My fave thing about.dw 3 is that every normal cutscene has variations and dialogue for every character thanks to free mode. This can lead to characters foiling their own plans, taunting themselves, fourth wall shenanigans, and some amazing dialouge. Lubu : THIS IS STUPID. You... Go report!

Pretty sure characters appearing in anachronistic battles was them replacing officers when completing their Musou Modes. Guan Yu and Pang Tong replaced Ma Chou and Huang Zhong at Yiling respectively, for example. It was like that for a lot of characters and I don’t think there was a way to switch it back without a new save.

In DW3 XL there was an item “can’t remember name” that if equipped gave you the axe 🪓 double damage effect each time you were knocked down to the ground (at expense of lower defense) - When I played this glorious fun game back then I found that if you got knocked down which activates the item when your character stands up, quickly save and exit the game. When you reload the level you will have permanent double damage (and lower defense) for the rest of the level. This was particularly deadly when playing as Gan Ning 😈

This is some top-notch information! I never knew about the Limit Break Items, what a cool idea. I really like the idea of a combo system which encourages different move-variety, I wonder why they never tried to revisit that idea? A lot of DW3 is truly ahead of its time and the variable cutscenes was one of my favorite things about it, back in the day. I know it would require a massive amount of effort, but I would have loved to see more things like that. It also seems as if they were very careful with how they built their models so that they could easily use any officer for any event. It makes me wonder how difficult it would be to mod the game to make new characters, hmm...

The catapult chief is from dynasty warriors 2..battle of guan du yuan shaos forces.. If yuans Armee reaches Cao caos castle the fire with catapults in it you can stop that by killing the chief who is guarding the catapults.. He even drops a attack+2..its really unique in dw2.. Maybe it is some leftover from dw2

Thanks for making this video. Two things I'll add: 1. At the Battle At Guan Du on Cao Cao's side, you can tell which of the four compounds is the supply depot without ever having to guess. What you do is, go up to the wooden bars of each compound and peer through them. What you're looking for is these tall brown silos with cone-shaped roofs. If you don't see these, it's not the supply depot. see these, defeat the officer outside, the gate will open and you'll have found the supply depot. It works every single time. The silos are what your character sees in the "Go Tell Cao Cao" cutscene immediately afterward. 2. Also at the Battle At Guan Du, once you burn Yuan Shao's supply depot, wander around the depot after it's been burned and you'll eventually find some areas where the lighting changes and looks pale and strange. When you come to this pale strange light, go into Archer Mode and look up at the moon. You will see four moons touching eachother in a square/rhombus shape and it will rotate as you pan with the D-Pad. DISCLAIMER: This doesn't happen every time you play the level. I think for this to work, the supply depot has to be one of the two northern compounds, either the one guarded by Ju Shou or the one guarded by Yuan Xi and Xun Chen. I've had 2 different copies of DW3, both for the PS2, and this occurred on both of my copies, but I'm not sure about the XBOX version. Xtreme Legends version or other versions, so I cannot guarantee 100% that you'll encounter this glitch.

After DW5 the series went downhill imo. I loved just playing the characters i like and playing through their story instead of the regional story lines in the new entries. I loved the rank system and the stat grinding. getting the best weapons in game with the weird challenges to unlock them. Having fun side content and stories in the xtrme legends games that gave the characters some depth.Making your own character. Having ingame cutscenes for example if you co-op xingcai story and your player 2 picks guanping after he died in the story. You get a cutscene where they meet and have a reunion moment. All those nice things gone in all the next entries. The intro editor where i spend hours just messing around with all the different variations. So much the series lost just to make more characters. I would liike to have DW7 combat with all the gamemodes and systems and love DW5 got and it would be great. And i liked that your kill count had more meaning in the older games.

@@kobarariatna6129 I've been into the series since 3 and anyone who thinks that 3-5 is "better" than 8 is quite frankly, wrong. 3-5 is different and still very enjoyable but ignoring the sheer amount of content in 8 as well as the much, MUCH better combat is willful ignorance. I like the grind of 4 and I LOVE 5 empires, but the story of 7 and combat of 8 is objectively better than the older games. People simply have issues with nostalgia and preference so they're unable to enjoy changes when they're arguably necessary.

@@JelloFluoride DW8 is so easy even on hard compared to DW 3. Personally have more fun with DW3 as it actually provides a challenge. Really dont understand the appeal to that anime crap combat with attack reach affecting half the screen every 3 seconds, feels mindless

I got a couple mods on DW3, one of which allows me to pass through the gates where troops spawn, and you can roam outside the map. I’ve been finding out a number of interesting things! On Chang Ban, there is a mysterious box on the very corner of the map near Liu Bei’s navy, which contains nothing. Also, for some reason his navy has collision? Though the sails and supplies on the boat do not.

Dynasty Warriors 3 was the best one in the series, Was so fun on VS mode against your friends and your guards were badass in this game when you lvl them to maxed. And was a challenge going for xtreme legends hardest difficulty 5th weapons.
