While this is not a direct comparison, Gaomon asked me to review their latest tablet. I'm used to working on an Intuos Pro, so I requested that they send me an equivalent piece of kit, and I was shocked at the performance for the price tag.

My tablet is roughly 45 to 48usd depending on the exchange rate. Its not even a known brand but it works fine and you dont have to charge the pen.

Hiya, Thanks for the great review, I'm brand new to digital art, and I had one of these for Christmas after showing an interest in moving over from so called physical art, and I'm glad to know that any failures are down to me and not the tablet. Lol. Seriously though, it's good to know I've got a decent start in to the digital art world and I've subbed to watch and learn.

I remember just a few years ago (maybe 2010?) when the only graphic tablets that were really available were either Wacom or "shit". I remember before getting my wacom Intuos4 I had this absolutely awful Genius tablet.

You refer to the program as Sketchbook PRO I was curious about if there wasn't a pro version, and YES there is a free version for us beginners!

Agreed. I'm going to keep this one for that reason. It can be painful when your wacom breaks and you have to drop 3-400 bucks for a new one.

Hi Trent! First, I LOVE your work! I jump in to watch your videos the minute I see the notification and I always come away inspired and feeling artsy-fartsy. :D I bought GAOMON M106K drawing tablet after watching a bunch of review videos online, including yours, and I wholeheartedly agree with all your points. I wanted to get something that I could draw with without feeling like I was using a delicate flower. It is actually a very well constructed tablet and seems to hold its own. I almost use it like a workhorse but it stays solid even after I have used it almost carelessly. The software seems to crash on me a little too often but that could just be my computer. I drew 8 hours everyday with it for a whole month with just one full charge of the pen! I know, right? #TrueStory It blew my mind too! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and candor with us! We appreciate it!

I just wanna say ive had this tablet for over a year now and it works so well. Yes you have to charge the pen but i only charge it once every 3 weeks. The battery lasts forever and i use it 2-6 hours a day. I had a 50$ wacom tablet before and to be honest its not great compared to this because of its size and it just works so well. For a first tablet i def recommend it heck i like it so much i dont need another one lol ittl last me a long time

Dude how come you use it in Sketchbook? 'm not getting pressure sensitivity in Sketchbook nor in Krita. I've got an email from Gaomon that says it's incompatible with Sketchbook.

Hey man, how did you get the pressure sensitivity to work with sketchbook? I ended up buying this tablet thanks to this review but I was a little disappointed to find pressure sensitivity not working out of the box with sketchbook, and Autodesk supposedly don't support anything but Wacom which is obviously not true seeing as you have it working in this video.

The Cheshire Cat it worked on my Mac when I recorded this. If they stopped supporting it, I don’t know about it with new OS, or new updates,. Double check drivers are updated, and if that doesn’t work, contact their customer support.

@@TrentKaniuga Unfortunately it seems like if they did support it, it's either only on Mac or they dropped support entirely. It's cool though because I learned about Krita during this whole process which IMO is much nicer, so it all worked out in the end.

I'm in this weird situation where I have a perfectly good Wacom Intuos Pro Small but I have a huge monitor and would like a bigger tablet to go with it. Idk if this is like a good option for that? It seems like the cheapest large tablet there is, and decent quality

Holy god, I've been drawing on a Wacom Intuos CTH-480 for almost six years now. It's a tiny thing with 6x3.7 inch work space and a measly 4 shortcut buttons, which I use a LOT, and only has 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. It was easily over 100 bucks when I bought it new. Now I don't hate my lil intuos, it's been a great introduction to digital art and I've made some nice drawings with it, but JESUS CHRIST how is this GAOMON thing a TOTAL upgrade just for 50 bucks!? Was I just paying for the Wacom brand name!? I think I'm gonna switch tablets after all this time, my intuos is bound to break one day. So happy good deals like this exist😭

Wow, Trent! You must take Professor Scarface further! He's just so cool looking that now I need to hear the story that played out in your head as you painted him. So I have a question about that tablet. Did you try the buttons on the tablet? How responsive were they? Is it the kind of button that you need to break in (the more you use it, the better it works), or do they react pretty quickly? And what's up with that Artstation site in your description? Is that new? I don't remember seeing it before. Thanks for the review!

Hey R.A. the buttons are pretty solid. It felt like a ps4 controller button. They react very quickly... just as expected. I've been on artstation for quite some time. But yes, that's me.

I haven't tried the Huion 1060, only the smaller one. But they felt similar. The pens from both Huion and Gaomon are VERY similar. But Gaomon has a crazy good price that cant be beat.

Great video Trent :D Try to contact XP-Pen for more freebies, I'm sure they will send you something :D Their last tablets, the Deco series, are incredibly good for the price! 8k levels of pressure, paper like surfaces, no battery pen etc!

Kind of dumb way to charge the pen. Why couldn't they make it be charged by plugging into the tablet? That way, one would need only one cable.

There's that and there's also the fact that it makes me feel like I'm rockin' a racing glove. Cuts down on drag and everything. 'Course that whole sweaty, gross issue means I wear the glove for all art pieces, both traditional and digital

Pen heft is not a feature or a sign of quality, and it's a negative for people with carpal tunnel syndrome. If you want a heavy pen glue some fishing weights to it.
